where is that soulful, haunting Lothering song found anyhow?

Cause I got the CE back in Nov, and it wasn't on the soundtrack.

Then BW apparently released more songs (screwing those of us who pre-bought the CE), but none of those tracks must have it either.

I'm talking about the (?)flute, violin, bagpipe(?) melody that plays throughout your time in Lothering, (except of course for the standard music cues that play during certain cut-scenes).  This music plays nowhere else in Dragon Age; it plays only in the location that get's wiped out, so you can't even hear it anymore.

Anyone know about that song?

Strange that you're asking about this. I was looking for this very same song yesterday. It has to be my favorite in the game.

I wish I knew where to get it though, too. It's not on the soundtrack (as with many others unfortunately.) I wonder why?

Can't you find the file through the toolset and just snag it out of there? *admittedly knows nothing about these things*

I looked for this back then, too, but no luck.

Actually, the soundtrack that comes with the CE basically just has a bunch of big, bombastic, "battle theme" songs on it for the most part... though it does have Leliana's Song at least.

Yeah, I don't know much about it either.  :(

I was able to do limited modding with NWN, KOTOR, and recently, Fallout 3.  But the Dragon Age toolset is too 'unintuitve' to me, so I put it away last fall.

I've
tried YouTube since release in Nov, but never been able to find it.

I've been looking for something like 'listentoyoutube' for sometime. Thank you for the link.

The battle music is cool and all, but why not have every song in the game available? They have that somber clarinet piece from the Dalish Camp, and yes, Leliana's song, so it isn't all battle music... And it seems a little late to release a DA soundtrack part two. :(

I have it for the PS3 so no toolset for me.

One could convert the game music files into something like mp3 or wav -- burn them to a cd or put on the ipod ..

I tried to find the fsb-file that contains that piece of music just now, but couldn't find a Lothering ambient one. I tried a lot of the others (even the VO-directory) but not there either. Anyone knows the right file but can't extract the audio from it?

I used Musicplayer (the last stable version) if anyone would like to searcher further. FYI, the fsb-files are in the Program Files-directory, not in the My Documents-directory.

Is this it? I know Lothering was destroyed but we don't see the battle do we...do we?

Anyway the first part of this music fits the description.

MistySun, unfortunately, no. Not the one we're looking for, but that is from Lothering and a very cool piece. Thanks for trying, though! :)

The one we're looking for plays in the background when you're just casually running around in Lothering. It's just bagpipes and such playing as Grovermancer mentioned. I don't think it actually kicks in until later on after you pick up Leliana and Sten and start doing quests in Lothering. At least, that's when I notice it.

This is maddening!

How on Earth can this music not be found, especially when it's some of the best stuff in the game! (and yet only plays in one location, that you can't even return to)

Do you mean this music?

P.S. I have a new playthrough character in Lothering at the moment. This is the music I'm hearing as I'm running around there.

Search for Miro. If you want to keep a downloaded file, you will have to alter the default settings in Miro or it will be automatically deleted after six days or so.

Yeah, I've never heard of Miro before. I'll have to research it some more. I glanced at their website. Thanks for the tip! :)

To be quite honest i don't remember that music...it is very nice though....but why didn;t we have a chance to save Lothering like we did Redcliffe?

And was that a waste of time...Redcliffe gets destroyed AFTER we save it...was that just to give the player something to do or what?

I have mp3's of these, if you want (2 different versions). You can PM with your e-mail if you'd like me to send copies.

Wow, I can't believe this was found!!!

[smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/kissing.png[/smilie]

Where is this from?  ("OST" means from a soundtrack...  What did this come with?  It wasn't in the CE soundtrack)
EDIT:  I'm asking where was this soundtrack or music file found, as it's not in the CE soundtrack; I know it's heard in-game at Lothering, as I started the OP asking for it
;)

If you're more technically inclined (or at least, if you don't mind fiddling around with command line tools and engaging in a lot of guesswork looking for the specific track you want), you can also extract the .wav files directly from the game using the FSB files extractor 0.2.8, found on this page. Lot of text on that page, so just use your browser to Find "FSB files extractor".

Like most games, though, the problem with doing that is volume. Games tend to break up sound files into a billion small pieces. Certainly understandable, since you don't just want to cut the music off mid-score when the player enters a different area, nor do you want the game to stutter while loading a gargantuan file, but it does make putting the soundtrack together a bit more challenging.

Anyway, in this case, the music in the Youtube video linked to above is actually comprised of about 8 different .wav files, if it wasn't recorded directly through the game itself. Neat.

Would you happen to know what the name of the fsb-file is that contains the audio? I'd like to extract the mp3 to a bitrate of at least 128 kbps instead of the 64 kbps we have now.

This explains why last.fm says that this track is only 02:32 long, instead of the 08:03 we have now.

You can hear it in the bar in Lothering where you meet Leliana.
