It was at first. I'll be blunt, Churchill was failure at everything he had tried. But right when Britain needed inspiration, he and King George were there. In oratory class at university, our professor made this point. No one bothers listening or quoting to Hitler and Stalin's speeches anymore, because they are boring. Churchill made a simple point, that the only way forward would be blocked by hardship, but the British kept going regardless. That speech is still quoted today

Hitler's plans to invade Britain were foiled time and again by the heroic efforts of the Royal Air Force, the Free Polish Air Force, plus volunteer forces from Australia, New Zealand, India, Palestine and other parts of the British Empire. Which is why when the Reaper's get here..........hold on, just had an awesome idea.

We must have had different History teachers. Mine said that Churchill was good, but Hitler was amazing. His speeches were so energetic and powerful. How else do you think he persuaded a country to go extreme right wing, begin a world war only 20 years after losing the last one, and bring an entire ntion to hatred of one race?

But Stalin was terrible. Good old Comerade Filing index.

And here is my early morning, after only one cup of tea contribution.

Wrex: Shepard.
Grunt: Wrex.
Shepard: Grunt.
Grunt: Shepard.
Wrex: Grunt.

Or something along those lines. I like your solution to such a problem. :o

That's 'cos Hitler had perfected the art of the long pause. Himself a short man, Hitler would ascend onto these huge stages, and wait for up to five minutes. Then he would begin slowly, and build up into a massive crescendo, with drums, and tribal chants etc.

Good showman. Yes. Charismatic? Without a doubt. But he had neither the honesty or the inspiration that Churchill and King George put into their speeches.

Not to derail the topic, but Hitler and Churchill were only good in two things: Rallying crouds!
Both were charismatic and could speak like it was some superpower. You got to give them that, no doubt about that. But other than this, they didn't really had other substantial talents.

So, and now let the Motivationals come again!!!

And also, embarrassingly for us, Churchill was n't the nice chap he was cracked up to be.

In these dark times, we need a man who will lead us unflinchingly.

A man who will never shy away from tough decisions,

A man who will lead the British, the Earth and indeed, the galaxy to victory

We need...

Churchill doesn't have much experience of being invaded

I'll take Battle of Brittain for $100 Alex.

Though I was thinking more of his speech he gave in light of if the Germans (Because their political offiliation of that time gets "bleeped" out) came in via land - "We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender..."

Dunno if I would class a fight for aiir superiority as an invasion, but yeh fair play, it was a set up for an invasion.
My main beef is Churchill hero worship, when tactical decisions would have been made my military commanders

Bah, the awesome quote I was going to use was too long (stupid photobucket. >.>).

Better find a shorter awesome quote by the man, or find a different leader.

Well, if the Luftwaffa had gained air superiority in the Batttle of Britain,  then an invasion from across the English Channel would have been pretty much inevitable. So, yes, it was actually pretty important.

Furrther, you do realize the Battle of Britain was was essentially a fight to see who would break first. So Churchill's actions, such as his "We Will Fight Them" speech, was fairly important in keeping morale up, and making sure that despair didn't set in in a long, bloody siege by air. Was he making combat decisions? No, probably not, and I can't claim to know a whole lot about the combat situation during the campaign. But his contributions to the general morale were important.

That said , enjoy the undying meme.

Yeh I accepted that it would count as a precursor to an Invasion, and an important precursor. I don't claim to know everything about the Battle of Britain, but I churn inside whenever Churchill is called the best Prime Minister ever; morale is important but he far from won the war

Churchill was the right Prime Minister at the right time. Some leaders have their strengths and weaknesses. Would I call FDR the best American president ever? Not by a long shot, and we're still feeling the side-effects of policies he put in motion now. However, his oratory skills connected with the nation and helped him gain his 4 elections through the Depression and the war years. (i.e. the "Day of Infamy" speech or his fireside chats.)

Now, I haven't studied Churchill deeply enough for his domestic policy (whatever policy he was able to create with war on his doorstep.) but I do respect him and other leaders for keeping their country and the war effort alive until Hitler was stupid enough to engage the Russians and the US started to overtly reinforce Britain.

Hey doc, I'm trying to understand where my unhealthy desire to be best friends with freaky aliens started. I mean I used to be totally normal, and then all of a sudden... give an alien a weird face and an awesome voice, and I go crazy.

Your Spitfires did some real damage on our Messerschmidts. Well, this time around we'll fight on the same side but i think we wont be able to save London without the help of the Swedes. They'll use the citadel as a can and the Reapers will be made into "surströmming".
