I'm with you Maviarab. Far from mollifying me, I find the claim that apparently lawyers ambushed them at the last second is insulting to our intelligence.

You may be right that they're lying that they originally planned for it to be global.
But do you really think it's so unlikely that the legal difficulties are... well... difficult?
Considering they can't even do it within Florida and New York where they ARE doing it now.

Encountered...at the last minute? Yeah right...

as long as it isnt pissing off my friends by spamming crap all over facebook...I may be interested...otherwise, your not helping endear yourselves to your fans...

Shhh, Mav... we all know that sometimes Legal teams suck badly! Let's just pretend we buy that and go back supporting our fav game devs! But don't they forget to fix the huge amount of issues with their latest releases, PLEASE!!!

I'm surprised people are so mad about this stuff? I mean most contests exclude florida because of their legal system. This isn't the first time this has happened guys, what is this the first contest you've entered?

Edit: PS, read the rules of the contests you enter people, 99% of the time Florida and NY are excluded.

People were mad b/c there was a big countdown for it, regardless of whether or not you were eligible and it was penned as an "Epic Community Event". Then they found out that only US residents need apply.

They could have done things better, like making sure that it was clear that this was just part 1 of the celebration and such earlier, but a response the next day on the issue and clarifying that more would be coming is still good.

Why is it no matter how many times I see it I am still amazed at how quickly common sense is thrown out the window when in a mob?

common sense is dead and buried

I appreciate the sentiment, however, I did think that Canada would get in on this. Especially considering Bio-Ware is located in Canada...

All the idiots who are saying we should of waited for the news rather than have posted our discust in the announcement thread are morons.

I seriously doubt this announcement was being planned prior to those not in community showing their anger and discust. This is obviously a quick response to the situation which is why we've heard no response from BioWare up until now.

Basically what I'm saying is voicing your oinion works and you should practice this right. If you're a customer of  company you should be treated with respect and not act like a mindless brown-nosing stooge, as some of the people posting here are implyling you should act. If you are unhappy with how a company is acting in certain respects then you should voice your distress and not just stay quiet as a parent would want a child to be, because we're BioWare's costumes not friends or employees.

Hey! You are not allowed to use your brain here! :P

Sloth, thanks mate, as a member of Mensa and being very legally savy, it actually is an insult to my intelligence.

Its a cupboard love apology post in my opinion, very empty and hollow, and was done purely to appease the sheep here who are now happy little campers....some people are so easily pleased....

These days all governments and companies take time to craft official messages like the one Bioware just released. Far better to try and make sure you've covered all the issues than to start firing off random responses that might just irritate people rather than appeasing them (as this response appeased most of us).

Thanks, BioWare. A statement like that goes a long way, though I still wish you would have included it from the beginning.

A response and an apology..good enough for me,  I tend to be forgiving that way.

I find myself sceptical that you only realised at the last minute that it was going to be US-only, despite the necessary advance planning and then a week's worth of marketing via the counter.

Having said that, it doesn't really matter to me what the reasons were. Because the fact that you care enough to post such a response is more than good enough for me. You've restored a lot of my faith in the company, and (though some would no doubt criticise me for failing to learn my lesson) I look forward to seeing what you have planned for the future.

Damn some of you are easily pleased....your all pitch forks and torches...and then one simple, very generic, very scripted, and very hollow and empty post later which probably took ohhhhh all of 3 minutes to post....

and your all happy little campers again lmao.....jesus christ.....

I totally agree, and I'll just say this again:
The people on this board are sheep

It is far easier to ask forgiveness than to ask permission.....I am not sure how this is relevant but thought I'd say it anyways.

It's better than no response at all, and while I'm not convinced by the reasoning given, I am not so obsessed with forcing people to admit they're wrong. Even if the excuse is just to save face, they're promising to make up for the incident, and I am choosing to once again believe them when they make these promises. I am capable of forgiving most people once. Obviously if they don't follow through, I doubt I'd be the only one they lost forever.

I wouldn't want to win anything in the real world anyway. I would be very happy with a nice new magic staff for Dragon Age, though, one with +15 magic on it that i could use at level 1. If something like that just showed up in my backpack, bliss... :)

I'm glad to see BioWare reaching out to the rest of the world, but the general reaction here pisses me off. BioWare was doing this as an extra fan-service thing, they had no responsibility or pressure to do ANYTHING for us, so people should have just given them a nod of respect. They are doing something above and beyond what they need to do, or what anyone expected them to do.

I can't believe people are bashing them for this, for doing totally un-needed fan-service. They are an awesome company to be doing this at all, in any regions, so just be happy good companies like this exist (as opposed to crap companies like Activision).

You must be new here?

Yeah, why does that matter? Does my opinion count less because I haven't posted in this forum before?

I think he was being humorous.  I'm still not sure why people are so up in arms about the whole thing.

But do you really think it's so unlikely that the legal difficulties are... well... difficult?

If you have any semblence of intelligence or business accumen....difficulties do not just 'crop up at the last minute'....

For gods sake, were not talking about Bob's corner store, were talking international business's here....who pay lawyers more money per month than a lot of us probably earn in a year...and they had a last minute encounter?

Seriously....

Ray Muzyka wrote...

Hi everyone -

The BioWare Bazaar was launched this week as the start of a year-long celebration around BioWare’s 15th anniversary.

We recognize that BioWare has a global community, and the Bazaar this week was originally intended to be an international event to reflect our truly global fanbase. Unfortunately, we encountered some last-minute legal complications around how contests can be structured in different parts of the world that prevented us from including all territories in this first event, even though that was our original goal.  And for that, we sincerely apologize – our goal with this sort of celebration is to show all our fans worldwide how much we appreciate your support!

...

Sincerely,

Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk
Co-founders, BioWare

Thanks for the post and the apology, much appreciated. A wise and carefully worded post too. Just the truth and a few necessary "white lies" included, that's how things are after all.

I imagine there have been a few conference calls leading up to your post, well, there ought to be a lesson in that: never again put the marketing department in charge of a community event, that's what community managers are for. They just know better and have other priorities. Honestly, there is no such thing as an "epic" marketing campaign in this world, no matter how successful the campain might be. :)

Cheers!

Because the members of the non-community are that stupid, right?
