Your Total: It's larger than an integer can store.

Do some research on it, I did enough to get it that high.

There could be people outside of the BioWare community who are participating in the contest and using the exploits as well. We don't have solid numbers, but if people are truly dedicated, I daresay they can reach 50,000 by Tuesday.

But if they're using the expolit, according to Chris, they're getting nothing.

My reason for eventually using it, whether wrong or not, was that after 2 days of watching it being discussed on these forums, there was no comment on whether it was or was not an exploit. I watched my point total begin to pale in comparison to other people's and still no one was swinging the ban hammer. Eventually, I decided that all the legitimate twittering and posting that had been done was all going to be for naught, as there was no way to keep up with the img people.
After Stanley commented on it, and discussion was still allowed, I assumed they were saying "we don't like it, but we're not going to stop it."
I'm not trying to make excuses for it and if they ban they ban, I wish they would have brought the hammer down as soon as this started though so everyone would have known up front for sure.
Silence was tantamount to complicity in this case.

This is that "herd mentality" I was talking about. I find it difficult to place blame.

To use a very odd metaphor:
There is a big pile of candy.
You are told to get as much candy as you can.
You see lots of people using trash bags to get the candy.
You, therefore, do the same.
3 days later you are told you were only supposed to use your hands and should have ignored everyone telling you to use trash bags

In this case a truer analogy would be:

There is a big pile of candy.
You are told to get as much candy as
you carry.
You see lots of people using thier cars and think 'Hey, didn't this say CARRY?  Oh well I will just do it because everyone else is even though it is obviously against the spirit of the contest.".
3 days later you are told you were only supposed to take what you culd carry, not fit in your car and
should have ignored everyone telling you to use a car since it was pretty obvious that wasn't what you were originally told.
Instead fo admitting that you wer wrong, you then cry like a 3 year old and demand that your keep your carload of candy.

ROFLMFFAO Best post I've read in a loooong time! lmao Keep 'em comin' Sloth!

You're a very "up" person, aren't you? ;)

Yes, yes I am.

I also don't see how people who cheat and get called out for it expect sympathy.

It wasn't cheating until Mod declared it so. and no one here likes you so just stop posting.

I don't particularly recall anyone in this thread asking for sympathy. I seem to have seen most of them asking for a clearer answer on exactly what action is going to be taken - and how easily seen exploits like posting someone else's code in an image link aren't going to be unfairly banned.

We are not expecting any sympathy at all, Sloth. In fact, many of us are resigned to the fact that we will not be able to partcipate in the auction. BioWare has every right to deny people access to this auction as they see fit. They even denied you, a Canadian, to partcipate in the auction, now, didn't they?

Claim moral integrity all you want, Sloth. I am certain that you too, would have taken advantage of this exploit had you had the opportunity to do so. But what we did was neither morally right nor morally wrong, and if you think that BioWare is the ultimate judge of our morality, then you are wrong. They merely get to judge whether or not we get to participate in the contest or not.

But, there are many exploits beyond the mere BB code exploit.

Oh, good shot sir!  I must say that sally has left me without a leg to stand on.  I was thinking of perhaps falling back to "No, you." or "I know you are but what am I?" but I do believe that your well thought out argument has carried the day.  I cede this battle of wits to you, oh erudite master of maturity and panache.

This is by no means an issue of morality.

The real issue here is the confusion that was caused by the NEGLECT of BioWare to properly construct a competition in which rules were clear, furthermore answer questions regarding the integrity of a token collection method which much of the community decided they didn't have a chance in hell if they didn't use it. So they figured they would, considering Moderators made NO MENTION about it being illegal in terms of competition rules, whilst the question was readily available for them to answer via the forums that they monitor very regularly.

BioWare is to blame for their neglect and ignorance regarding the situation.

i find it silly that the Image "exploit" is ban hammeriffic, while the use firefox multiclick app(which is pimp BTW)  in this thread exchange isnt...

both are outside the spirit of the contest... as has been explained by the Devs...  its "get your friend to click here on this URL" as in facebook, twitter, myspace etc.... not hey lets hook up and exchange our clickies...

both seem to me the same outside of the bounds.

the click being the only difference.

i still think there are plenty of exploits out there that cannot be even tracked...   im not doing them... but i can think of them...

its great that this rule has been clarified but its way too late in the game for it to be a retroactive thing IMO..... especially when a large majority of the people using it thought it legit and quit when they found it to be otherwise.

You're getting nothing with 20k or less tokens.

Where did this come from?

Last time I checked, Crixt was the highest with ~23k.

Just because his count is the highest publically recorded doesn't make it the actual highest.
I gaurantee you there are people over 30k at this very moment(no, i'm not one of them).

"There is someone with 30k" is not the same as "If you have 20k or less, you're getting nothing."

The highest number we have is 23k. There are probably a few people higher than that. Assuming that there are over a hundred people much higher than that though (one person suggested 100k on the other thread) makes little sense.

Edit: Two days ago, Stanley said that the highest number of tokens was around 12k.

Referals aren't additive.
If you gain 5k referrals in the first day, then if you keep up the pace on the 2nd day, your number of referrals does not increase by 5k.
Your number of referrals on the 2nd day increases by 10k, putting your total at 15k. (5k first day, 5k 2nd day from new links, 5k 2nd day from the links you set up on the first day).
By the third day, your total would be 30k.
By the 4th? 50k.

I'm just simplifying it, of course. Theres numerous other factors at play such as web traffic.

Sloth, your logic is terrible.

How's this. We're having a race. There are 100 people in this race. Rules say you have to only walk to the finish line, which is 200 yards away. Only the first 20 to get across the finish line get a prize.

20 yards into the race, 30 people start power walking.
You ask the judges "is it legal to power walk? i think that might not be true to the race, but if i dont start now, and it's legal, I'll lose, and I want a medal!"
10 yards further, they've said nothing, so you start power walking too to try to catch up.

A little later in the race, everyone that power walked is disqualified, and only the people that really didn't care about winning a medal get to stay.  That, and the people that only power walked with the judges backs turned.

Oh really? I go to a Jesuit university myself. I love having Easter off.

Guess you are pretty bummed out about this whole thing, are you?
