I'd on that like [insert a rather tasteless comment about asian prostitutes here].

Seriously though, I don't know if my fandom for BioWare can last in this place. Between all this crap with the Bazaar and the constant stream of whining about every little thing that someone might not like about a given game, I'm really questioning how worthwhile a community this is.

They've already lost my fandom and my download for their April Fool's Dragon Age DLC. I might buy another Bioware product, but only if it seems like a good deal and the reviews are good, and maybe when it comes down in price. No more "OMG Bioware" purchases.

Honestly, while this whole experience really has done a lot to tarnish their reputation in my mind, I still realize its not the people making the games that running the forums or the contest. So I'm not going to hold against it against the entire company.

Hnh.  Well, tastes vary- I actually liked the april fools DLC.

Though the amount of approval/disapproval and the stacks of instant +10/-10 does sesem.... broken.  The items themselves are pretty neat, though.

I think it just follows the general pattern of 'pretty cool with serious flaws', maybe?  But yeah, I'm having my doubts as to staying around the social network.  I already don't do the "OMG Bioware" thing, never did... I bought both Mass Effect and Dragon Age on reviews from people I knew, and their old KotOR games because I'd played somebody else's copy first.

True, but the only way for the consumer to have their say is to vote with their pocketbook, so my hands are kind of tied.

I thought this thing was pretty cool when it was first announced.

Then I read the "US only" thing in the rules, and I was surprised they would limit it to one country, but I was still excited.

I think my excitement faded around the time when I had won a challenge only to find out I was still 2000 tokens behind a bunch of people because I wasn't popular enough to get 1000 clicks on my link a day, let alone 50.

The referral link system always breaks down, I don't know why they chose it. Hell, if someone was willing to pay about $50-$100, they could buy the use of a botnet and get like 50,000 unique hits in one day.

Blizzard saw their opportunity to steal me away and sent me a Starcraft II beta invite. They must have saw my loyalty to Bioware wavering. I won't look a gift horse in the mouth, though.

I've decided nothing will come of this until at least Monday and watching this thread is depressing me. I'll continue to get my 50 clicks a day, but I'm not going out of my way to do anything else now.

I agree  100%. I have lost most of my passion with this company.

@ Maviarab :  I insulted you personally?  Can you provide a link?  I'll edit and remove it,  I care a great deal about intentionally avoiding a direct insult to anybody.  Now if you are referring to comments I have made regarding someone's actions then that is completely different.  i.e. just because someone does something boneheaded does not mean they themselves are boneheaded.  As for being said kettle/pot?  I think that being silver is a beautiful thing.

I also go to some lengths to edit out any profane language.  It is more difficult to actually use the English language as it is intended.  But hey, the fact that I made you laugh just made my day brighter.  I think I can die now a happy man.  Mission Accomplished.

@ Mallissin : Awesome, I like the color silver, I think you're Navy Blue.

Yeah, thing is I hate complaining and posting depressing comments 99% of the time, but this lack of communication is getting to be downright fustrating. I hate being a downer like this.

Arg, I need to get my mind off this crap, maybe I'll go play some Geometery Wars, or watch that episode of Mythbusters I have waiting on my DVR.

I've been on the other side of a PR screwup, too; they're not handling it well at all.

Maybe they're hoping things will die down over the weekend, so that there won't be any controversy to deal with on Monday or something ...

Yeah... speaking from past experience on the other side, silence in a situation makes for MORE unrest and discontent, because it implies that you're not doing anything.  Even just a statement of "we're talking about it amongst ourselves" does an INCREDIBLE amount of good in these situations.

Exactly. Any kind of response would be nice, right now it feels like we're being treated like criminals, unworthy of consideration, when all of the concerns we've raised, and compromises we've suggested are reasonable and valid. For the most part we haven't been going around the forums flaming people, or yelling and screaming about it. We've been holding entirely civil discussion about the issue.

None of us are even asking to be let off scot free.
We're repaid for this with silence.

