Sorry if this topic has been made before, feel free to refer me to the clone and I will delete this one.

But I was wondering if you guys think that in ME3 alot of the ME1 features will return? I'm honestly only about 30% through ME2 and getting disenchanted with it. The incessant need to glue yourself to cover bothers me, the lack of an RPG style inventory bothers me, and the fact that I've still not found a new sniper rifle in 23 hours of gameplay is super annoying to me.

I sort of feel like they took away the PC aspect of the game and made it an xbox game, which is weird, because the original was actually an xbox port. The first game just felt sort of, I dunno, more "deep" to me. It definitely wasn't as polished, but that's part of what I liked.

What I'd like to see in ME3:
-RPG style inventory system
-More in depth leveling system
-Less cover humping
-The ability to jump
-The ability to hit J for my quests instead of Esc -> Quests.
-Less linearity on missions.
-Explorable planets, not 5 minute "anomalies" even if it's at the expense of some of the planets being a tad generic.
-An exploration vehicle like the Hammerhead, but used much more extensively.
-Complete removal of the planetary scanning system
-Replacing "upgrades" you find with actual pieces of gear, perks, talents, etc.
-Being able to equip my squad with hundreds of pieces of armor once again so I can change their looks (but this limits BioWare's ability to milk DLC cash, so meh..)
-Many, MANY more skills.
-Hitscan bullets or improved bullet travel time, if the game is going the way of a shooter.
-Toggle helmet ability back.
-Grenades. Not the lame inferno grenade, either. Why were these removed?
-Ability to skip EA\\\\BioWare logo when I load the game
-No homing of abilities.
-The ability to be in cover with a sniper rifle and shoot a fireball without having to scope.
And the last, MOST important one...
-Please, PLEASE stop making all my abilities share the same cooldown! I'd rather even have the 30 second ME1 cooldowns at the expense of this! It's ridiculous that you can't use all of your things.

I love ME2, but I feel it has more problems, somehow, than ME1. I still will continue to play and finish the game because the storytelling element is MUCH improved and so is the pacing of the game.

I reckon that BioWare will try to reconcile the best of ME1 with the best of ME2. By the best I mean the stuff that clearly stands head and shoulders above it's counterpart system in the other game.

From ME1:

- The exploration (but perhaps with some small, remote colony worlds not central to the main plot)

- The more advanced inventory system (although without making it more complex than ME2's) in the form of party customisation and more weaponry modification, just without the clunky and annoying interfaces of ME1

- The larger city spaces, or at least a larger Citadel (reckon the Presidium will return)

-

From ME2:

- The tighter, more linear storytelling with better character development

- The greater variety and number of city worlds, and more detail on unexplored worlds

- The action mechanics, pace of combat and "feel" of weaponry

Reconciling the best of the previous two should end up somewhere in the middle. Streamlined, but not stripped.

How is linear storytelling a good point? It reduces replayability while going against one of the key points of the RPG genre; having a say in the story.

I personally hope they will try to merge AND improve the features of the two games. The variation between classes kept great like in ME2 (in ME1 an Infiltrator was pretty much 85% Engineer and 85% Soldier for example, while the Engineer and Infiltrator are vastly different in ME2) yet the more numerous skills and levels of ME1 brought back, the improved gameplay/shooter aspect of ME2 improved to compete with popular FPSes like COD6MW2, the item/armor/weapon system of ME1 with a few improvements brought back and the atmosphere/freedom/complexity of ME1 being used.

I prefer RPGs where I revolve around the story, rather than have the story revolve around me. Theres very little immersion in a story that revolves around you, unless you happen to be narcissistic.

What do you guys think about the hitscan\\bullet travel point I made? That's one of my main gripes. Hitscan is instant travel of bullets like in Valve games and Call of Duty. It'd be really handy as the infiltrator, especially.

Interesting couple of links:

Take what you will out of them. Personally, looking at the complaints of planetary scanning, who really wants boring repetitive tasks to perform. Yes I've played all sorts of RPG's on both computers and pen and paper for 30ish years. With both, getting bogged down with things like inventory slows the game down when the core features should be immersion and story telling.

1 - No...it makes no sense to run around with magic pockets....keep the
inventory on the ship.
2 - YES PLEASE
3 - I'd prefer stronger shields, b/c sorry, but taking cover actually makes sense. Unlike in ME1 when you could run around in the open and mow everyone down like you were playing halo. That was terrible!
4 - Could live with or without jumping... what would be the point?
5 - PC only problem... don't care
6 - Yes, but I don't want the graphics to suffer for it.
7 - Dear god no! I could not ****ing stand the copy/paste planets/buildings in ME1... by the third playthrough I began always skipping every side mission... too damn bland and boring. We're not playing on the ninetindo 64 anymore, I don't want any levels looking remotely the same.
8 - I wouldn't mind exploring with vehicles as long as it's not copy/paste style places that I'm exploring.
9 - No, there needs to be some kind of mineral retrievement system... I don't want just pushing a button like in ME1... god, that was boring. *pushes A* oh wow, I found minerals! How ****ing lame is that? At least scanning/probing sort of made sense.
10 - YES! I want something like the system in Kotor where when you found upgrades you went to a workbench and actually installed them and the upgrades could change the way your weapon/gear would look. Think about how awesome that would be in a game like ME.
11 - YES! I like to have my team wear different gear but the same type color scheme so that they look like a team. lol
12 - Definitley... that's always one of the most fun parts of RPG's .... leveling your character and choosing from a wide variety of skills and abilities... NOT just 5 or so.
13 - I don't really know what you're talking about here.
14 - Sort of, I want a button that you push to actually see your character take it off/put it on... just like how you can pull out/put up your weapon. That way you don't have helmets just popping on and off... that just looks stupid imo.
15 - Could live without them.
16 - I'd like to add in the ability to skip any cutscene that you want... ESPECIALLY the opening cutscene before a character generation screen b/c when you're trying to get your shepard to look just right, it's damn annoying to have to watch a 10 minute opening EVERY time!
17 - eh
18 - I agree
19 - NO, I like to be able to use abilities in quick succession... not having to wait forever once I've used them all.

I also hope they will merge the positives of both games and improve upon them.

I understand that with 12 squad members, they had to steamline the inventory system but I hope they add a bit of complexity to ME3

Same goes for skills

I agree with the point of the OP, regarding cooldowns, individual cooldowns are better.

However my most important request for ME3 concerns the story. I understand they had to keep the concequences of differing decisions to a minimum in ME2 to avoid to many permutations for ME3, but I hope hey'll spread it out for the last chapter. I also hope they'll give te old ME1 characters more screen time.

Oh and now, having tested the hammerhead (which is awesome), I hope they also include some planets that really combine wide area vehicle exploration and fights on foot (like e.g. herum in ME1.

Yeah, Therum was a really well designed planet. As for hitscan (since someone doesnt understand it) it's a system where the bullets travel to the target instantly rather than like magical little pellets that move 20mph like in ME2.

I think that the RPG elements only need to be expanded to make ME3 the best. Everything else was an improvement by far. A bit more Epic story would be nice too.

NO!
