That's fair enough - an unfortunate situation, but the apology is appreciated and accepted. I still raise an Udina style fist at EA though.
I kind of like my sig though so i'll keep hold of it for a while yet!
One of the benefits of partnering with EA, whenever something bad happens, they make a good scapegoat, and I don't think they even care.

But why this wasn't announced when Bazaar started?

I kid, I kid...
Apology accepted. Looking forward to any future events.

That's why I don't believe that there was ever intention to do it worldwide. An apology now is damage control. The main problem though is the hype created before, which wouldn't be appropriate for THIS in any case. But in fact the fans have only themselves to blame, I for one was certainly not holding my breath for anything.

Hi everyone -
The BioWare Bazaar was launched this week as the start of a year-long celebration around BioWare’s 15th anniversary.
A year-long celebration? Are you nutts? O.O;
(in a good way)
Ray Muzyka wrote...
We recognize that BioWare has a global community, and the Bazaar this
week was originally intended to be an international event to reflect our
truly global fanbase. Unfortunately, we encountered some last-minute
legal complications around how contests can be structured in different
parts of the world that prevented us from including all territories in
this first event, even though that was our original goal. And for that,
we sincerely apologize – our
goal with this sort of celebration is to show all our fans worldwide how
much we appreciate your support!
While I will have to join the ranks of the people who are sceptical to this last minute complication, I accept your apology with reservations in regards of the reasons stated, but your post did feel like a very formal one and i wasnt expecting anything else so im cool with it. Apology Accepted

Anyways, moving on now. Time for an apology from me
as well...
...
So how about it? Group hug?
Now this apology i accept no questions asked. I was also going for the group hug but.....

Lambasting us won't accomplish anything. Bah! Just flock off.
>_<;;;;
I feel forced to demote the group hug to a pat on the back, hope thats still cool with you Chris.

Thanks for the announcement, Ray and Greg. It's good to hear that this US-exclusive Bazaar wasn't intentional on your part, and that the rest of the world still exists. It might have been prudent to make an announcement like this before making the Bazaar public though, but at least you did it now. Hopefully there's a lesson learned on both sides here.
Sorry - but believing "last minute complications" seems rather ...... naive.
A company like Bioware does not initiate a project like this without clearing legal issues before hand. It isn't like tons of competitions like this never have been conducted already from various companies - everybody and their dog would know that legal complications existed and that most competitions of this manner is US only when the company is in proximity to the US.
They would have known well before hand that the competition would be (most of) US only and could easily have announced it as such instead as a "community" event and they should have done so.
This apology seems like little other then a hollow attempt at appeasing some of the (non-)community members who were for some reason surprised by Bioware's focus on US only as is customed with such events as this.

yes, the none-community will remember where they put the gun cabinet keys. The company will remember that we'd nearly had them loaded this time. Joking
Still, it does leave a lot of people with random tokens they cant use...might i suggest making it so they carry over to the next comp?

this was very cool.....people should have been patient enough to find out the problem before ranting and raving.
a great many of us knew and understood and accepted the legal issue when the auction was finally announced. what we had a problem with is the fact the epic event was marketed to the entire international community then when the doors opened we were told we were'nt on the list.
I'm eagerly awaiting future events i can participate in and appreciate the apologies.
Can't help thinking that line about last minute legal issues is total bull though.
This kind of event had to be potentionally months in the planning and at an educated guess i would imagine the legal side is checked, double checked and set before anything else is set in motion.
If so then it's a bald faced, out and out lie smack dab in the middle of a 'sincere' apology.
Instead of just saying 'hey we screwed up and we're sorry' which I for one would greatly respect, they've gone for ' oh well gosh ya know what there was this last minute thing we so had no control over, not really our fault'.
Unfourtunatly, this makes their 'sincere' apology completely worthless.
That EA is bad influence on you Bioware!

