It is worth it but it is not as polished as Awakenings, there are some bugs and other issues. But overall it is good and enjoyable. The length is good IMO it lasted me 23 hours, and I paid $50 bucks for it (In Australia where full-length games are atleast $100). The only really bad things about he game are two pretty heavy bugs, one in 'a city' and one that occurs in 'a mine'.

Awakening is good game. Not as good as the original DAO but worth the price and good fun.

There are some software bugs and story continuity glitches but you can live with those.

It's definitely worth picking up. It has it's flaws; chiefly bugs, weaker character interaction, and poor balancing but otherwise it's a fun addition to DAO. Whether or not it's worth the price to you really depends on how much you plan on replaying. Even if you play it once I still think it's worth the money.

As of right now, no. The potential is there, but it needs to be reworked into an actual expansion, go through at least one major bug overhaul, and a bit of spit and polish.

I'd really like to know your definition of "expansion". I've been getting and playing game expansions since Doom, and Awakening is worth getting that name, IMO.

Anyways, I agree on the bug hunting.

I would say to wait until the price decreases a little bit, or at least they fix the bugs that infect the game. The game itself is good, since it just and extension of what DAO is. If you loved DAO and played enough of the original story, it's worth getting, but I would still wait until they fix the bugs.

As long as you know what you're getting into, I would say yes. I enjoyed it a whole lot, and thought it was absolutely worth it. However, I knew going into it that it would be shorter and feature less interaction with companions than Origins. Also, I've heard a lot of stories about bugs, but I only ever came across one or two, and they were very minor and didn't impact my playthrough at all.

Yes, but buy it online if you can (to save money) and don't expect to be wowed by it, as you may have been by Origins.  It's a solid enough game, and it only costs as much as a cheap night out, but could (and arguably should) have been better.

It needed more Dragons and Bosses, but it was still a pretty great game. Being starved for RPGs there is really nothing else competing with it. Unless you consider ChocoFro 13 an RPG, I consider it a linear action game.

God...no,save your money or rant and rave for not reading the pre-release of what the expansion was and is.Frankly crybabies will always find some reason to whine and yet will not ponder all that went into creating said expansion...boo hoo for them!

I am liking the expansion a lot. It has very nice ideas (conversations in specific points, more customization...) and I treat it as a possible "experiment" that may lead to amazing fully developed results in a sequel .

Sure, it lacks some of the awesome things of the original campaign but it compensates with some of the best developed chararcters I have seen in a while (Sigrun is simply amazing).

And on the other hand let´s be sincere; you put your money in Bioware´s account and that means better resources and more possibilities of getting great professionals for a breathtaking Dragon Age 2.

Not so nice note? Well, I am experiencing a horrible ton of bugs but that´s something we known that developers are currently working on.

exactly my champion. It is waht you make it.I bought it with eyes open and no expectations of some grandious expansion.I'll wait for the next major release for that. I like what I got and am happy with it dispite some flaws,it's better than nothing at all.Posted Image

Let´s think for a second in pure terms of plot: Awakening leaves a loooooot of untied knots; and that is ALWAYS good plotwise.

Quickly rushed off response: (EDIT: Okay, so it ended up kind of long)

Is it worth getting? In my opinion: yes, absolutely. Especially if you're familiar with the negativity here on the boards. I held off for ages (because it is rather expensive on the Xbox and everyone here was saying it was awful) but finally bit the bullet a couple of days ago. And my overwhelming opinion after one playthrough? It was great: I think I actually had more pure, straight up fun with Awakening and its characters than I did in Origins -- and I absolutely adored Origins. I mean, by all means wait for a price drop, but definitely pick it up at some point.

Is it perfect? Of course not. There are some technical issues (on my playthrough I noticed party members' approval jumping to 100% instantly, items duplicating in stores, and it seems like the "Nightmare" difficulty has either been nerfed or level scaling has been reduced -- I didn't get any injuries to any party members, and I wasn't playing very cautiously) but, yeah, I can't really bring myself to care that much when I had such a blast playing.

