Bioware Bazaar: April Fools?

It has been but a few hours since since the unveiling of the Bioware Bazaar, and it has been followed by a community uproar the likes of which I have only seen once before in my lifetime. Over 100 pages worth of ranting and spamming, and the pure stupidity of this event makes me wonder if this is supposed to be some kind of joke.
Think about it: April Fools Day is just two days from now. I get the feeling they anticpated this reaction, that they are, in fact, preparing the real announcement for April 1st, as pat of their joke. Simply paranoia? Wishful thinking, perhaps? The whole idea behind this auction is ridiculous, the trivial merchandise, the community restrictions, the epic fail countdown...
The perfect failure. Too perfect, from where I'm standing.
Thoughts?

All of this epic rage and delicious tears has me at the seams.

I even think the site crashing when the clock stopped was part of the joke.

April fools offers a great chance for damage control.
Saying that this is an April Fool's Day prank would backfire if people think they're lying about it to cut their losses ( and it's likely that people wouldn't believe them if they really did make the claim on April 1st).
In response to the OP, I don't think this was meant as a 4 day April Fool's Day joke. It's gone way beyond the parameters of being a joke.

It may not be a joke, but it's the funniest thing to happen 'round these parts in... well, in ever.

I agree. What they did is so aggregiously absurd that you can't help but laugh.

I think there are just too many annoying factors that were so obviously going to make the community go ballistic and they are just basically stupid things too. Even if you hate EA and think Bioware has it's daft moments - they just aren't that dumb. The timing is right for an April Fool's prank. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that there will be a launch of something proper on Friday 2nd April and the 'tokens' will get turned into Bioware Points.
I even think the site crashing when the clock stopped was part of the joke.
My point exactly. The utter stupidity of this whole thing makes me seriously woner how they couldn't have anticipated this reaction. And just a couple of days before April Fools... Perfect fail. Perfect timing.

So yes, it's Biowares fault. They could at least have said at the very beginning "sorry folks, this is only relevant to those in the USA".

So it's Bioware's fault people got over excited about a community event? Since when have forum community events ever been something to be foaming at the mouth about? Meh I guess I just don't care enough to even notice it. I most likely wouldn't have participated even if it was "good".
Usually when I see a countdown timer on a video game developer website, it is usually leading up to releasing some new info on an upcoming or unannounced game. When they have online events like this, it usually just requires a forum post on their main forums for anyone interested.
IMHO, Bioware handled this poorly.
Edit: And the thing that bothered me the most was my expections were already low due to Bioware's current track record for DLC/Expansions. But this went below even that. If this is indeed a joke, Bioware has some very dry humor.

The problem Bigeyez is that they built it up into this big event, themselves calling it "epic" and including a countdown on their websites and then pull out a big steaming pile of ****.

Meh I can understand that the reason why Europeans (everybody else) are upset I guess. They do have a pretty valid reason for feeling letdown. I personally just don't care enough about it to get worked up, but I see where some people are coming from. A little notice about it not being applicable to people overseas would have been nice. I'm not really sure if that justifies all the ranting though, but whatever.
@ camirish1 Some clarification on Bioware's part before the event was launched probably could have stopped a lot of the ranting we're seeing now, so yeah I pretty much agree with you. I still think people are carrying it a bit too far (but hey it's the internet people do that to everything), but some communication from BW could have stemmed the tides of rage a bit.

Does anyone else think Bioware is on a mission to ****** off as many fans as possible? First we have moronic comments like "planet scanning is strangely addictive" and now they pull this stunt that leaves me speechless as to how poorly thought-out (if it even was) and executed it was.
not to mention all of dragon age awakenings...
