I purchased Mass Effect 2 from DIRECT2DRIVE on 1/31/10.
I played the game. Finished the game. Awesome game.
I downloaded all of the new DLCs available including hovercraft and outfits
(I even purchased points via PayPal to do this)
Installed the DLCs last night tried to start the game and it said the Disk Couldn't Be Authenticated????
Uninstalled the ENTIRE GAME.
Redownloaded from DIRECT2DRIVE.
Installed this morning. Now it wants me to activate the game ....
Put in my serial. It says SERIAL HAS ALREADY BEEN USED.
(Of course its been used since I already played the game already just fine)
Logged in here and REGISTERED PC VERSION OF THE GAME
Signed in to activation using this account it says COULD NOT ACTIVATE WITH EA ACCOUNT YOU PROVIDED.

I paid for this game ... I paid for content ... Now I cannot play?  WTF?

From what you are saying, it may be more something you need to take up with D2D . . there is no "Activation" step in the normal (hard copy) game itself, that is only added by the digital download retailer. The only similar word that is ever used is "Authenticate", and that also is not the game itself, not at all.  This forum is for Gamer to Gamer discussion of Tech issues, not for D2D support (and there is a specific forum when it is a SITE problem).

We can't sit over your shoulder to guide you, but you also have to be accurate about what you claim is a problem that this forum was intended to deal with.

I'm sorry. Pardon me? The GAME is asking me for activation. I'm sitting here looking at the screen.

This has nothing to do with D2D so I think you are MISTAKEN.

This is indeed a technical problem I am having with the activation of my EA GAME.

EA is asking me to LOGIN and ACTIVATE MY GAME. The game will not allow me to play without this ACTIVATION.

ACTIVATE YOUR GAME: Sign in with your EA Account to activate your game on this computer. I'm not making this up.

Well, then.

Why don't you SIGN IN WITH YOUR EA ACCOUNT?

It's the same account you logged in with to download the DLC.

I DID THAT ALREADY. I am using the same account!

I am logging in with the same account I use on EA. The same account I downloaed the DLC with.

It still tells me unable to activate.

I have already PLAYED ME2 already. The game was fine. When I added the newest DLC all of the sudden it is now asking me to activate the game again. I have already activated it (obviously because I played it and downloaded the earlier content Zaeed etc) When I added the latest DLC suddenly the game no longer activates. I have registered the game on EA. I have logged in with the same account. I have done everything it says to do.

Have you even tried to contact D2D about the issue? Sounds like they should be the one to walk you through this, or it's at least worthwhile to find out if they've been experiencing issues with their activated downloads conflicting with this particular DLC (which has been pretty wonky anyway).

I would contact EA. Either something is going wrong with the game, or something screwy is up with your account. Either way, they're the ones to ask.

EA doesn't seem to want to get back to me on this issue. And D2D says contact EA about activation.

I don't suppose you have any other games that use an EA account? (e.g. Burnout Paradise) That would at least allow you to test that you're able to log in to your EA account.

Here we go, try logging in to your EA account by this page. If it works, then that tends to point to ME2 itself.

I am logged into my EA account now. I'm on the EA site submitting requests for help. I am making sure my game is registered there (it is). I am looking at my EA profile. I am checking to make sure the same email address is used (it is). I am incredibly frustrated and having to wait 2 days for EA to get back to me (if they even do) to play game I paid for is ridiculous.

D2D just gives automated response:

-------------------------------------------------------

Thank you for contacting Direct2Drive Support.

This is an auto response to your choice on our support request.

For any assistance with EA Game keys please visit http://support.ea.com

Direct2Drive is a retailer and does not provide key support to EA title. They will assist you with any activation needs for your game.

Thank you!

-------------------------------------------------------

And EA doesn't get back to me .......... just great.

Hey,

Where are you being prompted to "activate the game"? For example, does this prompt appear during installation, or in the game itself?

If you're being prompted in the game itself, are you talking about being asked to redeem your Cerberus Network code? If you're being prompted to redeem your Cerberus Network code, you should only have to sign-in with the same EA account that you created / used when you redeemed it the first time. Then, the game should recognize you as being entitled to the appropriate content.

If that's the same EA account as the one you're using on these forums, simply go to the left side of the webpage and click Profile | Your Registered Game Promotions to verify that that account is entitled to the content you purchased.

On a side note, did you install the 1.01 patch since you reinstalled ME2?
