BIOWARE - Is using the image trick to increase Bioware Bazaar points okay?

Hello,

As it turns out, I've started a trend of people putting their Bioware Bazaar links as images into their posts. The idea was just to make the process more convenient - for the exchangers and Bioware both. Stanley Woo decided that this was a little too much like cheating (I suppose it's the principle that counts, even though here on the Bioware forums we all know of the products already, link or no link.) and closed down the exchange threads that were initially made for this. Still, there are now a lot of people going around with the image tag trick put inside their signatures here on the Bioware forums. This makes the situation a little strange since the circumstances naturally favor people who do this, but with those threads closed down, the practice is a little more dubious. The end result is that people who want to play it safe are left behind.

This begs the question: Is it okay (so it's fair game for all of us) or will there be measures taken to prevent and possibly even rollback this sort of point bumping? What exactly is Bioware's stance on using image tags to increase your points?

Thank you,
Mad Method

PS: While we're on the subject of starting trends to get more out of Bioware...  Did you guys mind when I started the trend of digging through the Character Creator files for spoilers before the game was out?

EDIT: Stanley Woo has given his response here and based on that I've decided to add signature links too. If you're going to use signature links though, please be respectful of the forum's mores and don't spam.

PPS: Reading the rest of the thread might be worthwhile. There's some good discussion here. ;)

EDIT #2: Okay, according to Chris Priestly here anyone who uses the trick will lose their points. Nevermind then.

Personally, I think it's a little sketchy, since you're essentially exploiting the bbCode of the forums to do it.

The threads were closed not because they were dedicated to the image tag exploit, but because there were already threads (three of them) dedicated to the link exchange and getting people more hits. Creating more threads was simply spam.

Most image tag exploit posts are edited and links are removed because they are similarly spamming the thread in which they are posted, usually in non-link exchange threads. Because the image tag exploit is a little sketchy, I'm a little stricter in when and where people can post them. Like regular links, I have little to no problem with people posting links to their signature blocks or in threads specifically designed to exchange links. Throwing the links around willy-nilly is what gets folks in trouble.

If anyone has any additional questions or concerns regarding our community or this message, please let me know. Thank you.

I also said it was sketchy and likely an exploit, if you wish to look to my comment. I'm not involved in the contest at all and wasn't trying to make any definitive statement on rules. I was merely doing my job as a forum Moderator to enforce our Site Rules. Besides which, no matter what I say about a contest or giveaway (and I said very little), I defer to official rules--such as the posted BioWare Bazaar event rules and our posted Site Rules--and Mr. Priestly in all matters community-related.

I apologize if anyone misinterpreted the intention and content of my comment.

AS I already mentioned previously, i have nothing at all to do with this contest. I'm betting that even if Mr. Priestly wanted to address this right here and now, he is likely not in the office at 2am on a Friday night on an Easter long weekend. It may also be that other people he would have to consult with and/or get approvals and/or information from are also not in their offices at 2am on a Friday night... on an Easter long weekend.

And to address a previous post, BioWare is on Mountain time, which is GMT -0700, so a file modified at 3am GMT Friday morning would have been done at BioWare at 8pm Thursday evening.

No matter how we feel about this, people, let's try and keep the torches and pitchforks in the closets for now and wait until our various offices are open again and people return to work on Monday, possibly Tuesday, depending on what days each office considers a holiday.

I volunteered for this unenviable task almost 8 years ago. I'm not going to abandon it just because I hit a rough patch now and again, because I love this community so much. Which is why it seems a little strange to see come of the responses from self-styled "fans" of BioWare whose loyalty to the company they purport to love seems to wax and wane with the tides. Maybe I'm one of the few who takes a "for better or for worse" approach to the companies/media/products I claim to be a fan of, but like I always say, "different strokes for different folks." :)
