Ray Muzyka wrote...

Hi everyone -

The BioWare Bazaar was launched this week as the start of a year-long celebration around BioWare’s 15th anniversary.

We recognize that BioWare has a global community, and the Bazaar this week was originally intended to be an international event to reflect our truly global fanbase. Unfortunately, we encountered some last-minute legal complications around how contests can be structured in different parts of the world that prevented us from including all territories in this first event, even though that was our original goal.  And for that, we sincerely apologize – our goal with this sort of celebration is to show all our fans worldwide how much we appreciate your support!

BioWare definitely really values all members of our world-wide Community, no matter where you live.  Accordingly, in the coming weeks, we will be announcing details about future events specifically for fans living in those territories which were excluded from participating in the first BioWare Bazaar.  The future events will be a bit different from the first Bazaar in how they’re set up and structured, but our goal is to feature the same caliber of awesome prizes and great BioWare collectibles.  We’ll announce more details in the coming weeks :)

The reception from those fans who have been able to take part in this first event has been incredible – thank you for participating! - and we’re looking forward to future events where we can enable fans from additional territories to also join in the fun.

Thank you all for your continued and ongoing support and participation in the BioWare Community – we really appreciate all your support over the past 15 years, and the future will be even brighter!

Sincerely,

Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk
Co-founders, BioWare

Bioware truely the best company on the planet. Thank you for this response.

Appreciate the post. I look forward to those events that excluded folks like me here in Florida. Although I wish it didn't take something like this to get Ray and Greg over here. ;)

Ray and Greg did not actually come over to type that up, they texted it from their yachts.

Kidding.  Thnaks and Chris I will accept the group hug if you will accept this Image IPB

Sincerely, if you, BioWare, can't do a worldwide Bazaar launch, maybe it would be better don't do anything like that for anybody and prepare another kind of event for everybody.

I like to see this apologies, really I like, but during the next weeks, by the moment, I will keep my signature until I can be a part of the eligible community again.

Yes, you read the fine print right. Florida and New York are also excluded from the bazaar.

Happy 15th Ray and Greg, and may you not go the way of Origin Systems any time soon. I like to think there are still people out there who make games because they enjoy making games.

.....Anyways, moving on now. Time for an apology from me as well. The BioWare Bazaar IS a cool event and, if we had been able to get it working as we intended, potentially Epic. Yes, not nearly enough people are able to be part of it (see Ray & Greg's apology), but the event is cool. Where I went wrong is in how we marketed it to you and for that I apologize. We used the word "Epic" before we had proven that it was. Sorry. We also used the Countdown timer to generate interest. In hindsight, this allowed rampant speculation which caused disappointment. Again, sorry. While I won't promise we will never use a timer like it again, I can promise we will make sure that such a timer is worthy of the interest it will attract....

Thank You for that Chris, becouse the way, how  "Community Event" was marketed, in a fact, is the main reason, why so many ppl were disappointed.
Anyway time to move on..Happy Birthday BioWareImage IPB

P.S. Will keep my sign, becouse I like it a lot Image IPB

Apologies accepted.

But in hindsight, perhaps handling of the reaction by the staff could have been better? Instead of one liners that close threads, an "explanation is coming" sort of response would have been better. One of these threads were even picked up by major gaming news site - not good PR.

Thank you for the apology, just don't ask me to create a twitter account please ?

Too late...

Haha!

You're evil, Twitter too.

"Twitter is not good for you bobby! Twitter is the DEVIL!" - Taken from Waterboy (modified obviously).

I really hope they manage to make the next system so we can avoid using twitter as it'd be, a lot of twitter chaos when everyone in the world participating use twitter -.- Confusion, mayham and most likely anger spouting out ;)

I was pretty sure we would never get any official response, so I do appreciate this apology. But this is still a total PR fiasco and has damaged the company's reputation among many people. I wish all the best to BioWare and hope your principles will not be completely corrupted by EA.

I wonder what exactly these legal issues were that caused this contest to suddenly exclude everyone but 48 states. I mean each country has it's own laws regarding these types of events/contests, so they would have to look into each countries laws to find ways to make it work. I'm wondering how a multi-billion dollar international company with tons of lawyers could miss something that would cause the event to exclude most of the world. I would think that international laws wouldn't be a problem for a company that ships it products around the world, you'd have to know them very well to do this. I'm not trying to bash the company really, I'm just curious as to the blunder that caused all this.
The apology was nice to see though, even if it felt very scripted, but I must remain a skeptic simply because I'm still waiting for fixes that they said were coming months ago that have never come. Sadly until I actually see something I won't be getting my hopes up. Oh well, time to wait and see.
Happy Birthday Bioware Image IPB    Image IPB

The apology is cool, especially since I really wasn't expecting word from Bioware on this, and that it came from the highest ups gives it some meaning.

That said I'm a keepin' mah bannerz, like 'em too much.

Today Activision is the real enemy, more than the Collectors or the Reapers xD
EA is not much better, yeah, but if I have to make a choice between both, today, EA is the good kid, but hey, is not the better in the class.

That was all we wanted to hear. Credit to you guys for this response. I hope next time a little more care is taken before the great hype machine is deployed.
