There's still bitter feelings, but the sentiment is very valid. Bioware or even EA during the planning stages would have had more then ample time and oppertunity to be or become aware that certain aspects of the contest or other nations legalities would comprimise the event. I don't see any company creating a social event in the intrest of it's community being poorly planned or executed. It just doesn't happen.

I think what it really boiled down to for Bioware is they spent the time, resources and genuine intrest in giving back to the community that they decided it would be better to possibly ****** people off and hope they don't over react, as opposed to stoping or halting the event altogether.

it doesn't happen please come back to reality

Fine, if you disagree at least name an event a game company has done to give back to it's fans where it went as sideways on them as Biowares did.

How about uhh... Everyone. Seriously, read the TOS of EVERY CONTEST YOU ENTER! Guarantee you there are either excluded states, excluded countries, or both. God I honestly think this is the first time you guys have read the TOS for a contest.

I think you fail to see that we would not have been that angry had we been told from the beginning of the countdown of the epic community event that the event was only for the American (minus 2) community - THAT was the problem. But you see the announcement to an "epic community event" and as you feel part of this community you start looking forward to it - only to find out in the legal fineprint that you cannot participate.

It's not really about being ineligible to enter, it's about getting our hopes high because of (failed) marketing and being given the feeling that we're not part of the community. An epic community event that only includes half of the community is not an epic community event ...

But now there is an apology and the promise to make things right ... if they keep this promise, everything's fine again.

I'm gonna spell it for you, ok?

Sadly something the up and coming generation is lacking as evident by their posts in this forum.
They'd rather group up in a mob and scream at the top of their lungs rather than think rationally.

Christ, some of you people are unbelievable. So, DESPITE the fact that Ray and Greg came out, apologized, and basically said what both myself and many others have been saying, that Bioware *will* go to great lengths to make it up to those left out of the initial Bazaar, you people are still NOT satisfied, and are still going to gripe and moan over what is, at this point, spilled Milk.

The Doctor's admitted it was a gross oversight, and they are doing whatever they can to remedy that mistake. In point of fact fixing all of this was something they didn't even *have* to do, they could have very well said, "Oh, sorry folks, better luck next time." But, no, they've basically said they will put in extra funds and resources that they didn't have to use to make it up to those who felt Jaded over this whole Contest. It never ceases to amaze me how people can never be satisfied no matter how far others may go to make 'em happy.

Chris Rock once made a lude joke about how you could have Sex with a woman using a Diamond Penis, make her climax one hundred times, and the Woman would *Still* complain. "Why did you make me climax so hard?!" or "That Diamond Penis looks cheap!" And that whole joke, though kinda gross, works as a perfect analaogy for you frakking people. A couple of months from now, when you people who are going on and on about how you didn't get what you want acutally *get* what you want, since that was in Greg and Ray's new plan all along, I hope that if you're *Still* complaining Karma comes along and takes a huge bite out of your backside!

(Breath)

On a more positive note, I'd like to thank the Doctors and everyone at Bioware for not only the Bazaar and giving the loyal fans a great opportunity to pick up some nice Swag and others items, but for those working so hard to keep the Ball rolling on the Anniversary Celebration.

Thanks Bioware. Image IPB

Id say the overwhelming feeling is that we accept their apology and are awaiting there next action. A few people have rightly pointed out that it is suprising for a global corporation to be caught out by "last minute legal problems"

They could have headed all of this off at the pass with an earlier apology or even a request to wait for a statement, but still it is nice to see an apology at all

But hey you got to use your chris rock joke, so well done ;)

Keep in mind, *Global Corporation*. When you have a Company that spans two Countires and covers a global market while being coupled with a Billion Dollar Global Publisher it's easy for one or two miscommunicated memos to cause a **** storm of problems. When that happens, if the guys at the top are out of loop for whatever reason (they've been attending a crap load of meetings in relation to GDC, or they've been in development meetings, etc) when a error like this finally is brought to thier attention, they can't just snap thier fingers to fix it. They have to invesitage all the legal ramifacations, who was responsible, etc.

They can't just drop an Apology day one, not until they understand exactly what it it that they're apologizing for. The fact that they're now trying to fix it to keep everyone happy means alot. My problem is that despite the fact that you believe that mostly everyone accepts the apology, it really does *not* seem that way. That's what burns me. I can only hope that, in the days ahead, as we get more and more clarification on what new plans are in the pipeline, the rational people will be content if they weren't already, and those sad YOBs who just enjoy being miserable will be weeded out, there-by leaving room for the people who are genuinely appreciative and want to participate in future contests.