AS I already mentioned previously, i have nothing at all to do with this contest. I'm betting that even if Mr. Priestly wanted to address this right here and now, he is likely not in the office at 2am on a Friday night on an Easter long weekend. It may also be that other people he would have to consult with and/or get approvals and/or information from are also not in their offices at 2am on a Friday night... on an Easter long weekend.

And to address a previous post, BioWare is on Mountain time, which is GMT -0700, so a file modified at 3am GMT Friday morning would have been done at BioWare at 8pm Thursday evening.

No matter how we feel about this, people, let's try and keep the torches and pitchforks in the closets for now and wait until our various offices are open again and people return to work on Monday, possibly Tuesday, depending on what days each office considers a holiday.

Oh, I don't think anyone (or anyone reasonable) is blaming you for any of it; like you say, you're not involved in the contest.  And I'm pretty sure this same set of people isn't really expecting to be told anything over this weekend, for the reasons you just mentioned.  The dissatisfaction is that it's been handled poorly already; to have a 'proper response', they'd also have to have a time machine.

They screwed up the initial response, and because of the timing of that, it's just gonna get worse before it's better.

I don't actually care on the contest part of it, either; as soon as I heard there even *was* a controversy over image code links, I'd accepted I was most likely DQd completely.  I'm just disappointed in the people that do have authority to handle the PR section of this, because it's being done badly, and it generates ill will and difficulties on the forum that you shouldn't have to deal with.  I've had the bosses screw up and be slow on the ball before, and it really sucked to be the one trying to hold a dam down; a large part of my personal dissatisfaction is that the people that made mistakes aren't really going to be that inconvenienced by them, but others are.

Who knows, though? I'm not going to get pitchfork and torch on them, because outright flaming would just be childish, but I didn't see the need to hide my thoughts in discussions on it.  Maybe Monday will roll around and we'll all be pleasantly shocked by a perfect resolution; maybe Monday will come and we'll be acceptably quelled by a reasonable accommodation; but past history suggests that's just not going to be the case.  And from the quality of other things the company puts out, and how you obviously care about the place, that just makes me sad more than anything.

So let me apologize for any posters who try and blame any portion of this on you; they've got no justification there.  And I definitely don't envy you having to deal with the boards right now.

I volunteered for this unenviable task almost 8 years ago. I'm not going to abandon it just because I hit a rough patch now and again, because I love this community so much. Which is why it seems a little strange to see come of the responses from self-styled "fans" of BioWare whose loyalty to the company they purport to love seems to wax and wane with the tides. Maybe I'm one of the few who takes a "for better or for worse" approach to the companies/media/products I claim to be a fan of, but like I always say, "different strokes for different folks." :)

Please don't let the attitudes of the extremists in this (or any) case lessen your opinion of the group as a whole. I love BioWare, and I always will- contest or no contest, and whether or not DLC is out on time. Why? Because I have a plethora of fond memories that i wouldn't have if BioWare didn't exist, and that means something to me.

Your attitude during this is commendable, Stanley, I won't forget it.

First let me say that I appriciate you taking the time to respond, even if you can't give us any real update on the situation. I don't like brining out the torches and pitchforks either, but its easy for us to become fustrated when there's no information--silence only breeds speculation, and those speculations tend towards the negative when we're already fustrated and worried about our situation.

If Mr. Priestly does indeed need to get various approvals before posting anything, perhaps its those procedures that need to be reviewed, as even a "We don't have any real answers yet, we'll let you know when we do" would have been sufficient for many of us, at the very least me--I won't presume to talk for everyone here. As it is, we don't have anyway of knowing that our concerns are even being considered. Its a lot like calling Verizon because your internet is down, and ending up on hold for an hour, only we've been on hold for over a day now.

As it is I've been trying to keep things civil, but its difficult when you're just as fustrated as everyone else.

I can sympathize more than you imagine, being a software developer myself. I work closely with our client support staff, and man ... I could not do that.

That said, I don't think its exactly waxing and waning loyalty, as much venting fustration, in a lot of cases. Again, I can't speak for everyone. I don't think I'd ever stop enjoying BioWare's games just because I feel slighted by something that happened on your forums. I may however, decide to use a snarky banner in my sig
