Who is the idiot who thought up of exclusive pre order bonus items or exclusive items for different versions of the game? They all should be released FOR FREE.

Usually DLC like that tends to make the game too easy.

just my opinion of course

Stores not named gamestop did have their own exclusive content as well. Amazon, for example. I imagine the reason they don't offer them as separate payable DLC is part of their agreement with those stores.

That "idiot" was smart enough to get me to buy two versions of the game.

well that's sad that someone would pay $100-120 for something that is worth a couple bucks

The logic stands that used games as a product don't magically materialize and are not able to surpass new game sales.

If we are talking used games then we are talking about consoles. Pirating console games is much less of a problem, not saying it does not happen, it just takes more effort since it requires the console to be modded.

Enlightened? No, I just read what is said by a corporate spokesperson and understand those statements have been though PR sterilization process and have a spin.

Basically the bottom line here is that all these "exclusive" items you guys are so concerned about don't affect the outcome of the game at all. If not having one special piece of armor is going to somehow impair your ability to complete or enjoy the games, you have much bigger issues than corporate America.

Seriously.  I'm not breaking out in hives because my Shepard will never wear Collector armor.

My point is that there is no reason why Bioware or EA or Microsoft would want to encourage people to buy their games used rather than new when buying them new will result in more profit.  And I don't find that nearly as insidious as some people seem to.

It is not about them encouraging used game sales. Used sales will happen, that is a customer decision.
It is not insidious just a shallow and greedy business plan which for some reason EA thinks it is smart to attack the profit margin of a company that sales the most new and used games.

Wait, what company, Gamestop? As far as I can tell their relationship with Gamestop is mutually beneficial. And when people spend the extra money for the new games, Gamestop benefits as well. When has EA come out against retailers?

All exclusive content should become available throw a patch a few months after release, i remember Dawn of War 2 had exclusives too that became available to everyone throw patching. Why? because every customer has the right to a full product and exclusives are just really incentives to buy from a store or another, so after sales stabilize there is no argument to keep them exclusive forever.

I forgot to say the cerebrus card in all new games and gamestop's deal alone would make people who usually buy used games buy a new me2. No need for Bioware to add those things to increase sales because the two things I mentioned would've already done that. It would've been smart of them to put it on the cerebrus network and then they'd say something like "see look at all of these free dlc we are giving you guys so don't cry about us not caring for our customers!!" but in reality it should've been included in the original game anyways.

No. If they were advertised as exclusive, they should stay exclusive.

Well you can already buy the Cerberus card separately.  And I don't know why extra guns or armor should have been in the game in the first place when they were only created to boost sales.

Promotion for preorders. Nothing more, nothing less. Promotes guaranteed sales. Normally you get useless crap, but I guess this is something that you want eh?

Also Bioware is evil because they follow a trend that has been going on for 10 years that even Jade Empire did.

If that suits you then well good for you, go buy another copy of the game because you want a new weapon or armor, thats ridiculous.

creative assembly i think had the right idea with empire total war, took them 12 months and they released the special forces dlc that was the orriginal collectors edition with all the exclusive shop units as a single dlc pack.

id be quite happy if bioware chose to do something similar with their games, release a dlc pack that has the collectors edition items, with the store exclusives after a year or so

I also think that after 3 months it is unfair that they don't release the "promotional" dlc. Who buys the game new now can't get any of that stuff anymore, it's a really cheap move by Bioware/EA to promote initial sales. It should be given for free in the Cerberus Network. It would be really cool for everyone to have the blackstorm heavy weapon, inferno armor and terminus armor.

After a few months they should give it all out for free. But they won't and that is really [bad]. Bad Bioware!

Since I think exclusive in-game items are bloody stupid, I can agree with your desire to have all the extra crap released to everyone. I'm all for things like cloth maps, comic books, making-of videos, etc, but they should be extraneous to the game itself.

I will point out, however, that most of the exclusive content is rarely used, if at all. The lack of helmet toggle kills the armors, and the lack of one heavy weapon isn't really all that crippling.

Except that Dragon Age has a toolset available that allows anyone to give their characters any of the items.

Other than having a deal with gamestop, I don't understand why there should be exclusive items that would require someone to buy the game 4 or 5 times if they wanted all of the items.  The genius who thought up of this should be fired right now becasue they obviously have no idea to please the fans.

It's marketing.

What you're entitled to when you buy the game is the game itself. Bonus content is not an entitlement that comes with basic purchase, that's precisely why people who but the normal version of the game don't get collector's edition swag.

Plus the bonus items are superifical anyway, mere weapons/armour that aren't exactly better than the default in-game stuff anyway.

I really dislike this policy. I'm not that old, but I'm old enough to remember a time when all games were essentially "collector's editions", and had nice manuals, maps, little extras, attractive packaging and what have you.

I really appreciate Bioware's games, and want to support them... But these marketing ploys of Electronic Farts are seriously making me consider never again buying a game with their logo on it. I hardly think it's fair that I, as a paying customer who shows his support for a company by purchasing their games, collectors editions at that, should have a less complete gaming experience than all my other friends who have pirated versions of the game (with all possible DLCs), and do not intend to ever buy it.

Collectors Armor and Terminus Armor look cool. But with the Dr.pepper gear the non promo gear can make better looking sets.
