I'd also like to see shore leave while docked, does not have to be anything complex, an example would be while you walk past one of the shops with the 2 squadmates in tow you see other squadmates browsing the shops or sitting in the cafe, this applies to both squad and crew, I'm sure grunt would really enjoy browsing the souvenir shop.
I'm on board with the whole squad/crew banter.
A suggestion for Bioware to add some atmosphere and team spirit on the Normandy in ME3

Absoluuuutely. I can't even say how much this is needed. I'd love to see characters having conversations without Shepard. I'd also like to see characters just move around. Make me look for them. EDI can always play informant if it's that random. ["Garrus is in the armory."]
In addition, I'd like to see Shepard's cabin have more of a purpose other then armor changing, feeding fish, and love interest cuddles. It always felt like a chore to go up there, espiecially when there's nothing else up there. Give Shepard a reason to go up there. Maybe party members have issues to bring to Shepard's attention. Love interests have their romance subplots trigger there. Or any on-board cut scene even.
The Normandy should feel alive, is the bottom statement. There were huge improvements in ME2 [NPC characters talking, ect], but it could still go further.

Yeah, the cabin always seemed pretty useless... I ended up making myself check all my new messages there (and also saying hello to my hamster) so I'd feel like it had *some* use.
At least it was more useful than the captain's cabin in ME1!

This should be a priority (NPC interaction in general). And please not just in forced cut-scenes but during actual fluent gameplay.

We are the Harbinger of your Perfection.
We will bring your species into harmony with our own.
We are the beginning, you will be the end.
We return, and you... will rise.

I'm totally for this as well. I don't think it would be that hard to do. And let's face it it would certainly make the ship and crew feel more real and less like scripted programs.

Would be cool to like, walk into a room and see Miranda and Garrus talking about a mission or something....or maybe Tali and Legion having a civilized debate, and you just talk to both of them as you visit.

This is a good idea. It really creates the atmosphere.
But we must understand that we are on a military ship.
They do not have to constantly spend time in conversation, should engage in job.
If we will walk around the ship and to constantly will see what everything with each other talking then will be the atmosphere that we just went for a walk with friends.
The greatest threat looming over all. They should not talk about philosophy and new mods, they should worry about their loved ones, those for whom they are fighting.
Necessary that all be focused on the goal, because it seemed to me in Mass Effect 2 fight with the Reapers, was in the background, but the main thing was to help henchmen solve their personal problems.
Yes, we well have knew them, but in Mass Effect 3 this is no place, there's only one goal, and this the Reapers.
Only incredible efforts can stop the onslaught of the Reapers. It should be not only efforts by individual heroes, BioWare have to show that everyone willing to fight. Everyone must be ready to sacrifice their lives for the sake of victory. Without sacrifice there is no victory.

But the Normandy SR-2 is not a military ship, and Shepard is technically no longer either a Spectre or an Alliance soldier. This is a civilian ship - a bleeding-edge, ultra-powered, deadly ship, but a civilian one all the same. Civilians - even gun-toting assassins, former soldiers, and biotics - like to let their hair down.
I remember early on having a conversation with Jacob where one of Shepard's responses is that the ship needs a lounge. I agree wholeheartedly. And one of my favorite "get to know the crew" scenes is the ice brandy toast with Dr. Chakwas.
There are some great ideas on this thread for making characters more interactive and the ship more dynamic. The one thing I will say that ME2 has over Dragon Age when it comes to character interactions however is body language. I love that my Shep can hug Tali when her father dies, or take Thane's hands when she's feeling romantic - Dragon Age characters aren't coded to show such interactions.
Keep the great ideas flowing!

I fully support:
(1) Squadmembers interacting with each other
(2) A dynamic ship where crew members walk around, or change location based on your progress through the story (same with the hub worlds)
(3) A day-night cycle.
I also have another idea: meal-time with the crew/squad.

If they spend more time talking to each other than that means they're spending less time talking to my Shepard! Darn it, my Shepard is the center of their Universes! Without me they would be 'nothing'! Thus they shouldn't bother talking or shagging with anyone but me! /sarcasm

While this is good and all, my main concern is that it might breed exposition. Sure its nice to see the people on the Normandy meshing with each other, but what does Miranda's selection of Nail polish or a 3-minute long clip of Thane sitting on a Chair, brooding, really add to the game?

I dont know. What good does my hard-earned and sweaty 60 bucks does for the COMPANY?
On topic, I approve. I'm not fan of the game but it couldn't kill if we had some cutscenes like that tavern discussion we had on NWN2:
Or even Romance related like this scene with Bishop pwning Casavir:
More party banter and npc interaction would be great.

how about a ship sports day or karaoke that would be funny to see garrus or mordin singing whilst drunk.

If we end up keeping most of our ME2 squad in ME3 then a lot of their backstory and idle conversation with Shepard would already have been explored, so I say it sounds like a really good idea to have more roup conversations where we watch the Normandy crew all develop their own friendships and rivalries with one another. A battlestar galactica-esque tabletop gambling scene would be my favourite thing in the world.

Another vote for NPC interaction.
For example, I picked up Dragon Age recently and from what I played so far ( which hasn't been too terribly much), I tend to always pick Morrigan to be in my party. Not based on her abilities or powers, but strictly for the incredibly entertaining dialogue she has with the other party members. I'd rather sacrifice gameplay for interesting character insight, which is why I rarely choose the dog.
p.s.- Didn't mean to interject DA:O into this ME2 conversation, but it was fitting. Especially when that side dialogue creates hints for NPC storylines.

This Just In: Bioware have been indoctrinated by the rEApers! haha, I'm so funny and original!

Honestly, as nice of an idea as this sounds, it would make their locations unreliable and means that those cinematic moments/posing would be less unique.(Walls being in different places, seats not there, etc.) I'd personally rather they stay on their own on the Normandy(With the exception of some scripted events) and we get conversations while walking around hub worlds.

One thing that might be able to accommodate those that wish not to have to hunt down a roaming npc on the Normandy is to have the option to hail them to the bridge or captains quarters to have a conversation with them.

Yes Yes Yes and yes and also BRING RICHARD ARMITAGE ( voice actor in the trailor for me3 IN AS A VOICE ACTOR ( he is awsomness after spooks ( im english ) and yes that would be epic as id want to see legion + tali in a game of cards and jack and mirander having a topical debate.
On a serious note +1 from me

Bioware or, Shepard's fellows ?
Bad jokes aside,... with little effort someone can imagine that, after a mission [let's say A1] (and related with a given character/s), there's a little reunion with some of the squad mates (e.g. because we have saved Garrus mom and because Tali send flowers to Garrus mom every year, so there's something common to talk about
As I posted in ME3 wishlist thread,.. While chatting with them, and depending on your renegade/paragon points, that very conversation could be a trigger for a second mission (related with the first one - renegade points over X: then sub-mission A1b, paragon points over X: sub-mission A1c, not enough points: sub-mission: A1a, etc...)
It's a little example but could be a chat key related with the main plot or something, you never know (sometimes from the simple things more complex ones arise) hehe (and finally one have to destroy the florist
