Seriously I spent a whole week going "wow BioWare's really had me by the short hairs the last several years this must be an awesome thing coming".

Son, you have much to learn about the reality of the world out there, and stuff like hype and marketing, and how it messes with your emotions and judgement.

I mean... c'mon a WHOLE week? What are you, the most easily influenced and impressionable person on the community?

Rule of life: People put countdown timers for the sake of building up suspense. The timer says absolutely nothing about what comes at the end of the timer, that's the WHOLE point. More often than not a countdown timer leads to something anti climatic.

Or a rocket blasting off into space. Whatever, still anti-climatic.

I don't really care about this event either way.

Having said that I doubt EA/Bioware will lose sleep over you pulling your stock, so you could've kept that to yourself. It's as if you mentioned that solely to give your random complaint thread, which is typical of this board, a new spin or angle.

Assuming you are even telling the truth. Which, let's be real here, isn't likely. You sold your stock because a company is trying to market their product in a way that annoys you.....despite the fact that marketing helps raise profits, which could make their stock more valuable.

Yeah, that makes sense.

As far as being a sell-out and deciding to buy game merchandise, I'll be honest with you, ME2 is the first game that EVER made me want to buy merchandise. I've played WoW since 2004, they're TOTAL sell-outs, and they can go to hell.

But for some reason...BioWare...*swoon*

So I turned on my computer and loaded up the Bioware social forums. When I saw the countdown and I was like "No way! This is going to be epic! The title even says so!". So I sit here waiting for the countdown to end and the epic community mashfest to come. When the countdown timer hits 0 and the thing starts I was mildly impressed with the marketing advances they were making and ingenious usage of twitter! I click on the terms and conditions since Bioware, my rightful master, told me to and hey guess what, I'M NOT PART OF THE COMMUNITY! I told my mom and she got scared and she said "you're moving with your auntie and uncle in bel-air". I whistled for a cab and when it got near the license plate said "non-com" and had a troll hangin' on the mirror. If anything I thought this cab was rare but I thought nah, forget it, yo holmes to bel-fail!

....

I agree wholeheartedly. I saw the countdown, but didn't think too much about it until today, about 1.5 hours before it was done (because I had other things to worry about). However, this morning, I had to work, so I missed the site crash (which is whole different fail), but throughout the day I became more and more stoked to see what the EPIC thing was.

So i checked at around 5:30 pm ET. I got a Bazaar. I couldn't have cared any less about anything, I don't care about winning crap, I don't care about tweeting.

Bioware said epic community event. that tends to increase the hype behind anything. It also increases the backlash if said epic community event turns out to not be epic or for the (whole) community.

lol I knew it wasn't going to be a game announcement. If it was exclusively on the ME website I would think maybe their announcing something HUGE.

But it was on both ME and DA so....

Yeah it was a let down. It was something they could have just announced normally. However, I'm a sucker for the chance to win free crap.

It is epic, you can win some cool stuff. It's not epic to me personally because I don't care about the contest. I'm not going to sit here and bad mouth it though just because I have no interest in it. If there is "backlash" over something as trivial as this people really need to examine their priorities in life.

EA is made of FAILURE. I blame this epic fail on them, completely. Bioware isn't stupid. I can't say the same for EA.

It was anti climatic to say the least.

And then I find out I can't even participate in it, felt like a kick in the nuts.

I like the idea but I'm not sold on the execution. All this is going to do is prompt people to spam forums with their referral link.

First of all, I do have time for Bioware and
this forum, my dear (and responding to you of course). But that does not mean
that I would like to waste them on things that I consider not worthy. I love
Bioware, no mistake about that. But for Bioware (or EA for that matter) to hype
us up on thing as none essential as this, in my opinion is just a waste of my
time. ;)

Some guys are overreacting. But it was surely disappointing and somehow I would like to participate. God, I want a N7 hoody so much, but it would get so expensive to import. Some guys here will get it for free you know. Yes, I'm envy...

Please see my other response to Jaysonie.

P.S. Even responding to you, my friend, is more worthy of my time, in my opinion. So you can see, I'm setting my standard pretty low.

i don't understand the emotional investment people have in these companies. did you really feel sad because it didn't live up to your baseless expectations? i don't know whether to pity or deride.

I agree, this "auction" community event thing is somewhat disappointing... but it is better than nothing.

Not true. As an Australian, this competition IS nothing. Actually it's worse than nothing, because here I was thinking Bioware was pulling something cool out of their collective hats.

People put emotional investments in the most trivial of things. Take the ME2 game for instance. Fundamentally it's a piece of entertainment software, and some people blow it up to be the most epic thing that has ever been written onto a DVD, and thereby subject to standards of utmost perfection, including but not limited to headgear toggle features.

And then when they get disappointed, it's a reaction like Vader's "noooo" in EpIII

It had better be Mass Effect 3, Dragon Age 2, full fledged controllable sexual intercourse with all potential love interests as a patch, or the RETURN OF CHRIST HIMSELF related.

Okay this made me laugh.

And I agree with the other stuff, well not the stock stuff, but the countdown being unepic.
