a. The sword used is a ridiculous "Disney" Arab sword, not a Scimitar.
b. The swordsman is acting incredibly stupid. If the scene was realistic, he would charge him without waiting around.
Yeah, I realize that it was meant as humour, but I've always found Indiana Jones films to be exceedingly boring.

Melee is overpowered enough in this game even without special weapons.

Actually there was supposed to be a big sword fight but alot of the crew were sick including Ford, so they just said screw it and just made Ford shoot him.gauntz wrote...

Now as for the topic, i dont think any kind of sword would work, but i think would be cool if u could get an armor piece that puts spikes on ur elbow, or like a knife lookin thing to stab as u melee. That would work without actually puttin a sword/bat into the game. Just a thought..

I don't want a melee weapon unless it's powered by mass effect. Some sort of energy field that just rips enemies apart, or that creates a massless field to allow you to swing it harder would do nicely.
The concept is sound enough. In modern times soldiers often carry knifes/baynoets(just incase), though to be honest our "modern" armour isn't strong enough for a US marine to perform a "krogan charge".
Now, ME universe is different. Heavy armour is bulky, but offers extreme protection. Also, the use of kinetic barriers to stop projectiles is common place. Krogan with shotguns kinda show this, with a slow advance, using thier armour to protect them. It stands to reason that in certain cases in the ME universe "melee" weapons are preferable... assassinations maybe? Why bring down a kinetic barrier when you can just stab a guy in the back?
The issue is will this be common for front line soldiers? Probibly not, but Shepard isn't a common soldier. Some kind of weapon would make sense, perhaps a wrist mounted blade(energy enhanced or mass effected) or something similar to Kasumi's that he can use to melee. I don't think he needs a WH40K Space Marine chainsword/hammer or anything of that manner. Something that we can relate too, believably. Krogan, on the other hand, would be interesting if they used some manner of melee weapons in addition to thier shotguns.
