Everyone seems to feel Anders = Alistair, but I saw Jowan. Not whiny, weak Jowan, but perhaps Jowan as he should have been. Stronger, light-hearted, rather emotional, quick, but not terribly deep. In fact, since I'd heard Jowan was once meant as a party-able character, Anders might be something of an outgrowth of him. (Anders has a killer voice, though - that's closer to Alistair) Anders seems like the fun friend who gets you in trouble, but is so lovable you don't mind. He seemed really young to me, especially after you get Nathaniel, who is all brooding, Victorian hero.
Anders also seems kind, very nice, but he never seemed very masculine. When I had Alistair in my party, I felt safe. He seemed masculine (which women on the whole seem to get) because he *didn't* need to lead, because he admitted his fears & weaknesses, and because he maintained his own loyalty & self despite his heritage. (whether he's 'kinged' or not) Anders just doesn't seem to have that much depth.

Suddenly, Anders wasn't interesting any more. He stopped being a person, and just became "that screwhead with the cat". I think when my Warden finally snaps under the pressure of running Amaranthine, that cat will go first.

Yes, I adore the mage-houdini. For starters, he's a cat person. +100 approval right there. My mage and he are best pals, and strangely, have the same outlook on life, the Chantry, and the Circle.
I hope he returns in the future and is romancable. My two cats, however, believe Ser Pounce-a-Lot should be romancable. They are both fan girls, and everytime they hear that _meow_ their little ears spaz.
Yes, I do adore Anders. he also takes some of the edge off of not having Alistair or Zevran around.

My dog used to bark at video game dogs, & growled at monsters. I'm so sad that he's not here to attack the mabari! He would have loved it.

You know how Anders says he uses the cat to get women? (or that he attracts women - I think it's his response to Oghren's observation.) There's something to learn there. Sweet to small animals? Points!

Heh, my cats hate Shrieks. Surprisingly, they pay no attention to Ash Wraiths.... The dog only pays attention when the Mabari start growling.

This, fellows. You want to turn women into putty around you? Lovin up little furry critters will get you there. Petting, coddling, baby talking cute little animals. It's kryptonite to the female species.

Er... This strikes me as meaningful.BLunted wrote...
He annoyed me. I dropped him as soon as I got Valenna, because she annoyed me less. Overall, the only companion I actually liked was Oghren.

I'm with your cat there!!! I hate those things. I cannot hit 'mute' fast enough when they appear!

I even started Awakening with orlesian mage to flirt with Anders and not being worried about cheating on Alistair. Now I want DLC with romance option with the mage and I'm ready to pay a lot for this

Yeah, me too. The one companion who loves you, regardless of what you do. I just cannot see why I don't have my mabari anymore. It's not that I always brought him along, but just having him was... comforting.Valentia X wrote...

Love him. And love Sir Pounce-a-lot. If you don't love the cute widdle kittie you have no heart.
I love Ser Pounce a Lot but I was deeply saddened by the fact that he doesn't turn into an attack cat. I think I miss my mabari more than is healthy.
And Anders... he's funny at times. I don't mind having him around, but he's not special like Zevran, Sten, or in fact any of the old companions. Except Oghren, whose funny wears off rather quickly. And guess which old companion we're stuck with *gah* <_<
Edit:
As for the masculinity of Alistair... I don't know. I always found Sten to be the most masculine of the bunch. Not because of his size. Sten also takes orders, but does seem to have more of an own mind than (unhardened) Alistair. Oghren is "perceived manliness up to eleven", which kind of makes him a douche. Zevran is extremely masculine as well, in a different way, but still counts. Alistair pre-hardening is kind of a wussy though. More of a best friend than a lover to me. After hardening him, he's a lot better, I'll grant him that. But up until his hardening? Not really that masculine. YMMV of course. I just think both Sten and Zevran are manlier men

How could I not? Strong sense of humor, converses with and keeps cats, practical, decent person (I don't fault him for going up against the templars, played enough mages myself to know how they are treated for not being a Chantry drone), good looking, great banter with other party members.

This kind of put a damper on him for me, as well, though he doesn't react to it as strongly as Wynne at least. My blood mage still likes him in a kid-brother kind of way. I appreciate that they put in mage-specific responses to many of the dialogues.Ceridraen wrote...
I loved that he was a rebel against the Circle. However, I was twitching when he agreed with Wynne about reining the mages back in. My mage was ready to go to war (given that I had freed them for my boon, which was ignored...) - and he's Wynne-ing? Humph! I want my rebels to REBEL, & not worry about possible outcomes.
Nathaniel and Sigrun are my favorites, however. I might find Anders more appealing if I'd made him an arcane warrior so he doesn't have to wear the ridiculous mage robes. Oghren has Nathaniel's number, though. That moody earnest thing... hot hot.
Edit: Nathaniel really seems to like her, too. Maybe she should have mentioned that her husband is an assassin. LOL

I don't know, I think Anders can totally rock the Keeper Robes and the Architect's Robes. Also, the Thane helmet.

We need more comedic mage types in Thedas. I myself always try to get my characters to contribute to them. Death the the chantry and their cruel Templars.

I made Anders an awesome AW with the reaper vestements and some gloves and boots from the Amaranthine Merchants. Even gave him my mages precious spellweaver...so i could have VIGILANCE!
