Let's all share what our teams were, and why you picked them!
First playthrough:
Import manshep Vanguard, paragon path. Vanguard was marketed in ME1 as the primary damage per second class. Didn't really hold over to ME2, they really just got charge, which in a cover shooter is neat but suicide to no good end.
Miranda- because she's a beast. Full damage to shields, barriers, health and armor, crowd control from slam and overall team player.
Thane: Warp and sniper riflles. And he just looks damn cool.
Mordin: incinerate, great for armor, SMGs compensated for shields when needed. Didn't think about cryo blast til too late.
Second playthrough:
Default femshep Biotic. Huge warp abilities, curving warps around corners or lobbing them a mile away is a blast. Squad warp ammo, as warp does full damage to nearly everything.
Miranda- bad habit, but she just seems like the "upper"-most tier character.
Garrus- concussive shot effective against armor and health, overload great for shields and synthetics. Fun to set him at a distance and have him pick off people from where they can't touch him. Great dps
Also often sub Garrus out for Grunt, but haven't been so impressed with him lately..
Who was on your team!

Tali and Zaaed, purely to keep the tradition of having Tali and a badass merc in my squad. lol

Garrus and Grunt. Grunt to tank and take heat off my back. Garrus to provide both ranged support and anti-shield. I wanted to continue my tradition of having pure combat and pure tech to round up my adept, but the cooldown for Combat Drone was too long and hence I could not access Energy Drain. She had to go.

Garrus and Zaeed. So...much...weapon damage...

Since Solider Shepard is pretty much a walking a tank, my team usually consist of a support group (a biotic and/or tech specialist.) I usually have Tali/Mordin or Jack/Miranda/Samara on my team. Other times, I bring Grunt and Garrus/Zaeed for guerilla warfare.

Aye same. In ME1 Tali's AI Hacking with Liara's Singularity would nicely control an entire pack of Geth for me. But in ME2 I usually roll with Garrus and Samara against the collectors. Concusive shot from me and Garrus and Throw from Samara makes short work of any group of Collectors silly enough to stand near the edge of their spinning platforms

I've only played on insanity difficulty, and found out that biotics and tech abilities are pretty much useless on insanity. Zaeed, Garrus, Thane and Legion is the way to go since they can stand farther away with their sniper rifles.

You think Tech skills are useless in Insanity? Really?
Or, to put it another way, you aren't using the talents in an effective manner, and this is why it seems like they don't deliver. (And the same applies for Biotics of course)

Garrus and Samara.
Garrus for long-range fights, and because he's awesome.
Samara for powerful biotics since I'm a soldier and have next to nothing in that area of expertise. And because I love her character.

its interesting to see all the different setups.
As for me I constantly rotate my squad, mainly just to see what they all have to say during the mission!

My first playthrough I stayed with Tali and Garrus to keep the ME1ness going (like I suspect many did).
For Insanity (with me as a Sentinel) I went with Miranda and Thane. 3 Warps do some pretty serious damage

First playthrough, constantly Garrus and Tali when I got her. Though I did switch it up for loyalty missions.
Insanity playthrough, Garrus and Tali. I thought it would end up hurting me in the long run. But, they didn't make it any harder or easier.

My very first playthrough on ME2, I think I always took Miranda and Jacob. Only because I was totally clueless. Never played the game before. But, after hanging out here and getting an education and watching the video's, that has changed.
I still keep Miranda. But, more often than not, I take Zaeed. After I get Mordin and Garrus, I turn around and do Zaeed's loyalty mission so I can get his Infernal Grenade. I will switch him out for Garrus or Grunt.
P.S. I hate Husks!

1st Playthrough -
Started from scratch with a custom Sentinel manShep simply to see if Tech Armor is indeed as awesome as everyone said (it really is..!) in terms of squad;
Garrus (90% of the time) simply out of tradition, and on account of him being superawesome
Mordin despite him being a tech. user as well my main
Legion (for the final mission) because he's a GETH
2nd Playthrough -
Imported manShep from first game, originally a sentinel but changed to Engineer to try out their tech. capabilities. Also wanted to play through having Wrex not being killed in the first one (it's annoying that by default he's gone). For my squad;
Miranda (90% of the time) for her awesome biotic and combat skills
Garrus (90% of the time again) out of tradition
Thane (occasionally) because the Drell are easily one of the coolest races in the ME universe
Mordin (occasionally) because people who talk fast = hilarious.

I tried all the characters, but I usually had Garrus and Kaiden, or Garrus and Wrex for ME1. For ME2, I tried all the characters, but used mostly Miranda and Garrus, or Jacob and Grunt to change a bit. But for the suicide mission of Mass Effect 2, the two people that always accompany me are Legion and Miranda.

I split up all of my team members into pairs and rotated them through each mission.
Miranda and Jacob
Garrus and Tali
Grunt and Thane
Jack and Mordin
Legion and Samara/Zaeed

At the end was Samara and Miranda purely to burn through any armor or biotic barrier I might stumbled upon.

Usually had the teams switched up so no one would get lonely!
My classic ME1 team was Wrex and Tali, becuz she could get through the tech stuff. . . and then we'd just shotgun the place into all oblivion.
The preferred group of ME2 is Garrus and Tali, cuz they're your homies.

Tali and Thane, mostly because I liked the characters, but Thane for the damage output and Tali for the tech skills. I was an adept.
