I can sympathize more than you imagine, being a software developer myself. I work closely with our client support staff, and man ... I could not do that.

That said, I don't think its exactly waxing and waning loyalty, as much venting fustration, in a lot of cases. Again, I can't speak for everyone. I don't think I'd ever stop enjoying BioWare's games just because I feel slighted by something that happened on your forums. I may however, decide to use a snarky banner in my sig

Ditto to that.  If I really wasn't still a fan, I'd just leave. <3

Well, I think it's pretty unfortunate that Chris threw you under the bus when instead of working around the lack of clarity you could provide, he decided to go ahead and take the most extreme position possible, thus putting you under the microsope.

As for the whole waxing and waning bit, I don't really see how you can honestly say that fan loyalty should remain consistent even after mistreatment. The for "better or worse" approach is fine for when a company may not be doing as well or may not be able to deliver a product on time, etc. but not when they begin to stop considering the needs of the community.

Yeah...the whole Chris is out for the holiday thing would have worked, if he didn't make and appearance to lockdown a perfectly informative thread which he should have actually read and considered. So he obviously had time to leave some sort of remark on this issue, but he avoided it.

I still like BioWare and I will continue to buy their games, I'm just a little disappointed in this whole situation. And poster above me is correct- he made an appearance to shut down a perfectly valid thread, and told them to use the current one. I don't see how using the current one would help seeing as how he's obviously not looking at it or possibly ignoring it.

I have an idea. We can all dislike the BioWare Marketing Department, and we can all love the BioWare Developers and Producers. These are two completely separate teams, so why should we pack them into one category? :)

If you really want to see waxing and waning, wait until Tuesday. If you guys really ban half the people like you say you will, then you'll see anarchy.

You know, I've been pretty laid back and jokey about this whole thing.

But now I am OUTRAGED. I am LIVID. I am FILLED with RAGE.

Bioware keeps their pitchforks in closets? They belond in shed. No wonder everything is so confusing around here.

Has the greed for free prizes really come to this? This contest and the quality of BioWare's products are apples and Oranges. They, as a company try to do something nice for the people that buy their games- soon for the WHOLE community, but people are boycotting buying their products now???

Why? Basically because it's human nature to have what the other person has, or be able to do what the other person does. "I want to be first"..."I want to be famous"..."I want to be loved"...

So we have people that worked the system to get LOTS and LOTS of tokens. Do I think that's fair? Not really, and I think they should be held accountable. Yet the majority here are ranting and raving because they didn't think of doing it first.

What I'd like to NOW see is BioWare say "Screw you all, we try to do something cool, and you nitpick and ****. We know our games rock your socks, and we know your not going to be able to resist them, no matter what you say about us as a company- which is also really unfounded. eventually you'll forget about this contest, but we won't. Don't expect to see anything from us like this again....Oh- and if your next CE from us contains a lump of coal, don't be suprised.

I would LOVE to see that, and just get back to playing awesome games.

Did you not read the thread?
Most of us are not upset about the method being declared cheating. We're upset because many of us assumed it wasn't. BioWare took several days to tell us that it was cheating, despite the fact that we asked the first day it started being used.

None of us are asking to be allowed to get off scot-free, only that we be penalized instead of completely disqualified given the circumstance. The negativity has largely been a result of the lack of any sort of response on BioWare's end when we voiced our concerns.

I may had did it, but I wouldn't had did it for greed.  If I wanted to be greedy I'd go make an iPhone game, sell it for a dollar to 10,000 people.

I may had did it because bioware gave me an empty jar, of tokens.  And you know everyone loves collecting things.

I may had did it because I'm a software developer and I knew I could do it and learn a few things in the process.

