Edit: @bioware I really hate your FCKEditor, native textarea thanks.
Sorry to the dev who created Promotion.js, you didn't comment it so I don't know what promo_secure_code is supposed to be, looks like md5 or session var *shrugs*

So are they gone for Easter weekend? Will there be no official response to this?

Dev's don't have the day off or were working late (I don't read GMT, or convert to/from).

They tweeted that there will be no more challenges until Monday. Have a good weekend.

I hope you do post a sticky thread or something about this. Just so people know 'bout it and all. :3

Yep lol that's what it looks like. So I guess the plan is to let this news spread around like wildfire, wait until it does damage and split the community in two, and then after a couple of days maybe comment on it. You know, if they feel like it.

They don't make us squirm because they get sick pleasure from it.
(Except maybe Chris Priestly... he might be a little Evil. <3 )   It's more that they have full-time jobs that likely go into overtime quite often, and if they do come on the forums most of the time it's on their own free time- of which they have little when they're working diligently on another product to fill me with nerdish glee. As I understand it, they are doing just that.

Is it perfect? No. But what is? We'll get the answers we need as soon as they have answers and the ability to give them to us. Be patient, they're a clever group and won't let something this silly ruin the fun for everyone.

I wanna throw one more little wrench into this: Anyone who posted their URL on Facebook unwittingly performed the img trick.

Facebook would attach the link and actually reach through it an pull the pictures from the Dragon Age or Mass Effect site that got redirected. But, for everyone friend of the user who logged into Facebook and had that link pop up on their feed, a referral click was automatically added.

Now this is more in the spirit of the competition, as the friends also saw the advertisement. But, if someone got a lot of referral clicks via Facebook performing the img trick for them, should they have their tokens reset, too?

Off of Chris Priestly's profile: "BioWare's Community Coordinator "Evil Chris Priestly works at the BioWare main office in Edmonton Alberta. Besides laying down the law on the BioWare forums, he also gets to play the best games in teh world before the rest of you as well as bein"

http://social.bioware.com/46/ < his profile

While I know that these people have jobs and responsibilities, they also are supposed to do their jobs effectively. If anything, not looking out for potential problems on the forums, where these problems would originate, then come in 2 days late after a lot of damage has been done, and tell everyone that of they did this they will be stripped of their tokes is not doing your job effectively. What they should have done is come to the forums, see that a problem has spread, researched what exactly happened, and then make a educated decision on what to do. No just look at the forums, see that a problem has been spreading, and then outright kick people out of the contest for doing something they didn't know was wrong. Like it says, his job is to lay down the law on the forums. My guess is part of that job is to have a COMPLETE UNDERSTANDING of a situation before he kicks out a huge section of the FANBASE FOR HIS COMPANY (caps for him, not for you lol.).

Hey man good eye.  I was under the impression that the img tag wouldn't process anything after the social.bioware.com/brc/### page.

I could be wrong I didn't have time to really look into it, can you confirm/deny my theory?

Listen, as much as I am going against BioWare on this subject, I really don't want to make them out to be some evil corporation. They still are my favorite developer, and I will still gladly buy stuff from them. I realize that they are in a tough spot right now, but they decided to hold a contest. Dealing with problems is just part of the process. If anything, the more this burns them now, the more they will iron out the rules and problems of future contests. I mean, if we have to go through this, what is right/wrong fight everytime they hold a contest, it's not going to be fun for anyone. It's just a big, rather unfortunate mess.

Well for Facebook, you didn't have to put the img tag in.  If you just put your link in a status update, Facebook would automatically follow it and then post its contests below your summary.  And before the redirect they put in, it would go past your tag all the way to the page with the adds.

Now that the redirect in, Facebook will just send people to you social.bioware/brc/* page.

So, yeah, people who may have even been against the img trick could have been unknowingly doing it there.

Ranger115,

It's the silky smooth black hair.  Oh we are off topic again I think hmm.

--

Oh ya, image trick.  Well what if I send cookies to users who I already refer and don't render the img tag upon that cookie being set, that's as harmless as the people who are clicking multiple links at once via the firefox script.

I'm fairly certain the actual hot button issue, that the IT/Server Admins @ Bioware would have, is that there are constantly people trying to access a page on the server, the cookie thought would allieviate this.

Also I don't even know if this works, but "click it or ticket"

It is really annoying how long it is taking them to answer what is going on. It shouldn't have taken two days the first time and this shouldn't take this long.

You wouldn't ask BioWare's clarification if you didn't think it's cheating anyway. Plus, why use it before getting answer from BioWare?

I'm not sure it's working, but you can always add try Monkeyscript to triple every click. Don't know if that works, I have no way of telling.

It does work, but how it works makes sense.

It does redirect to the intended page, the same page that brc/### does.

The reason it wont work in an iframe, image, ect is because the code that handles giving you a token, is javascript.

Oh wait, let's just eval(); that and run it.

Very well and good, and give yourself a pat on the back if you thought of that, but unfortunately we run into the cross domain issues that requests have (Namely, they don't work). It might work on this site, but in the forums I don't' believe that JS file is included, class_promotion.js.

A quick and dirty fix, that turns out to be clean and pretty efficient...
