so people who know rules of html and think outside of the box are being punished...
the way everyone is talking its like everybody used a third party hack or something... which is one thing....

the most important thing here is that many of the users who did use the image method did not see it as exploiting.

its much more friendly than some who post an image as a link that has nothing to do with the contest and we click it...
like if i posted a link that said "free tacos here" and when u click it it goes to the ref link...

thats far more dirty than the image "exploit" which is basically people knowing html. instead of blatant trickery.

Let's not make this any cleaner than it was.  This contest wasn't about who knows HTML.  Part of me is glad they cracked down on this, as I posted before.  The other part of me is pissed off that they took so long to do it that I thought they were okay with it.  This method was never kosher.

Of course. BioWare can declare anything to be an exploit and get away with it, thanks to the wording of the contest rules. I was merely philosophizing.

My reason for eventually using it, whether wrong or not, was that after 2 days of watching it being discussed on these forums, there was no comment on whether it was or was not an exploit. I watched my point total begin to pale in comparison to other people's and still no one was swinging the ban hammer. Eventually, I decided that all the legitimate twittering and posting that had been done was all going to be for naught, as there was no way to keep up with the img people.
After Stanley commented on it, and discussion was still allowed, I assumed they were saying "we don't like it, but we're not going to stop it."
I'm not trying to make excuses for it and if they ban they ban, I wish they would have brought the hammer down as soon as this started though so everyone would have known up front for sure.
Silence was tantamount to complicity in this case.

This is that "herd mentality" I was talking about. I find it difficult to place blame.

To use a very odd metaphor:
There is a big pile of candy.
You are told to get as much candy as you can.
You see lots of people using trash bags to get the candy.
You, therefore, do the same.
3 days later you are told you were only supposed to use your hands and should have ignored everyone telling you to use trash bags

I hate to admit it, but I rather they had announced their "super-secret next-gen title" instead when that countdown timer reached zero.

This whole bazaar has been a rather disappointing affair.

I wish they would just remove all invalid clicks. That seems fair given the circumstances.

You expect a corporation to bow to you over a silly sweepstakes?

But yes, it is only more fair that way.

I think everyone who used the img exploit should get +5 Renegade points and those who knew about it but didn't use it, like Mad Method or makenzieshepard, should get +5 Paragon points. (oh, and those two should get an extra +10 Paragon points for starting and maintaining those link exchange posts)

Also, I lol'd and am totally using that sig VV

Of course I don't expect it, but that's what I would propose in this instance.  I expect the ban.

^^that may be fair but i think it would very difficult, not only would they have to find everyone who used it ( which they will ), but then finding out exactly how many clicks someone got from each 1 im not sure but sounds time consuming

they will get those that used this specific thing on this site.

there are way too many workarounds out there

No. Mr. Priestly has mentioned that they can track people using the exploit on other message boards, too.

And if they do this, there's nothing stopping people from adding links from innocent people, and getting them on the DQ list too.

I'd still like to know how they are going to separate out those who "cheated" and those who could get set up by someone else. As the author of the 30pg URL Exchange I could very easily go on a posting spree and get about 500 peoples tokens removed just find and replace [*url] & [*/url] with [*img] & [*/img] , a quick copy+paste across some popular message board and the forums get burned down by the outraged flames. Even if they removed my post I still got the back up list on my computer. I'm not gonna do it, I'm not like that but if someone did...could you imagine? Would make the "I'm not part of the community" whiners seem like mewling kittens.
