Another idea would be to have some sort of "color code" for each class. I had thought of using the three main colors (red, yellow, blue) for each of the "pure" classes (soldier, engineer, adept) and mix those colors (purple, orange, green) for the "hybrid" classes (vanguard, infiltrator, sentinel).
I would only use these colors on the stripes of the patterns, as they would get quite gaudy otherwise. And for the infiltrator, well, orange isn't very stealthy, so I'd have a sort of a "formal" orange-striped suit for non-combat areas like citadel Zakera ward, and its regular "battle suit" would change patterns depending on the environment his mission is in (I mentioned that in a previous post, and am currently applying it
)
This is a good foundation for a colour scheme. Soldiers get Red, Adepts blue and Engineers yellow/orange. A hybrid gets a combination of two.
Unfortunately I can't really see my Vanguard Shepard having a purple stripe on his arm, so I always go with Green. But you definitely have the basis for a guideline.
I read about a decent Cerberus colour scheme on these forums. After replaying ME1 recently, I'm disgusted with Cerberus so I'll never show any sense of loyalty to them, but some people might like it. I'll admit, it looks cool.