I may had did it because I thought Bioware would put a smile on their face and say "Those crafty devils how the heck did they manage XX,XXX tokens by Y day."  ( I assume the DBA who checked the totals of the tokens on tuesday/wednesday had a very interesting feeling, either a smirk or a facepalm! )

I may had did it because I may have a degree in doing stuff like this and I may find it enjoyable, like my row of hearts I made, that was enjoyable to me.  ( Do you like them? )

I may had did it because I truly am, a Bioware fan.  There were two places me and 5 others discussed dream jobs upon graduation; Blizzard wich is out of reach, and Bioware - I'd prefer texas, I don't know if I could do Canada.  ( I don't consider myself any more of a fan than anyone else here, I'm just that... a fan )

A computer would be cool cause it's basiclly like winning a case that's custom stamped from bioware, but see I already have a better computer and again I enjoy making them myself.

The laptops, neat but small; you expect me to develop on those? ( Not a mac book pro /flee )

I may had wanted a sweatshirt (my running joke, and guess what; there are no sweatshirts) I probably would have created a contest to transfer my non transferable points to people in a, what I would feel, is a more fair representation of a fan-favorable contest, unlike the current one that hardly judges based on anything but unique referrals.  I don't forsee this idea happening any more.

I can't prove any of this is true, but I hope you can see... It's wouldn't have been about the prizes man. ( At least not to me. )

well, I could understand that except that these exploits were not about spreading the BioWare love. People should have had the option to:

Go to bioware's site

Help you in your contest

or simply click because they like to click things

the trick does none of those things.

BioWare did indeed give us an empty jar. I filled mine by asking my freinds to help out. People that used this trick basically put the jar behind the coin slot and let tokens fall in unknowingly. there is a BIG difference.

That isn't to say your motivations were not pure, nor anyone elses, but if they (BioWare) had asked you to send the link out to show your BioWare love, knowing that you would receive no prizes, or recognition, would people have bent the rules as they did to get the high level of tokens they did?

No.

The main Motivation was the prizes. Very very nice prizes. Prizes people want (or in some cases need) and would do things people normally wouldn't do to WIN said prizes.

Maybe Greed was too strong a word, and maybe YOUR motivation was simply to "see if you could". But I feel safe to say the majority would answer "I did it to win prizes". Going to any ends to win those prizes would be defined as what?

I'm not trying to argue with you, please make it to the end for the direction I'd like to take the conversation, or just point out one of the flaws in my logic; both are viable options ;)

Fair enough, I still feel the the line that people are drawing is funny.

--

No one WANTS to click anything, especially when they are lead to an advertisement. Now send your friends to an advertisement referral page 10 days in a row, they are going to LOVE YOU, ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOU for it. ( I bet by day 6 they just stop clicking. )

To further prove my point no one actually wants to click things, look at the threads now... they are all using addons to automate the process of clicking. If this were an MMO, /reported for botting.

Those threads that are currently considered legit by the current "Rules 2.0" also break your thought process found:

People should have had the option to:

Go to bioware's site
Help you in your contest
or simply click because they like to click things
the trick does none of those things.

If that addon is used:
They WILL go to Biowares site technically, as did the image trick, but they WILL NOT view the content, for long enough that it matters, they wont even get past the age gate in most cases.
They help X number of people, having the option to stop their helping at any point (hope your not at the bottom of that list)
They do not like to click things especially just to click things, that's why they have concatenated a enormous amount of clicks into one click with 30 minutes of set up time.

Honestly, how do you feel about the addon clickers, screw the image trickers we all know their demise anyway.

Hindsight is 20/20. Its easy to say things like "Its obvious this was cheating" after the fact, but beforehand this was not so clear. After all, if it was indeed obvious why did it take days for BioWare to come out and tell us this? Why didn't they say "This is cheating, don't do it" the first time a thread describing the method was closed? This thread was posted to ask that exact question, and the definitive answer didn't come till two and the better part of the third days later.

So while right now its very clear, for several days it wasn't. And again, we're not arguing that it isn't now that BioWare has made their position clear, only that we compromise on how to deal with those of us who unwittingly cheated.

I don't think there was even an announcement. Just some replies to users' posts in a forum many of us don't even visit.

Seems to me like Bioware messed up, and rather than bringing attention to themselves, decided to place the blame on others.

Either that or they are just as confused as we are.

They had several days before easter weekend to respond to THIS thread and plenty of time to say something while they were editing the links. Someone should have called someone and found internet (they don't need to be in the office) to let us know what is going on.
