First, I want to apologize for posting this thread in here. I had no idea
where to post this and I was going to write some spoilers in my post,
so....I figured this area might be best. Also, I have no idea if
someone already posted this or not, so if so....my bad. :pinched:

Well to begin, I think it would be a great choice if the warden had the
option of having a child. Especially if the warden is married to the
King/Queen. An heir will be needed and back then, people didn't live that long.
(plus the wardens will live even shorter because of the taint) Now I'm not necessarily
saying that the warden has to have the child in the middle of a game, but it
could be addressed in the ending.

I also do realize that the game first addressed that wardens might not
even be able to have children, but if a male warden can get Morrigan pregnant,
why can't a female warden have a child? I think it would be pretty depressing
if the heir to the throne had to come from a mistress or whatever.

I mean, I just beat Awakening today (my character is a female human noble,
married to Alistair) and the ending said she returned to court for a few years.
A few years and no child? She's the queen! It's her job to give the
king a son. It's not like having a kid is going to kill her (at least I hope
not lol). She'd still have some fight in her and even more reason to kill more
darkspawn!

Maybe I'm thinking about this game too much, it's not like it's real life or
anything, but still, back in the medieval times, it was important to have
lineage and children.

Edit: Wrote this in word and then posted in here. Lol at the glitch. Sorry about that, edited it. Dunno how long it takes to take effect.

Anyways, what do you all think? Should the warden be able to have a kid or no? Thanks.

The problem isn't only that it's hard/impossible for Wardens to have children (moreso with each other), but that any child produced would VERY likely be tainted. I don't know about you, but I don't think I'd want to subject an innocent child to that. :/ It could be quite horrible. And it's probably a good thing Wardens (to our knowledge) have never had kids post-Joining.

As for Morrigan, I assume she had help conceiving with the whole magic ritual thing. It wasn't just a matter of bedding Alistair, that's for sure.

If the Warden ever has a kid, I would expect consequences. Of the Tainted kind. Which doesn't mean it wouldn't make a good *story*, certainly. ;)

The male dwarf noble can have a child in the game and make it heir to the throne, though I assume he won't be the one raising it. It doesn't work so well with expansions if the pc had to leave crying kids behind them every time they wanted to go out adventuring for a year or so.

Eh a baby would kill the lore of being a grey warden i mean being a mom isnt a easy job i wouldn't know but my mom never let me hear the end of it but being a mom saving distant lands managing ferelden and god knows what else you'd have a busy life constantly.

Besides i dont think 2 grey wardens can have a baby but a grey warden and someone who isnt infected by the taint could but im sure the taint does somthing to the males sperm. But who knows? Its all up for debate till our sun decides to supernova.

I'd like something meaningful... maybe an inventory slot being occupied by a baby.

I would love for the warden to be able to have a baby.  Fiona had a baby in The Calling, but it wasn't with another Gray Warden.  Unless Avernus comes up with a solution / cure, I don't really think it's possible for a female Gray Warden and Alistair to have a child together because of the taint.

Wasn't that integrated into a game? I can't remember which game it was but I know you had a baby and it was an inventory item.

Aerie had a baby, which took up a slot in your inventory.

LOL Using the console cheat Rhianna and Arie's baby was in my pack.

edited to add -> That was in BG2:Shadows of Amn

:o  Aerie??  From BG2?  OMG!  Now I don't regret never bringing her and Haer'Dalis along at the same time. ^_^

The baby's description was always {player character's name} and Aerie's baby, so Haer'Dalis obviously shoots blanks ;)

Ohhhh, I see.  Silly me, I never played a guy in BG2, so I wasn't thinking about that.  I was just wondering what Aerie and Haer'Dalis were doing in camp while everyone else was asleep, lol.

Yeah, I never played as a man, either. But I did like to play around with the console cheats, so sometimes I'd throw the baby in my pack because it was funny.

You're just not trying hard enough!

I told Leliana we were going to work to get her pregnant and two months later she announced she'd missed her [unspeakable female thing]. She's starting to show and I expect she'll deliver by the next xpac.

Or maybe you could equip it and get a bonus to spirit defense. Something meaningful like that.

Yes, yes.....yes.

Because of the way the storyline was presented to us in Origins with the Alistair/Queen marriage and issue of conceiving an heir,  I thought it would be very interesting subject matter to focus upon in the future. It is just so difficult to assume where Bioware is going with this series after Awakening:blush:.  When I finished Origins, I really thought an expansion would include something along the lines of (for my HNF) a continuation of the King/Queen relationship, issues with conceiving an heir, Avernus' research with the taint perhaps and something more directly influenced by what happened in Origins, considering how the epilogue left off. There seemed to have been a large emphasis on the whole 'conceiving an heir' thing, that I thought that might really be the focus of a future expansion.

This is what I was hoping to see in an expansion. I really hope the writers come up with some future DA titles with storyline continuation from Origins. If not, I just cannot see much future success for this series.

Yeah, I haven't played Awakenings yet, but I truly thought Avernus would be back with a cure for the taint or something.  But I heard that none of the DLCs transferred over to Awakenings.  Hopefully, we'll see Avernus in another expansion.  It just doesn't make any sense for him to say he's working on something good for the GWs and then Bioware just leave it at that and we never see Avernus ever again.

I remember reading in one of the other topics a post where David Gaider commented that 2 Grey Wardens = no baby so that was why I chose not to make my HFN queen, I didn't see a good future that way. (Although I wouldn't have minded adopting a little Teagan baby, cuz it would have been sooooo cute)

Why adopt one? You can make a little Teagannn-baby, and Alistair would have an 'heir' ....

That's why I prefer my female elven mage playthrough just to avoid the marital courting and baby-making. I actually don't mind Alistair having a baby with another woman as long as he has one before his death, I'm all good. Being a mother is tough and a lot of hard work, anyway.

So, no. I don't want a baby. It's not even possible for two Wardens to have one together, anyhow. =]

But I'm tempted to see Morrigan's child....

Yea, me too!

And @ the other's who said 2 grey wardens can't have a child, well it's a game, a fantasy game, anything can happen! :wizard: (Me being the optimist here, lol)

I think it would be REALLY depressing if the King/Queen couldn't have a child. I mean, if you love someone and you're married to them, you  would want to have their children. (at least a majority of people) And if then, they can't have a child, it should be addressed. It should add weight on the King/Queen relationship, making it rocky. Alistair's advisers will want him to have a son, his wife cannot give him one, that would lead to problems.

Like someone suggested, allow Alistair and FHN to have a child and then the child could have problems or something? It could be a miracle child, evil or someting. I dunno. lol.

But....if my HNF cannot have a child with Alistair, I'd prolly want her to die instead. Maybe when all the blights were over (an end to them somehow) she would leave Alistair and go to the wilds and remain there alone and depressed until the end of her days.

Alistair would remarry and have a son, but at what cost! :pinched:
