Hello everyone,

I don't know how well this information is known but I think I found a little tweak on Coalesced.ini that might [opinion]improve[/opinion] the color and brightness of the game. Without having any affect on your frame rate.

- Open your Coalesced and find the line "[Engine.Player]" (no quotes)
- Find PP_DesaturationMultiplier and change its value to -0.XX (XX = number of your choice) the default is 0.0
- If you launch the game with just altering PP_DesaturationMultiplier, the color saturation will make the game look darker, you need to edit the PP_HighlightsMultiplier and PP_MidTonesMultiplier to make up for it.
- All in all, you need to play with these 3 values to get just the right look. PP_DesaturationMultiplier, PP_HighlightsMultiplier, PP_MidTonesMultiplier

Here is an example of what I am using, I am attaching a screen shot of the main menu so you see the difference. I will post up some comparison shots soon.

[Engine.Player]
PP_DesaturationMultiplier=-0.40   [default 0.0]
PP_HighlightsMultiplier=0.60  [default 1.0]
PP_MidTonesMultiplier=0.95   [default 1.0]
PP_ShadowsMultiplier=0.0

PS: if this is too bright you can tone down the brightness by changing PP_HighlightsMultiplier=0.60 to 0.70 or 0.80 [the closer to 1.0 the dimmer it will be]

in-game (gameplay) screens would be better.

Screen saturation levels, Hue, and brightness are more of personal preferance. Personally, I like the original more.

What he said.

The saturation in Pic 2 is also already too much, the picture is too distorted.

Thanks, but a few questions -

do I need a third-party program to edit the coalesced.ini, or does the default Windows XP Notepad work?

Also, while I would like to tweak a bit, I think that the second picture is way too over-saturated and maybe slightly too much contrast. Very small increments (0.05 to 0.10, for example?) to just slightly saturate the colors and dim the highlights would be perfect, IMO.

Agreed. The image tells us little other than it makes a single object more orange.

You can make it still look pretty cool if you have a nVidia card and boost up the digital vibrance in the nvidia control panel

Why don't you just adjust the settings on your TV?

Simply raise the contrast/saturation on your TV.

Thanks everyone for their comments. Sorry for the late response, been pretty busy.
I edited the first post, if you want to see some screenshots go here

I took 32 comparison shots inside the Normandy, its taking time to get all them prepared and up on the site.

I will do Omega next (it looks incredible).

some parts look better but it seems to make light sources look way over saturated

It's a little too bright for me, I would rather see the game incorporate anti-aliasing than make it brighter like this. In certain lighting conditions this could lead to some distinctly odd coloration.

Nice, I'll have to play with this tomorrow. Maybe subdue the highlights a bit so the lighting effects don't over saturate too much.
