A reminder to please keep insults and personal attacks off the forums.

I'm glad people are taking Ray & Greg's apology to heart and it was sincere and it is genuine. I know there will always be people out there who say "well I doubt it was last minute complications" (people still doubt the moon landing, the power of bacon as a cure-all, my ability to jump tall buildings in a single bound, etc) but I would suggest that if they weren't last minute complications, do you really think we'd have excluded Canada? Where we are? Really?

Anyways, moving on now. Time for an apology from me as well. The BioWare Bazaar IS a cool event and, if we had been able to get it working as we intended, potentially Epic. Yes, not nearly enough people are able to be part of it (see Ray & Greg's apology), but the event is cool. Where I went wrong is in how we marketed it to you and for that I apologize. We used the word "Epic" before we had proven that it was. Sorry. We also used the Countdown timer to generate interest. In hindsight, this allowed rampant speculation which caused disappointment. Again, sorry. While I won't promise we will never use a timer like it again, I can promise we will make sure that such a timer is worthy of the interest it will attract.

So, for those who are taking part in the BioWare Bazaar, thanks for your interest. We are having a great response and people are having fun with it. And for those who cannot be part of the BioWare Bazaar, my apologies as well. As Ray & Greg indicated, we do have more events coming this year to celebrate our 15th Anniversary, including the one specifically for those who were excluded from the Bazaar.  We do greatly value our Community. All of it, no matter where you are from and we're going to prove it.

So how about it? Group hug?

Aww, you big lug. How could we stay mad at you? C'm'ere!

Oh, it's group hug time?  I missed it

Okay, just to be nice *hugs*  (Plus the sig will revert to my Liaramancer sig pretty soon... once I can remember where I found it .)

It's is an amature mistake to make for a company with the legal help  that EA does (ofcourse the fools did send out brass knuckles to people)

This smells of, ohhhh they were upset, we better do some damage control.

I reckon that there still wont be no rest of the world. Maybe UK and New York and Florida will get some chance, but i reckon there more obscure parts of the community will see  nothing.

The sad thing is, people wouldnt be up on the barricades if it wasnt for the count down.

Just announce a game to give us peace!

Well, that at least kept me from sending a nasty snail mail letter. Saved me the cost of a stamp. LOL.

I'm sure the guys and gals at Bioware were facing a bit of "shock and awe" at the level of response we gave them.

Good work everyone. Now we sit back and, ah, wait.

Hi everyone -

The BioWare Bazaar was launched this week as the start of a year-long celebration around BioWare’s 15th anniversary.

We recognize that BioWare has a global community, and the Bazaar this week was originally intended to be an international event to reflect our truly global fanbase. Unfortunately, we encountered some last-minute legal complications around how contests can be structured in different parts of the world that prevented us from including all territories in this first event, even though that was our original goal.  And for that, we sincerely apologize – our goal with this sort of celebration is to show all our fans worldwide how much we appreciate your support!

BioWare definitely really values all members of our world-wide Community, no matter where you live.  Accordingly, in the coming weeks, we will be announcing details about future events specifically for fans living in those territories which were excluded from participating in the first BioWare Bazaar.  The future events will be a bit different from the first Bazaar in how they’re set up and structured, but our goal is to feature the same caliber of awesome prizes and great BioWare collectibles.  We’ll announce more details in the coming weeks :)

The reception from those fans who have been able to take part in this first event has been incredible – thank you for participating! - and we’re looking forward to future events where we can enable fans from additional territories to also join in the fun.

Thank you all for your continued and ongoing support and participation in the BioWare Community – we really appreciate all your support over the past 15 years, and the future will be even brighter!

Sincerely,

Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk
Co-founders, BioWare

It's all good. No need to apologize.
For all my being upset at the way this event was organized and announced, I remain convinced that, were it not for EA, this would not have happened.
*wistful smile*
So if you ever do need saving from them, please say so and I (the hopeless idealist) believe that the gamers will stand behind you guys and do all that is possible to help.

                               ***

And to EA Games, I address this:

The reason you wanted BioWare, in the first place, is because of what they did – so LET THEM DO IT, on their terms, and stop bringing shame upon their good name, you bunch of narrow-minded civilians.

And with that apology, that you, at EA Games, should have issued (and that I accept as coming from you), I’ll take a romance pack, a cheeseburger and a medium glass of milk.

Thank you.Image IPB

I never really judge any one by a single act as people can make an error every now and again but it is refreshing to see this response so promptly when it could have been just as easy to say nothing at let it roll on.

I suppose I,m saying this mainly because i was part of a community forum before where the community manager would not respond at all despite a great outcry over issues in one of there games which went on and on and we heard...

