Wait, what's Bioware Bazaar? Is it another Cerberus Network?

so.. lemme get this straight? Bioware provides these forums for everyone to talk/ect about their games at zero cost to you, which i might add having this type of forum(or any at all) is not mandetory. And then they decide to make a fun little countdown on the site, leading up to an event for the community.

How did they do -anything- wrong? it's not like they taunted you with rumours and such about a new game, expansion or anything else. They gave you a countdown timer, you chose to get excited about nothing. You chose to throw hissy fits when the suprise event wasn't what you wanted/expected.

Yeah.. Bioware are real evil people, for shame on them for having a little fun on their own forums. For shame on them for not giving the entilists something shiny to make up for waiting the whole three days, waiting on every tick of the counter.

"Epic Community Event" indeed...

It has been but a few hours since since the unveiling of the Bioware Bazaar, and it has been followed by a community uproar the likes of which I have only seen once before in my lifetime. Over 100 pages worth of ranting and spamming, and the pure stupidity of this event makes me wonder if this is supposed to be some kind of joke.

It just goes to show the community consists of extremely volatile and temperamental people. Either that or they really really buy into hype very easily.

You could probably convince half of them to buy magic beans if you gave them a countdown timer and told them the beans will magically grow when the timer hits zero :o

They gave a count-down to a community event.  I really don't see how or why anybody would be "eagerly waiting" for a week for the revealing of something as stupid as a community event.

Well the count down timer, was indeed a tease and rumor about an epic community event. If someone gave you a box with a count down timer, I bet you would get kind of excited.
It is not the fault of fans for getting excited over a timer, that was the intent.

If it is an April Fools joke it's severely lacking in humour.

A corporation wants to make money. How is this surprising? It's annoying yes but I'm not angry about it. EA's in the hole and they're trying to claw their way out. The only thing that is beyond me is why does it not include Canada bioware's a Canadian dev.  Why exclude your own country from something as useless as this? It makes no sense. I can do it but I don't see the point. Yay I can get more stuff that will be meh at best.

'Never said it was a good joke... but if it is in fact a joke, as I proposed, then it all depends on the "real" announcment on April 1st, assuming there is one.

If a friend gave me a box, for free, and said i couldn't open it until midnight.. i'd probably say okay and leave it there until midnight and get to it in the morning.  And then i see that what's inside isn't something big and fancy but something the friend gave to me with the intention of doing something nice for me.

I'd smile, thank the friend and be happy that i got something for free.  I wouldn't **** and complain to my friend that i was expecting something fancy.  If i was that immature to get into a pissy mood because a mystery gift wasn't what i was wanting, i'd expect my friend to slap me and storm off.

Seriously.. no one has any right to get indignant about the event.  Bioware has given us something that incurred zero cost to us, it did not require us to sign up early to anything.  It required absolutely NOTHING from the community.  I mean, are people getting that much of an entitlement complex that they believe they need to be rewarded with something big and shiny because they went about their day to day life as they waited for a countdown timer to reach zero?

So...Bioware should be thought of as a friend who is only holding this event out of the kindness of his heart? =]

My God! When you put it that way, I realize what a bad friend I have been!

There's a difference between getting excited and getting overhyped by marketing gimmicks like the use of hyperboles like "epic" or rumours and hearsay...

If the fans can't be blamed for getting excited then I don't think you can blame Bioware either for the marketing tactic. It's the norm in marketing, it's how people do things to market stuff. There's no clause saying it's unethical to exaggerate something, etc.

Bioware is a company. Doing what any company would've done in it's situation. Oh sure maybe other companies may not have had a timer, thye could instead have a teaser poster, or a vague announcement hinting at smething upcoming, etc. Same effect.

I don't know anymore. I just get the feeling people just need someone to blame so as to vent their enormous amounts of unhappiness from a countdown timer on a video game website...

Heh, i used friend because that's probably the best fitting term for the description that i was presented with.  I mean.. who in their right mind would take a box with a countdown from a complete stranger, let alone keep it until the timer runs down? >.>;

I couldn't agree more.  No one forced anybody to get -that- excited over the countdown that they'd froth at the mouth when it wasn't a shiny new toy to play with.

People just get suckered so very easily. Why else do you think there's an entire industry out there built on advertising/marketing? ;)

Isn't that a criteria for being a fan anyway? something like "you're not a true fan until you voice your opinion loudly on even the most mundane of things to show that you care even for the smallest of details"

It's supposed to be an unspoken rule that most fans agree on but do not admit outright...

Hey guys, an interesting point was made in the other forum (unless both he and I are missing something):

TheGreyGhost119 wrote...

How are they supposed to know it's my twitter for the
bazaar?

I don't remember ever putting down my twitter on my profile or anything, and I
can't find a spot to do it now.  And since my twitter and my bioware
account are on two different emails, I don't see how they could check it that
way either...

I'm really confused about this.  Anyone want to shed some light on this?

Anyone have an answer to this?

I think the whole situation can be summed up by the future president of Earth, Richard Nixon...

"computers might be twice as fast as they were in 1973, but your average voter is as drunk and stupid as ever..."
