I went through the alienage and found the Sexton while there. My journal updated saying "it may be of value to someone" and I remembered the chantry board had something about that on it.

So, I go to the Chantry board and somehow the quest is already accepted, despite the fact that I didn't accept it before going into the alienage. I try talking to the Chantry woman to give her the item and complete the quest but it gives me no option to do so (she just says her generic saying without going into dialog). I've tried leaving the area and coming back but still nothing. Anyone got any ideas?

IIRC the quest is to return the item to who lost it, at which point you can probably complete the quest at the chantry woman.



There are many quests you pickup from acquiring an item that can be picked up from other places as well, it is more to prevent quests from breaking then to break immersion or anything.
