They came from the same planet. The facial markings are the symbols for the individual turian colonies, IIRC.

actually the facepaint isn't exactly the same, Nihlus has some additional lines compared to the councillor

Not fond of that picture myself, but what Tali looks like under the mask doesn't mean a whole lot beyond "They have roughly human features."  Every quarian female in the game has the exact same untextured, low-poly face.  Still, in terms of general anatomy, they do indeed look something like that.

I agree. Prove it. Any view of her face you get is distorted by the visor. Transparent convex surfaces are notorious for it. The nose for instance will appear larger than it actually is. With a camera lens you can experience it at the wide end particularly on a head shot - it's called barrel distortion.

Well, for one her eyes aren't glowing enough to show through a dark visor. Her skin tone is too dark for someone who's lived in a suit her whole life. Also If you remember one of the talks from grunt he says that quarians aren't soft like humans, salarians, or asari. So the skin features are out. Quarian feet suggests either amphibious or reptillian origin. The former is unlikely given that Rannoch is more arid than earth. The latter would make them more similar to turians,drell, and krogan, however I believe they lack dextro DNA. So at the very least they must have tougher skin/features, Stronger bones, and very pale skin.

And the Tali fanboys show up. Somebody who knows biology come in here and do your stuff. As if what you can see under the helmet wasn't clear enough...

Space-elf nonsense is pure fanboy drivel. Quarians have three fingers and two toes for crying out loud! If you honestly think they look anything like humans your insane, and if Bioware does such a thing I for one will be dissapoint.