Oh, and yes. I'm rather happy I was able to use that joke as a reference. It's old as hell, and I'm surprised I even recalled it. Good timing.

lets face it these things always come down to legal issues when you spread comps over national borders. i can only imagine the bioware guys suddenly had the rug pulled out from under them over this grand comp/giveaway by the legal team who in my experience have to proof everything before completion.

Any normal business would have done all that before even letting us know about anything...its called...good business practice...

And lets face it guys, Ray may still be co-founder of Bioware, and still be a director of Bioware Corp...but he is now more importantly...employed by EA...

A reminder to please keep insults and personal attacks off the forums.

I'm glad people are taking Ray & Greg's apology to heart and it was sincere and it is genuine. I know there will always be people out there who say "well I doubt it was last minute complications" (people still doubt the moon landing, the power of bacon as a cure-all, my ability to jump tall buildings in a single bound, etc) but I would suggest that if they weren't last minute complications, do you really think we'd have excluded Canada? Where we are? Really?

Anyways, moving on now. Time for an apology from me as well. The BioWare Bazaar IS a cool event and, if we had been able to get it working as we intended, potentially Epic. Yes, not nearly enough people are able to be part of it (see Ray & Greg's apology), but the event is cool. Where I went wrong is in how we marketed it to you and for that I apologize. We used the word "Epic" before we had proven that it was. Sorry. We also used the Countdown timer to generate interest. In hindsight, this allowed rampant speculation which caused disappointment. Again, sorry. While I won't promise we will never use a timer like it again, I can promise we will make sure that such a timer is worthy of the interest it will attract.

So, for those who are taking part in the BioWare Bazaar, thanks for your interest. We are having a great response and people are having fun with it. And for those who cannot be part of the BioWare Bazaar, my apologies as well. As Ray & Greg indicated, we do have more events coming this year to celebrate our 15th Anniversary, including the one specifically for those who were excluded from the Bazaar.  We do greatly value our Community. All of it, no matter where you are from and we're going to prove it.

So how about it? Group hug?

Well, at least they took the time to come up with a semi-believable fairy tale (referring to the original apology from the "big" guys).
But I know I am not the only one asking myself:
Would a professional company holding a global contest not have checked into legal issues before even initiating the timer?

It is certainly an enjoyable spectacle to watch, everyone screaming first and crawl back on hands and knees after.

Please, continue :)

Interpret that however you wish..you're going to anyway. I don't think its time to dwell on it any further, they offered up the reasoning, and a personal apology. Time to move from that back to gaming..where we started from in the first place.

If you can't find it in your heart to accept someone's apology..well that is definitely your prerogative.

Is this the first contest you've entered?

From EA and or Bioware yes. I think you and Tony are failing to read between the lines.

What lines? You're the one who obviously failed to read between the lines of 99% of the contests you've entered. The fact is different countries and states have different laws and you can't make all of them happy. Holy **** next you'll be mad you must be 18 or older to enter.

And you clearly have never been involved in any planning steps for a social event done by any company or corporation.

Thank you for your announcement.

Apologies accepted. Flags below will be removed, and any past frustration waived with them.

I am glad Bioware seems to be back as the company I've used to grow fond of throughout the years.

A Bioware fan.

PS : Just to be crystal clear about this whole mess : as far as I am concerned, it wasn't about the contest prices, but about getting a chance, as a community member, to participate in a community event if I WANT (or at least not feel injustly discriminated against because I couldn't).

Talk about a really bad bad PR schnafu on this one ><

Anyway, good luck to our american community members who can participate in the contest this time, and best wishes to all the DA / ME teams :)

Depending on who you talk to, Maviarab, there were different groups with different goals.  Some wanted an apology, some wanted free stuff, some wanted to be included, etc etc.  Me, all I wanted was an acknowledgment that there was an issue.  By the looks of the the responses, it seems that a portion of the people wanted the same thing.

And I prefer to be a happy clam than a camper.  Image IPB

My problem (and I believe Maviarab's although I don't want to put words into mouths) is that the apology isn't sincere at all.   had they just cme out and said something like "Hey, we messed up so we will do some stuff for other regions, sorry about that" I would accept that as real, but pulling this "last minute legal troubles" crap is just insulting.  Last minute?  Really?   Any moron with an IQ over 75 knows that ach countries laws are different, so don't try to tell us that EA and Bioware were totally unaware of this and nobody thought to check it until six days before release, and THEN nobody thought to maybe change the tag line of the announcement?  What bugs me more is that sheeple are buying that crap.  What is wrong with admitting a mistake instead f shoveling more **** on top of your pile?

So yeah, thanks for at least acknowledging the mistake bunt don't ****ing lie to us about it.

Group hug?

Damn you Priestly and your devilish puppy-dog eyes, how can I stay mad at you...?
