What do you think so far about the KOTOR MMO?
Well, I for one, think it will either be really good, or really bad.
Here are things that I so far don't like...

The negatives:
* I can't stand the art style, everything looks like plastic.
* People will have names with numbers, or some really stupid names.
* "Go there, fetch this" quests will be more common.
* Paying for a game, after you already paid for the game. Over and over. <_<
* More restricted story
* Less immersive

The positives:
* Adventuring with friends.
* Showing off your gear to friends.
* Getting/Giving help to friends.
* Creating a unique story with your friends.

I think we have to judge it based off what it is. All the negatives you mentioned are simply descriptive of MMOs in general, or look like they will be better in TOR than in any other MMO (the story issues mostly). I'm reserving my judgment until I get to play it, but what I've seen looks fantastic. I also think the art style makes a lot of sense for what they're trying to do.

Alas - I'm still bitter about it not being singleplayer KotOR 3, so I am unable to have an unbiased opinion on the game itself.

I don't know what to think really. I played FFXI and WoW and then FFXI again, and then promised I'd never play another MMO.

But here I am considering this one. It doesn't help that I have a couple of friends who want to play. Really what it comes down to is whether or not playing it takes over my life. When I have to start planning my life around a video game is where I draw the line.

The thing about TOR is Bioware is attempting to do something incredibly difficult. Not just running an MMO for the first time either. ;) But trying to add story to it. To get that right, is an enormous undertaking. If anyone can do it, its Bioware, but I still have my doubts. I want it to suceed I really really do but I still cant get my head around how they can make it work smoothly. It could work... but smoothly?

So yeah I agree with the OP actually. It certainly wont be average, It will either be hugely sucessful or it will be a huge flop.

FFXI actually did a pretty good job of this, if you did the various missions and such. So it is definitely possible.

I know it will be hard for them to do, but I sure hope that they pull through! All of their other games are awesome.

I don't see how it being online will make it any less immersive, as we know there are safeguards to naming, and you can turn off chat, player names, and so on if you want to play solo, and will cater to solo/social, hardcore/casual players.

I definitely do not know how it will have a more restrictive story. You pick one of eight, completely different stories, and then the story aspect will be like any BioWare RPG. So far, we have seen nothing to disprove this, and we have seen quite a bit showing that it is in fact possible to be online and have a deep story. They have hinted at some plot devices, such as killing someone and then a character appearing later on because of that, etc. I really don't think it will be anymore restrictive than a regular RPG.

The art style is personal choice, I personally like it, but I think character models need some work, IMO. I actually think aliens look great, the humans just need tweaking. As for fetch quests, I think they won't be very common at all, especially considering the focus on adding story, removing MMO grinds, and removing the "kill" quests.

I agree with many of the above posters. :) I also would like to mention that the story of KotOR will be tied up in TOR.

I agree in that it will either be amazing or terrible.

I'm leaning more towards the latter at the moment. Because I just can't see how an mmorpg can play like a single player game.(With the exception of Guild Wars, which you would get really bored with really fast soloing.)

Personally, I'd much rather have  Kotor 3. I'd like to see what happens to my Revan and Exile in the end. But I don't see how a game set thousands of years after Kotor 2 can include that at all. And even then, I can't see it including options to mention every possible Revan or Exile. It would only mention the canonical ones. And quite frankly.. I don't care about the canon Revan or Exile. I care about the ones I made for my games and the stories in my head.(Carth fangirls would be very very sad with only hearing about a canonical Revan. Which in turn, makes me sad, because I'm one of them.)

But I've only just gotten into the Kotor series recently. I don't have any intention of playing TOR, personally. Not unless it's amazing, or I manage to try it for free.

I equally like and dislike mmo's. Depending on the particular one and the community for it. In general, there's just too much damn drama to make playing the game that much fun.(And this is coming from me. I've played RO on and off for 5 years or more.) Honestly, I prefer single player games, and I wish they were making Kotor 3 instead.

At number one and number 7, absolutely. It has been confirmed that much of the character models you see for humans are in fact going to be improved and/or replaced with new ones. Also, worlds are apparently massive, according to interviews.

As for number 10, I think it is a safe bet that you will be able to have a very unique story. One thing that Lead Writer Daniel Erickson (<3) talks about is how you can take friends along for the ride in missions, and the outcome will be unique because they can interact as well, make choices, and their class will affect dialogue, argue, etc. So if you are in a party of four, and one makes a choice no one else likes, they can argue a little bit about it, and have differing opinions, an amazing experience in an MMORPG IMO.

I would be very surprised if the art style was changed. Textures may get improved, the lighting will get worked on, we may see some more anti-aliasing, but it shouldn't change greatly. Personally I think it's fine, the cartoon look allows them to produce attractive visuals while limiting complexity.

At first paragraph: that is part of the challenge. However, they have said that you can play the game as a solo player, a social player, a casual or hardcore player, they are catering to different types. It is effectively an RPG with the online capabilities of an MMO. For instance, solo players can turn off chat, player names, and play the majority of the game by themselves in the largest RPG ever created, essentially.

Second: TOR is set three hundred years after KotOR, and references are everywhere. HK-47 (and possibly T3-M4) is to make an appearance, the descendant of Bastila is in game, it continues the story of KotOR I and II, showing the 'True' Sith of KotOR II, and showing what happened to Revan/Exile, according to Lead Writer Daniel Erickson.

As to MMO problems, I agree. MMO's generally do have these problems, however I genuinely think this will be different. BioWare is making a strong push to make an MMO of a whole new generation.

You are right, and I agree. It won't have drastic changes to the art style (which I personally love) but will have some improvements to more technical things. I just say they may make changes to character models because of what Gordon Walton said at PAX last year, saying there would be some changes.

Hell, it will be even more than that, too! After the single player lines, I would expect story lines to all players of their faction, and then endgame, and more, most likely one for the continuation of KotOR. (Geeze I am a fanboy, sorry *weeping*)

I've heard as much about how it plays. I'm not sure how well that will work out however. I wouldn't play an mmo completely solo. I'd want to play a game with NPC party members, personally. Because the interaction is what I like most.

And regardless if there are references or not, it's still the canonical references. It's not personalized in any way from what I've heard. And I'd rather see Carth's descendants than Bastila's personally, or hell. Atton's descendant's for that matter.

I don't see any way how they can make the Kotor fans all happy with the mmo. Yes, they can put in references. But I highly doubt they can personalize the references to reflect how the individual played Kotor 1 and 2.(Meaning a female Revan, or a male Exile. Because canonically, Revan is male and the Exile is female.)

I can see that they're obviously trying to push the limit on mmo's here. But I'm skeptical as to whether it will work or not. Not to mention, I'd rather just buy a game than pay a monthly fee.
