I used to take the elevator purposely, even when I could have travelled faster, just to hear the conversations. (well ok, maybe to stare at certain squadmates' body parts close up for a bit...who are you to judge me!!!!)

I do as well, they should have replaced it with DA style party banter or something.
I've always thought that sort of thing really helped develop characters and their relationships with one another. After all Shepard isn't the only other member of the crew they'd interact with.
Like I said earlier in the thread, an ideal solution might be to let party members "wander" around the Normandy. So every time you came back you'd have a chance to see Garrus talking with Zaeed or what have you.
They could even acknowledge that you're eavesdropping and end the event with something like:
Garrus: "I still don't think that Bounty Hunting is any more noble than petty crime. The people who hire you are usually worse than the people they send you after anyway. Shepard, what do you think?"

No, I play on my good old fashioned human-made PC and they aren't as bad as some people make it out to be.Baskervore wrote...

Exactly. I would like more of that kind of banter in missions or hubs. Spontaneously, without having a designated landmark to click on to hear only one character talk.

Too bad moments like those were as common as a needle in the haystack because of repeating news reports. The squad chatter officially started dying out after recruiting Liara when you barely had any side missions done.

No, not really. There were certain members you could take to certain places and the elevator chat would get down right funny. I experienced quite a bit all the way up to hitting Ilos. Ah, the good old days.Lunatic LK47 wrote...

But now its; "Ah yes, Elevator chat", we have dismissed this as obsolete.

I think my favorite one was when Wrex asked Garrus who'd come out on top if he and Shepard fought.
Ah, Wrex. How I miss your dialogue contributions.
Bro*Force, aka team talk **** to each other at every opportunity, always had the best conversations.
Also interesting the Garrus went from "Turian" to "Kid" over the course of the game.

We know Garrus does, but what about you?
I didn't miss them on my first playthrough - since characters DO frequently talk (and to eachother) during conversations.
But when I did my second playthrough and realized that even bringing two completely different characters caused them to say the same thing to each other in 90% of situations... I did start missing the elevator conversations.
I really would have liked to hear ANYONE besides myself talk to Thane, just to give an example, so we could hear every companion's perspective on death.
it would have been better if they randomly conversed as you explored like in dragon age

I loved Ostagar. It really impressed an atmosphere of great activity and business, the way soldiers were walking around, conversations were firing off left and right, messengers were running back and forth - you just really felt like a lot was going on and you were right in the middle of it.
My dream Normandy would be this way, with the characters moving around and talking to each other, starting conversations like the ones we miss from the elevators.

Elevators return with unique elevator-only dialogue specific to each combination of squadmates, with Shepard interjecting a few times.
Random dialogue around the hub worlds, much like DAO.
And that would make me a happy panda.
ME1 elevators I didn't mind. ME2 load screens? I do mind.
