Wynne's words comes to mind;
Love is ultimately selfish. Being a Grey Warden is about serving others.
A proper Grey Warden would never consider having a child. "In peace, Vigilance". Kinda hard to keep your vigil if you're occupied by raising a child. Besides, the Grey Wardens are supposed to stop the taint, not spread it!

A 'proper' Grey Warden would never consider having a child, really? They are human after all, aren't they?? They can still do 'human things', like eat, drink, sleep, maintain friendships, fall in love, have sex (which leads to making babies). Being Vigilant does not mean you cannot have a life and being a Grey Warden does not require a vow of chastity. After all, there isn't a Blight going on endlessly, is there?

I'm siding with this argument.
If a grey warden can't love and serve one person, how can they hope to love, serve and save the whole of Thedas?

I agree. Also a both of the male Grey Warden's you (sort of) meet in Awakening (Keanen and Kristoff) were married to non-Grey wardens. That means that they could have babies and their wives could raise them, even as the dads go off to be all Grey wardens. Also, Alistair mentioned that there were Grey Warden's with babies from before they became Grey Wardens. Oghren is of course a known Grey Warden with a baby from before he became a Grey Warden and again, his wife is the one who'll do the child rearing.

Like all things in life, it is often the females who get the short end of the stick. Fiona, the elven mage Grey Warden from "The Calling' book, had to give-up her baby by Maric because she couldn't raise the baby and be a Grey Warden and of course she wasn't married, didn't have family etc, etc. I.e. She couldn't stop being a Grey Warden because she couldn't make a living outside of the Wardens but she couldn't raise the baby while being a Grey Warden because she didn't have the support. So she had to give the baby up.

So if you involve some mysterious Tevinter fertility charm... why not? Really I'm just talking about the fact that Grey Wardens never produce offspring together naturally. Unnaturally is an entirely different story." My point exactly, anything is a possibility and would make for a great storyline continuation.

Yay! Thanks for posting- reading this makes me happy. :wizard:
