I haven't played any of the predecessors to this game and am wondering what kind of in-game objects are there, what can I buy and sell and what might I be able to find? Also, are there any random spawns?
So there are weapons and armour, many different types.
What about spells, do they need certain materials/objects to use?
Thanks.

Spells use mana, not materials.

Hence why I'm asking the questions, like I said I haven't played this type of RPG before and would like to know more. Cheers.willtraverse wrote...

Right...you asked, so I answered. That's usually how it works.

In tune with other RPGs, yes, there'll be plenty of weapons and armor.

What about things other than weapons and armour? Thx

There are also accessories like rings and amulets, and healing potions, traps, magic ammo for ranged weapons, runes for augmenting equipment, etc.

Well, there will be other sorts of loot, like potions, and presumably things that exist for the sole purpose of you selling them for cash (gems).
Check out some of the gameplay videos for examples - the giantbomb Quick Look has a few shots of a nice packed inventory.

Probably potions/herbs and the typical fantasy RPG jazz.
Gold. It's just normal things you'd expect to find if you travel back 500 years and have dragons and darkspawn and everything...

I'm guessing here: haven't seen a list.
There are crafting skills, so there have to be crafting components: herbalism, trapmaking, poison-making. Probably lockpicks, to go with the rogue's talent.
Besides that: armor, weapons, jewelry, probably quest items. Potions certainly, maybe spell scrolls, but I haven't seen anything about those.
If it's like other RPGs of this type, there won't be a lot of random stuff you can put in your inventory and sell if you find it... like the jugs and cups and plates and brooms and so on you find in the Elder Scrolls or even Gothic/Risen RPGs. My guess is that pretty much all you'll find is stuff a party member could conceivably use, and nothing just for resale.

Thanks for the responses. When you say about things to make spells/traps/poison or whatever, are these things that you find randomly out in the world or can you only buy them off certain people?
I've really been undecided about getting this game but atm am thinking to just buy it. It sounds good and the type of game that I want to play; if I don't buy it then I'm sure I'll be missing out. The trailers are what really sold it to me, they look incredible!

I'm going to say both.
Judging on past RPGs, you should be able to scrounge them off chests and stuff in dungeons as loot and the like. Also nearly every RPG has a rudimentary bartering/market system to buy stuff.
And lastly you should definitely get this game, it's probably the only RPG out this year that's worth getting and one of the best games definitely. Especially with all the other good games being delayed to Q1 '10.

I'm sure I will buy it. There's a lot of games I want that are out around now. But I've kind of decided on DAO and Demon's Souls which I've ordered and is on the way from Hong Kong. Then if I've got some money left I may go with Assassin's Creed 2 (or UC2 or MW2 but most likely AC2!).
