It happens. I spent a good 2 hours searching google and bing looking for my current backgrounds when most of them were already in that link there. I have my backgrounds alternate between all 12 squadies, Joker, maleshep and TIM.

Use the save editor to change Shepard's gender mid-game. Very easy to do on the PC. Some effort to do on the X360 (requires transferring a save to the PC by cable). AFAIK not possible on the PS3.