Thank you for reminding me that people simply want to believe. I didn't understand the immediate forgiveness of so many, but this makes it clear again.
Its all about believing, there is nothing else left in our worl axcept of beliving (even if its just lying to yourself) and hoping for the best. So don't ruin it for us
Belief is important, sure, but sound reason is also required to survive.
It's a balance, not just one of the two.
So I will continue to ask my questions, and if you want your bubble intact, best not read my posts

A reminder to please keep insults and personal attacks off the forums.
I'm glad people are taking Ray & Greg's apology to heart and it was sincere and it is genuine. I know there will always be people out there who say "well I doubt it was last minute complications" (people still doubt the moon landing, the power of bacon as a cure-all, my ability to jump tall buildings in a single bound, etc) but I would suggest that if they weren't last minute complications, do you really think we'd have excluded Canada? Where we are? Really?
Anyways, moving on now. Time for an apology from me as well. The BioWare Bazaar IS a cool event and, if we had been able to get it working as we intended, potentially Epic. Yes, not nearly enough people are able to be part of it (see Ray & Greg's apology), but the event is cool. Where I went wrong is in how we marketed it to you and for that I apologize. We used the word "Epic" before we had proven that it was. Sorry. We also used the Countdown timer to generate interest. In hindsight, this allowed rampant speculation which caused disappointment. Again, sorry. While I won't promise we will never use a timer like it again, I can promise we will make sure that such a timer is worthy of the interest it will attract.
So, for those who are taking part in the BioWare Bazaar, thanks for your interest. We are having a great response and people are having fun with it. And for those who cannot be part of the BioWare Bazaar, my apologies as well. As Ray & Greg indicated, we do have more events coming this year to celebrate our 15th Anniversary, including the one specifically for those who were excluded from the Bazaar. We do greatly value our Community. All of it, no matter where you are from and we're going to prove it.
So how about it? Group hug?
:-D Great to hear that :-) Thx *Group hug*<3
Btw when is the next DLC coming?

I see your point, but I don't think BioWare really handled all this by themselves - EA public relations/some other division would sound more likely. Even if BioWare originally requested the campaign to be worldwide, EA necessarily wouldn't have informed them that it's completely impossible to achieve - not until the campaign was ready to be launched anyway. Or something very similar in fashion. I'm not unaware of corporate cabinet politics, but I'd still like to believe Ray and Greg really are sincerely about their apology, even if they're not telling us everything.Xandax wrote...

I doubt anything EA is invovled in.
I'm guessing EA handle Bio's legal side now, yes? and to be frank I don' think they give a toss if Canada is excluded.
If they believe it's in EA's best intrest for what ever reason to do so, you bet your ass they will.
Let's put it this way, and I think many should think long and hard about this. Half of us are arm chair jockies and we knew about the gaming laws that would mean many would be excluded, it is after all fairly common knowledge in the gaming world.
So your suggesting EA's legal department, full of well trained legal minds did NOT know?
Of course they bloody knew! If there is one thing EA does well it's cover their own legal ass.
Now if you guys at Bio happened to be told by EA it was a last minute thing well...............

Since, I say that at least there's an apology, with even a wish to "fix" the scandal as can be. For that, I say : "thank you, Bioware". I sincerely think that the problem here was EA-related, not Boiware, and thanks to this answer, I'm willing to think that Bioware really cares about its community (as a whole...).
I still hope there'll be some kind of apology on the french and german forums too, even in english, and even if it's the same : a Bioware guy who takes the time, let's say 2 minutes, to come there and paste the same answer is better than nothing, and shows at least they recognize those forums to be part of the community as well.
By the way, I remind you, Bioware guys, that on the french forum (not sure about the german one), there is only 1 official guy, from EA, who is the community manager for France (for all EA games...), and so who can come only once a month. We feel a bit left there, so maybe someone who takes 2 mins a week to come and post any single stuff, would be a great idea I think. But it's my opinion. This way we'll know for sure we are not despised
Again, thanks for the answer anyway.

The best way to celebrate Bioware's 15th anniversary would have been the announcement of Baldur's Gate III
