Allowing it to propagate for three days and then saying nu-uh can't do it does seem a little shameless. Woo calling it questionable doesn't really mean anything. Bioware has done it's fair share of questionable things after all. Give the people time to remove it from their signatures here. That said I think I had it in my sig on this forum for all of about literally 5 minutes, gonna be a bit depressed if that's all it takes to dq me from the auction.
Aye, not being clear and then banning people for doing it is lame, plus doing this means that just about all of the best items will go to people that don't come from these boards, which is terrible from a PR standpoint.

You are aware that this is what you're doing, aren't you? So you would be DQ'd?

I agree with this. I don't frequent the forums but was impressed by the community's effort in the link exchange threads and I have been faithfully clicking in hopes that the favor will be returned. Now I have to lose all of my tokens and hard-earned clicks because I posted an img tag for 20 minutes and got 3 clicks?Lamiea wrote...
You should give people a time-frame to remove it and make a global posting about the new policy. On a related note, how do you clear your signature anyways? I cannot seem to get the IMG-Tag out of my signature. And, yes, now that there is a ruling people should follow it.

We consider this an exploit/cheating and are tracking it. Anyone found to use it will lose their tokens Tuesday morning before the auction begins.
Posting something and asking people to click on it is fine. Posting something that is going to automatically generate clicks for you without reader approval (willingness to click) is in our opinion tantamount to cheating and will not be tolerated.
It would have been nice knowing this days ago.

Fans are the only ones who could truly dedicate their hearts to this contest, now some of them might be alienated.
BioWare should have been more clear about this when the issue was raised.

You can't exactly take down your posts in other forums with the image links. Its not like this stuff is automatic. You actually have to spend a lot of your time on other forums in order to generate those massive amounts of clicks.

All we would like is for Chris to respond, hopefully that former users of this method don't get the "death penalty"

Question, what are the rules against me putting other peoples tags into my signature without their approval, I hope you have a solution for that because I have quite a lot of random people that were in mine, oh hope they aren't upset /kidding.
but what if?

That's a damn good point, if I had even less morals I'd be tempted to make that what if a reality.

Having a clickable link that is text that goes to your referral page, like what Deadbolt has now, is fine.
Having a clickable link that is an image that goes to your referral page, live what Rive Caedo has now, is fine.
Having an image that tries to load your referral page is *NOT* allowed as it forces the referral. The contest is titled "Get Your Friends To Click On Your Unique URL". The key word in that phrase is click. When you put the referral link in an image the person is not clicking anything but is instead unknowingly gives you a referral. We consider this cheating.
This is not a "flip in policy". This has always been our policy that people who try to exploit the rules or nature of the auction to benefit are cheating. Stan posted his personal opinion on the matter as he stated.

Seriously, why is everyone shocked that an obvious exploit is a bad thing?

How exactly, pray tell, are we supposed to tell the difference from "personal opinion" and actual policy on such matters from BioWare posters? Especially when its never stated anywhere that this is in fact a personal opinion?Chris Priestly wrote...
