tali just isn't tali without that mask... just like Master Chief, the mask is the face, removing it is simply wrong.

It's fan art. It's whatever the artist conceptualised in his mind. You are of course entitled to your opinions, the artist has simply expressed his in a medium with which he can share.
What I'm trying to say, I guess, is that it is a picture. We REALLY don't need to be getting into arguments over it.
We are all part of the community. <3<3<3 /hugs.
Well, I thought I was, apparently I'm just British.

But fantastic work. More imaginative, dare I say, than Night Elf lookalikes and the sort. Generational isolation would cause such things as decreased pigmentation in the skin, pale features overall, and I thought the cybernetic dealios were a nice and thoughtful touch.

Those saying "too human" are idiots.
Its a good picture on a technical level.
But its not creative at all, all they did was make her look entirely human.
If you romance an alien, expect it to look like an alien.

It is mentioned in the novel that quarians might look human physically, but in actual appearance they are definitely alien. Now, looking at that picture, I wouldn't say so.
And incidentally, you should be a little more civilized. Because jumping out of nowhere and claiming that those who think what are idiots is immature at best.

Oh, and I know I will get some pissy responses, it just proves my point. Whenever I have 10 minutes of downtime and need a quick laugh, this place really fills that spot!

Quarians have an endoskeleton, lips, teeth, and two eyes with eyelids
and tear ducts; they also have three thick fingers on both hands which
include a thumb and an index finger, as well as three toes on each
foot. Their ears or ear analogues differ in a noticeable fashion from
those of humans, with references made to "what [passes] for the quarian
version of an ear" (Ascension, p. 235).
Yeah, you're an idiot.
Within the scope of the language, about the only things left to the imagination of the reader are the coloration of the skin, minute details such as cybernetic enhancements (or, maybe, bioluminescence), and more specific detail about the shape and proportion of said features. Worst of all, 'definitely alien' could encompass such things as the three-flanged hands and feet. I'd say those are definitely alien, wouldn't you? Glowing eyes would certainly be alien in my State. Wouldn't grayed out skin count as definitely alien? What about their ear analogues? Quite alien, if you ask me.
tl;dr, cram your sermons.

Ummm... no it doesn't. It says the exact opposite, actually. Ascension states that quarians have eyes with eyelids and a mouth with lips and teeth. It makes no mention of any distinctly "alien" features save for their ears being somehow different. Add to that what we can see through Tali's facemask and it can be reasonably assumed that quarians have very human faces.
Seriously, what are people expecting from Tali fanart? Beaks? Horns? Multiple sets of eyes? None of that would mesh with what we know as fact about quarian physiology.

EDIT: I could swear the "definitely alien" description was said about the quarians in Ascension, though. I just reread the novel a couple weeks ago. I'm not sure what Drew was trying to point out, but one can only guess.

THANK YOU a million times for the page number. I remembered but couldn't remember for sure or the section of the book that was in. This should shut all the nonsense about tali's face being more alien or not having a normal mouth and all the resst of that nonsense. Point in case.....Quarians DO have faces that look human and that;s the end of it. Like it or not blame BioWare but that's the way it is and I'm perfectly happy.

I tend to be blunt. It just seemed like an insult to the artist to use that as a criticism, especially based on what we know. I apologize, so on.
And thanks for the acknowledgement.

That being said, kudos to Bioware for bringing such characters to life that illicit such a strong emotional response in their audience. Were they (Bioware) so inclined, I'm sure there are some "interesting" merchandising opportunities to be had there.
Maybe someone can explain the obsessions to me some day......
I hope that artist does more characters/material from the M.E. universe. It was a great piece!

Batarians have, lips, eyes, eyelids and ears, they also have more human looking bodies than the quarians.
Drell have lips, eyes, eyelids and much more human looking bodies.
Yet both these species look very alien, they're still humanoid but in no way are they as human as the picture the OP posted.
Personally I don't think many people in "reality" would find a quarian to be physically attractive.
Ever had a cast on your arm for a few months? Now imagine that except all over, thats what a quarians skin would be like, it would also be incredibly sensitive and pasty due to lack of light and exposure. (but for those who actually like Tali this shouldn't be a problem)
Sadly Bioware ruined the best oportunity to reveal Tali's face (or even just a quarian's face in general) so I think they probably won't ever be showing it and thus these debates will continue