One thing that really stuck out for me was that the level design seemed very much improved. Additionally, the main quests were -- individually -- pretty much perfect in length. Not once did I reach the point (as I did in each main quest of Origins) where I thought: "Okay, this has gone on far too long, I want to advance the plot already!" The only thing I would say is that, in terms of pacing, I think it could have maybe done with just one more main quest on top of those we were given.

And I don't know why people who liked the writing in the main game have been slamming it this time around: it's just as good as in Origins. I'd actually go as far to say that it's improved, in some respects -- and I think the new dialogue system is a step in the right direction. If DA2 goes with something similiar (but MOAR), I'll be one happy camper. For one thing, I loved that the party members (and what GREAT party members!) were approaching ME to talk, and that we were discussing things *while on our adventures*.

Now, sure, maybe after I've done a few more playthroughs  with different characters (and by gum, I will) I'll suddenly see why so many people have been hating on it. At the minute, though? Yeah... I'm surprised by how happy I am with the product... and many of the things I'd heard about that that I thought were going to really annoy me really didn't.

So... uh... that's my 2p.

AND BRYON HOWE GETS MENTIONED, YAY! (Dunno why I'm such a fanboy of his. Just liked him)

I´d rather have a combo of my companions talking to me and my main character asking them about this or that, kind of Sten´s "I´d like to ask you about something you mentioned".

I got it for 45 bucks and I"m satisfied with it. Its a great game and its launch price being about 40 bucks for 10-16 hours of play (I beat it in 13 hours 36 minutes) when in comparison with most games that are 60 or 70 bucks and have the same amount or significantly less gameplay it makes Awakening a good purchase to make. BTW I cant wait for DA2.

I find it comical when people attempt to justify EA ripping the community off with the over the top price tag of Awakenings by stating that other companies are doing it.A rip off is a rip off regardless of entity behind it...Fred's highway robbery isn't validated because Jim did the same thing last week.

That being said,I purchased Awakenings earlier today for 20 bucks via EA store and that nifty promotional code.Needless to say I don't feel ripped off as would have been the case if I payed $40 for a 10-15 hour expansion (well that's what they're calling it).

Just finished my origin, and loved my DW rogue and can't wait to learn what would happen to morrigan. It's a shame that awakening didn't pick up where origin left off....

Still considering if it's worth it....

Its worth picking up once they fix up the bugs, I'm still waiting for patch 1.03a or 1.03b or 1.04 before installing it. Kind of worried that it will screw up my origins once I install it in.

So, there has been an official dev statement on this forum that Awakening *IS* getting patched. They're working on it.

So, I'll buy the expansion when the patch is out, and posters confirm that it fixes more than it breaks. If you have doubts, I recommend you do the same.

I was slowly writing off this expansion altogether. Glad the devs gave us an update.

Myself I played Awakening (and enjoyed a lot) but first few hours of play has been disturbed by some troubles, like not support all DLC items (but that's not a bug and will probablt not be patched), one crash but none after have remove all mods, 3rd specialization point not got, and few more. After to have clean by removing and disabling almost all but ROT and SP, and solved problems with some mods I played through with no hassle but still get the 100% approval from one companion.

It was a great and intense play but clearly wait a patch is the thing to do. One quote it's a very different game than DAO, only the fights stay the same and the general system are the same but other than that the gameplay is hugely different.

I wouldn't rush to get the awakening expansion. The contents are decent, but not good enough to be worth getting at this very moment due the bugs and glitches. Wait until Bioware release a patch before getting it. The price might even drop during the wait.

Yes, it is good

The companion lacks a bit of depth and complexity (compared to the original one)

So Ogren fells much more of a pain (again compared to Origin) and you do not keep your approval rating do not start where you have left it.

Two handed weapons and dual wielding is much better that the original.

As well it is possible to respec, as well according to how you go about the game and the type of char you have. It is quite easy to end up with two mages

All that combined gives a easier to complete felling than Origin

bugwise

Did not have a problem with game other than running the install as administrator
