dont you nerds get it

mass effect 2 was never meant to be an RPG or a successor to ME1. It was a game that was designed to attract the most obsessed 13-16 year old white boys who would gladly ****** their wallets open for $15 crappy DLCs. Qualities of such games include amazing shooter mechanics without any consideration to story.

Well at least Bioware is happy and hope to go they do something productive with their income, so go wait for ME3 or replay ME1

I find it hard to be insulted by someone who has a swastika in their signature.

Hey you never know maybe he is using it for its true meaning which was too be good. Although that doesn't make much sense considering his sig.

well ME 2 doesnt have a replayable story, but I mean it's still fun to shoot things while ducking out of cover and throwing fireballs with alien squadmembers right?

I've replayed it three times already. Sure, it needs some more RPG elements to the game, but overall i thought the game was just fun to play.

Typically, I am not the kind of gamer that replays games. The only games I replay are those that surpass the average quality level of games. Although I haven't played ME2 yet but will real soon, I can already see myself replaying it over and over again - just like I did with ME1.

Nonetheless, I'm sure the OP does bring up some valid arguments. Image IPBImage IPBImage IPBImage IPBImage IPBImage IPB

I recently played ME1 just so I could have different outcomes for ME2 and I totally missed out on a whole cluster and a galaxy here and there which included the Rachni missions! yes ME1 has some good replaybility in that aspect. OP brought up good points to support his opinion however I disagree that ME2 is still replayable for me mainly because I really enjoy the gameplay with different classes enough to replay it. I do agree that ME1 is replayable because of the massive amounts (seemingly) of material in the game. two very different reasons why I replay both games.

The one big thing that BioWare could have done to give this game more replay value would have been to be able to recruit all your companions all at once. Its not like The Illusive Man just suddenly had this need to find these people, he’s had about 2 years to think on it.

It would have bee great to go get Samara first and bring her to Purgatory to get Jack. Could you just imagine her lines she could have had? By the time you get some of these companions the game is practically over. You only get to use them in their loyalty missions. Especially the last one you get, what a waste.

Yes, that is one of the things that annoyed me to no end. But then I found this thread: social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/105/index/1585456

I guess for me, I must one of the minority that doesn't finish a game and then immediately re-play it. Just like I don't finish a book and then immediately start re-reading it.

What I want from the experience of playing is a feeling of immersion. Being totally in a world to feel the atmosphere. Repeat that feeling ad infinitum and, for me, tedium will set in. I want to be 'obsessed' for want of a better word by that game/experience but not continuously involved with it. An intense physical night of passion rather than a longer term relationship, if that makes sense.

Hence I played ME1 when it first came out (and it blew my mind), I played it again as a female Shep with a friend a year later (and enjoyed seeing how it impressed someone else) and then finally again just before ME2 came out (to ensure I was 're-immersed' in that universe)

I guess it all comes down to how people look at games. Halo, COD, GOW will have replayability because of the multiplayer, horde mode etc. For me, Mass Effect isn't the same kind of game or experience, it is about story and feeling. The fact that ME2 went more towards the shooter side of things, and sacrificed some of the ME1 elements, I'm not inclined to be picking up ME2 any sooner than maybe just before ME3.

I'm not slating anyone that does repeatedly replay of course, I'm just referring to my own individual gaming experience. However, I do feel (IMO) that BioWare are more keen to placate people's desire for multiple playthroughs rather than delivering one stand out, knock it out of the park, resonating long after rollercoaster experience.

To compare it to films maybe it's like ME2 is a Michael Bay series of adrenaline filled action scenes (Bad Boys, The Rock) compared to the one whole experience of watching say, The Last Samurai or Gone baby gone. Fine in their own right and delivering just what you want but not quite delivering the all encompassing resonance that you would hope for.

Again just my opinion and I'm sure people can/will tell me I'm talking b*ll*cks!

OP... how about you try replaying ME2 as a "badcop" and a different class?  Hard to say it is not very replayable if you did not try to replay it.  I found taking the renegade option to be very entertaining... and in my second run I did infiltrator instead of vanguard (making for two very rewarding and different playthrough experiences).