" Zero from them "

Bioware has restored my faith just by responding to community concerns over a topic which was important to people.

Thats it thanks again Bioware

I'm happy to wake up to see that there has been some kind of responses from the higher up's, one containing an apology, which was pretty much all I wished for.  I'm still a bit skeptical that this could've been a last-minute issue (how can a huge global company like EA or Bioware not have known that complications would arise from the magnitude of such an event covering so many countries and states?).
However, you guys do have one good thing going in your favor, it's the quality of the games you've given us over the last years, and, I'm confident of that, will keep giving us in the years to come.
Thank you for the announcement, and I'll be looking forward to these future events.

All right, thanks BioWare! How 'last minute' were these legal hassles? Quick communication or postponing the Bazaar could have saved you quite some trouble.

It's good to know that you're going to solve the problem :-)

Bioware, thanks for letting us know. It's really good to know that we were not intentionally left out from the beginning, and that we will get our chance in the future.

I just wish they had made this announcement immediately on Monday morning (when they opened the Bazaar).

All right.

I suspected from the start that this was some kind of accident, and consequently found it hilarious as an "epic" public relations disaster rather than annoying because I couldn't take part. I'm not interested in that kind of game anyway. Nonetheless I thought an apology was in order. I have it. Thank you.

I still think calling the event "epic" is hyperbole. But it seems there's more coming. We'll see.

Damn some of you are easily pleased....your all pitch forks and torches...and then one simple, very generic, very scripted, and very hollow and empty post later which probably took ohhhhh all of 3 minutes to post....

and your all happy little campers again lmao.....jesus christ.....

When you believe in people, it's easy to accept an apology -- particularely when you believe that someone else than the one making the apology is at fault.

Over a long period of time, people have come to appreciate the guys/girls at Bioware. They are a bit part of everyone's family, and so yes, it's easy to make "happy little campers" out of us because we believe in them.

This apology means to many that BioWare is NOT EA Games -- After the slight, that's all many of us wanted to be reassured about, or needed to be reminded of.

Now as for EA Games... that's another story. Image IPB

We could not expect more from BW, not like they could give us free stuff (no sarcasm). And due to this was an apology not from some moderator, but directly from dr. Ray Muzyka thus its works for me.

Remember how MW2 forums went on fire and they didnt get any respond. Here top of the staff went to apologize for this event and thus I think they DO value our fanatical loyalty to BioWare.

Can't say that now I feel like nothing happened, but conflict resolved for me and I take away my signature ("before I was...").

I appreciate the apologies from Ray, Greg & especially Chris. Time will tell if things actually get better, but it's good to see the community (as a whole) is acknowledged.

I'm also very proud of the whole banner signature movement. I think it was a wonderful way to bring forth our concerns and in many ways it reaffirmed my personal attachment to this community. Thank you to all the people who contributed to that! Much better than rampant forum aggression, IMO.

I appreciate the response, although this all could've been avoided if they explained the situation on the same day as the start of the event. But hey, kudos for not ignoring a large part of the community after all. :)

Dear Bioware,

That you encountered "last minute" legal trouble in (say) Thailand and Hungary, I can understand.  But the WHOLE DAMN WORLD - all at once - except the US?  NO.  Not last minute.

You are a BIG corporation.  You know the drill.  Nothing 'international' before tax and legal guys look at it, and memo the all clear.  I mean, kids studying chemistry would think - "international lottery (type)? =  legal minefield!"

When you do run into legal issues "unexpectedly", TAKE DOWN THE TIMER.  Replace it with a message that there will be a 'fun announcement' for SOME US fans on XX/XX/2010 (or words to that effect).  Or say that the timer will be back in XX weeks but relates to some prizes on offer.

When you do run into legal issues that exclude the entire planet except for PART of one country, IMMEDIATELY search for the word "epic" on your site and REPLACE.

If you must have the timer, then POST AN EXPLANATION to the non US community when it reaches zero.  Don't leave it as an afterthought when the rant thread reaches 50 pages in 8 hours.

Fire your legal advisers.  Seriously.  They are far too cautious.  Everything is feasible, you just need a little imagination, something you guys have a lot of judging by your games.

Frankly anyone with half a brain knew the exact reason that it was USA only. If people actually bothered to read contest rules every once in a while, or be vaguely aware of their local laws instead of being lazy bastages they'd realize that contest laws, rules and regulations from country/state/town/province/country vary and can be damn hard to reconcile. But lets not actually think! We might strain something!

/rant

Maybe a little uncalled for but the crying is getting on my nerves. Yes it sucks but ya know what lots of stuff USA people can't enter too! I've never whined publicly about it.
