Bioware is holding up very well (and will very possibly win against Blizzard) for the simple fact that Blizzard didn't release anything remotely decent in several years, while Bioware continued to pull out AAA masterpices at a costant pace.
Luckily not everyone is hung on the past.

This thread is about bioware and blizzard, I can post my opinion. Just because it is not popular opinion doesn't make it "trolling".

I'm not saying BioWare is a bad company, I like their games too. They just don't match up. IMO.

No problem. You might not want to use the term "ripped off", but that's clearly semantics. If you look at their IPs, the only one that you can really  call original is also the most banal, shallow and forgettable (Diablo).
This testifies a lot (and not positively) on their ability to create an original game world.
Mind you, I'm not criticizing Diablo's gameplay, but it's backstory.

You wouldn't be wrong to critize Diablo's gameplay either. As fun as the game is, lets face it "click on enemies till they die" isn't the deepest gameplay mechanic I've seen.

LOL. Given that I got starcraft on it's release day, It's very possible that I know about it more than you do. You're trying to paint exceptions between the millions of people that played starcraft as a rule, and that's blatantly false. Mind you, most of the people that bought the game played the single player campaign, found it dull (as it was), and thought nothing more of the game.
Even between those that actually went to play online, the ones that play at "pro" level are a vast minority, so yes, they are the exception. Live with it, the only one making false statements here is you.

No, but it's fun, and that's pretty much enough. For sure not the best game out there, but it's also not one of the worst.

Actually a diablo clone, nalemly Record of Lodoss War for the Dreamcast, ended up being better for me, because it paired the same gameplay with a very good story based on a  better IP.

Ya and you were probably one of those people who played the singe play campaign and thought nothing more of the game. You clearly have no idea. "pros" aren't the only ones who play without the custom maps on bnet that have led people like you to consider it a "unit mass" game. It's just an ignorant statement by you, face it.

Aye, it is mostly a semantical issue. Though i think that saying that SC = WH40k is wrong cause while the connections can be made i think that SC borrowed heavaly from a lot more sources then Warhammer. Then again GamesWorkshop has also been known to "rip off" ideas. -shruggs-

next set of monsters to kill?

Mind you i like Diablo - or well D2
- but that dosnt stop parts of it from being not so awesome. Did i
think it took away from the game? Naw, not really but then again i played it for the hack and slash. And somehow the level of the story was just right to give the illusion of there being one without letting it getting in the way of my hack and slash ^^

That's exactly my point though. I like Diablo, and will definately be picking up D3, but it really doesn't compare to BioWare's accomplishments. Just like their IP's and storytelling doesn't. I'm not trying to dis Blizzard here, and I think BioWare vs. Blizzard is a great matchup. I just think BioWare is the obvious choice.

Yeah I guess i agree, but valve is a very nice developer aswell.

Not really. I played the single player, then played the multiplayer a couple years, then, like the vast majority of gamers, I realized that the market was starting to offer much better games, so I moved on.

I clearly have an idea, "pros" and the wannabe "pros" are the vast minority between the millions of people that bought Starcraft (and that will buy starcraft 2). 1% if already a very optimistic rate.

Im not saying that Blizzard should be beat by Bioware (I do LOVE Diablo II) I just believe that Bioware has done more in the last year than by releasing patches for its cash cow. Had this been a contest involving the last decade, Blizzard would have won hands down. Personally, Im more of a fan of Funcom (Anarchy Online ftw!) 

Oh, and your the ****** for trying to voice your opinion of Blizzard games in a Bioware "fanboy" forum.

*edit: Btw, i am voicing this opinion of Blizzard on Diablo and not starcraft. I have played many RTS's, but i have never gotten the chance to play starcraft (nor will I)

After that poorly cooked scam that was Age of Conan, all my respect for Funcom has gone down the drain, I'm afraid

i'm going to be VERY, VERY wary before spending money on the secret world.

And there's only one blight. It's named Zynga. No matter who wins this round, i'm going to vote for whoever goes against Zynga, seriously.
If Blizzard happens to manage to win (not very likely, but I don't put it beyond Blizzard to start advertising directly in game if things turn dire for them), i'll plug my nose and vote for them.

The problem was not that AoC was terrible, but the fact that they purposedly polished only the first 20 levels in an attempt to get favorable early reviews and as much initial subscriptions as they could.

I can forgive a software house that makes a poor game once in a while. S*it happens. But making a poor game and trying to scam me? That's much less forgivable.

I appreciate blizzard for making games with really great gameplay but despite their resourses they really slow on making new stuff and yeah all the titles look ancient now. Plus their milking methods are outrageous.

Bioware from the other hand is a hard working team, giving us top quality games quite often. If for any reason (EA) they wont go astray many glorious days are ahead of them.

if the whole hardcore gamer community really rallied behind whoever won between Bioware and Blizzard I'm pretty sure that we'd send the crapfarmers back to facebook to plow their virtual orchards.

Kick their arse BioWare they deserve it for taking nearly 12 years to bring out StarCraft 2 and Diablo 3... I'm a pre-BC WoW player and they should have let it die before BC came out so they could get their AAA titles out finally.