ME1 vs ME2.  Both great games... but I replayed ME1 after beeting ME2 twice... and I beat it (ignoring side missions) 15 hours.  My ME2 runthroughs without any side missions are about 30-40+ hours.

Sure ME1 had some large maps... .but they were sterile and empty.  Every level in ME2 was top notch in my opinion.

I have found ME2 to be the most replayable game I have owned.

I did a lot of the side missions in ME1... but I admit that the large majority of them I did because I forced myself, not because I found them particularity fun.  And the worse thing was... the more I did, the more repetative they became, and the less I enjoyed them.  The main missions were fun though.

In ME2 just about every mssion was a lot of fun to play... and the main missions were just out of this world fun.

I loved ME1 and played it over and over again, discovering new things I had missed before, or seeing how changing just my background changed the entire attitude of my character throughout the game.

So, I was really looking forward to doing the same with ME2... and I tried... I really really tried. But I just can't do that stupid scanning mini game one more time! I can't and I won't. It's boring, far too boring. I really started yelling at my TV and finally had to just put the game away and haven't been able to bring myself to play it again. I loved the story, the characters, and was even having a lot of fun with the idea of dragging Legion around everywhere possible for kicks... but that scanning crapgasm seriously makes the game unplayable for me.

Well, my computer is almost as old timey as I am, so I'm relegated to playing anything recent on consoles...

I suppose if I did have a way to get around the crapgasm, I would find the game super replayable and think people were nuts who didn't and allergic to joy and fun. But I don't... so rage...

I agree, in ME1 your crew did the scanning and recovery of X artifacts at times.

I just use the 50,000 starting resources, maybe scanning a bit if I really want an upgrade (such as the 50% headshot damage for my infiltrator). 15-20 minutes of scanning. Sure, I don't get 5/5 on everything, but that just increases the difficulty a bit. I do like the way EDI tells you immediately if there's an anomaly, whereupon you land right there (as opposed to 5 minutes of Mako driving).

I have yet to replay ME2 so i cannot comment on that yet, just waiting for the kasumi DLC to be ready before replaying.

But IMO, DAO is far more replayable than ME1.

I think the cool thing about mass effect 2 is that while mass effect 1 took 4 years to make and had all this sidequest stuff to fluff up the pillows mass effect 2 only spent 2 years making all the important parts and now we get to have 2 years of pillow fluffing through dlc which will probably result in the fluffiest pillow we can possibly get when all is said and done.

pillow analogies are awesome. zzzzz

to me is more replayable then the 1st. ive already finished the game with all classes and started again like 3 or 4 ng+ playthroughs. The only problem is the scanning. in fact i do only some researches for myself and less/none for the squad.

it sort of depends on what makes a game replayable to you.  Sure the story isn't very repalyable, but its a pretty good shooter and that is replayable.  Super Mario Brothers doesn't even really have a story(yes you are resucing princess peach) but I replayed that game in the hundreads of times.  mass Effect 2 is vastly repalyable for all the people who could replay halo a gajillion times or gears of War 2 multiple times ETC.    I can probbaly get 3-4 plays out of it, but I really didn't get much more out of ME1.  The story was good, but how many times can I read/hear the same story?

I've played ME1 12 times and ME2 6 times so far,so I think both games have really high relay value.

Nothing comes close to KotOR for me though, I replayed that game like 25-30 times.

I would say your wrong here, Halo and Gears are replayable because the combat is amazing, ME2 has good combat but not good enough to warrant a replay.  I replayed ME1 3 times and will probably replay ME2 again looking for all the minor changes that I would hope to see in going from paragon to renegade but that is the reason to replay it.   If you're replaying this for game play then you should try some real shooters....

I agree... I've played through ME1 quite a few times but ME2 only once and I got to level 30 in that playthrough so it's not like I feel the need to do it again for that either.

Single-player wise? Could only playthrough both once (although it *was* pretty fun: playing GoW2 with a bud who just recently got back into video games and he was still damned good). But Halo and Gears of War have tons of replayability because of multiplayer and co-op modes. In regards to combat, I've found ME2's to be much more dynamic than the aformentioned two titles, even though Gears of War does the cover system a bit better. Just can't find such a tasty mix of shooter and ability gameplay.
