Sorry, you are using a wrong term for what you are getting. It has no video "CARD" at all, so it could never play this game smoothly, only jerkily, fuzzily, and coarsely. Sorry.

Very basic discussion* of video cards, video chips, PhysX, and even of laptops' limits:

If you could have held out until after New Year's, there was supposed to have beeen new "Fusion" mobile systems coming then. (Edited in): We can expect to see what the Mobile Fusion products will look like at CES {Consumer Electronics Show} 2011, which opens on January 6th in Las Vegas.  Until mid-December, it had been my understanding that products would actually be shipping by about that time.  Failure for Global to solve their own 32 nm wafer process threw the APUs late, same as TMSC's similar problems had done last fall for the GPUs.

P. S. The current expectations put the shipping date closer to the end of February, 2011.  Intel's Sandy Bridge CPUs are being previewed this week, and the mobile versions (of the integrated graphics) are being compared to the ATI HD 4200 and 4250, and it's supposed to be better than those.  According to Anand Tech's reviewer, one of the Sandy Bridge laptops was even able to run Mass Effect 2 as well as the Mobile HD 5450, which surprises me, given the disparity in shader processors.

Gorath, did you see my question above about the ATI Tray Tools? Still trying to figure out how to add the settings for GPU Temp. Thanks.

Sorry. The only game-capable machine not loaned out has a Geforce in it, but I don't recall there having been any particular difficulty setting it up any time I've done so (it doesn't work with my Geforce 9800 GT).

Okay, thanks. I'll just play around with it then.

I will be adding the AMD Radeon HD 6n00 cards to the list "pretty soon now" (the two we've had available for several weeks now, at least), but I think I've identified a trend of people upgrading now, who may find the rankings useful, even without those two being included.

P. S.  Always keep in mind the way to be sure you are getting the highest frame rates for the least cost per frame, is via the montlhy Toms hardware "Bang for the Buck" articles.

Will be looking forward to that. Gives casual gamers like me a nice and easy list to refer to when I need to upgrade next time (hopefully not for some time). Many thanks in advance.

CES 2011 seems to have really stirred up the crew of writers at Anand Tech, and if they are right, the show this year is particularly significant.  Everyone with an interest in what mobile computing is going to be doing should visit there & see what they are writing about.  The things that struck me as most important were the nVIDIA developments of the ARM processor, and Microsoft's endorsement, saying that there would be a Windows for ARM.

The masters for these rankings have never included any of the various Geforce 6200s, which were terrible when new (they cost maybe $5 to make, and could be bought in bundles of ten for $150 by the time TES4: Oblivion was released.

To shop for graphics most logically, go here, and then choose a price point:

There has been no change anywhere in the last nine days to vault a chipset video chip into the ranks of acceptable gaming hardware.

We have a new arrival bypassing Raen's "Read First" advisory while claiming to have both a high end graphics solution and being forced to put up with small textures (shouldn't happen). We'll see.

After reading all this I guess my ati radeon 9250 won't get the job done. But perhaps somebdy could confirm that?

It wasn't very good when brand new, about eight years ago, so no, it's not gotten a bit better. It was a follow-on to the 9200, which was a down-notch from a 9000, and all three were part of the Dx8 generation that the 8500 had been first into for ATI, about ten years ago.

There isn't anything older than five years old you should consider, and there is nothing older than seven years old that can have any hope of running this game.

If the reply was overkill, sorry about that.

The lists themselves have gotten out of date because no benchmarks have been available on games of a similar nature since Toms Hardware stopped using DA:O as one of its favored games for testing, a year ago.  Maybe they will start using Skyrim soon, which will be comparable in the sense of shader processing loads.  I haven't added either the majority of AMD's HD 6n00s, nor nVIDIA's Geforce GTS / GTX 5n0 cards (most of the GT cards are no longer gamer quality, and do not belong in the list now).

I also want to add the graphics segments of the AMD Fusion processors.  If anyone among our readers knows of any comprehensive benchmarking using either Bethesda's or Bioware's games, and I missed finding it, by all mean, give me your heads up notice.

This is an appropriate time to discuss upcoming releases of both the Radeon HD 7n00 cards (January) and the unlocked Llano APUs now available.  Among the latter are several in the same class as the Radeon HD 5570 and HD 6570 cards, which can be used in games, as long as the buyers understand what they are getting are BUDGET model cards that are neither fully into the Gaming class, nor are they just "plain business" cards any more.

Following several years of absolute minimalism compared to the Geforce competition, which allowed much lower price points through most of the Radeon line, by eliminating all seldom-used features and functions (such as supporting OpenGL), the top single core GPU, the HD 7970, will be nearly as complex and complicated as nVIDIA's GTX 580, somewhat faster than the 580, and roughly as noisy as the (loud) 580 is.

Here is a long and comprehensive review of the Radeon HD 7970:
