Just trying to get into this game.... I'm not even that far in but ever since the patch I crash like crazy and when I say crash I mean the PC SHUTS OFF. Have to repower. Prior the patch I was running fine no issues whatsoever, would play for hours no problems. Now if run 30 minutes I'm surprised. Turned off AA, updated to latest NVIDIA drivers and still nothing. Crash is random, for example, I was getting shut off at the store screen while selling goods?! This is not a performance or heating issue, this is something else.
Running
Quad Core 9450, no overclock
4 GB RAM
X-Fi Gamer
NVIDIA 8800 GTS 512
Anyone got any ideas? Because I was really getting into this game.
PC Version crashing a LOT since PATCH... completely shuts PC OFF

Yeah, it does seem to be something else as you say. There's quite a large thread about ATI cards, mostly the 3870 series, Here's the link
I know its focused on ATI cards, but a few people have said that underclocking thier cards has helped. Its worth a try, you might find something useful there...

INTEL CORE 2 QUAD Q9550 2.83GHZ 1333MHZ (no overclock)
ATI Raedon (Sapphire) 5770 (set back to defaults)
Windows 7 32-bit Premium
8 GB Ram.
Using USB speakers now (but was using ATI card's HDMI during dragon age gameplay)
I was fed up with this game crashing at random parts while I was in usually in combat and giving commands, so I uninstalled it and left it on the shelf until Bioware can find a legit solution. So before, I played for an hour it crashes during exploring or giving my character commands in combat, then I boot up the game and play for 2 mins and it crash-boots, even at 30 seconds after loading a saved game right before the combat started! One time I managed to play for 4 hours straight, but I jinxed myself and it crash-boots at one of the climaxes around the beginning. Basically the same inconsistent frequencies that you have. I tried this game with the patch first: it was crashing annoyingly, and without the patch (after reinstall) the same thing. I lowered my resolution, AA, underclocking, and still the same unpredictable crash-boots in during combat. I updated the ATi drivers and still the same random timed crashes in combat. The funny thing is that even with this game removed from my computer it still does the same crash-reboots into the POST and boots up Win 7 again. Bloody annoying!!
I found out one thing that made this problem kinda go away from crash-booting my Windows 7 while on idle or browsing the Internet, just for now because I did this last night. There is this something in CONTROL PANEL -> SYSTEM TOOLS -> Scheduled Tasks/ Task Scheduler -> and look for something on the list called "RacTask" and disable it. I managed to play Empire: Total War for 7 hours (a popular glitch-crash-tastic game) without a single crashboot (Empire did the same thing before but not too much once every 4 hours). Gonna pop in the Dragon age again and try it out, with tons of skepticism and see what happens. Remember that the 1st patch issued by BioWare is for just gameplay issue, not system glitches. Gonna get back to this thread to update to you the results. Good luck Defcon Dan!
