And to throw out a apology I just kinda have a pet peeve of the whole "X is like Y so X is bad"
I try to judge things on what they attempt to be not that there are things that are like them, or that something simliar came before.

I have bought RTS games for the story.
Proof and point Warcraft 2 and 3. I like the previous installments, the gameplay, and wanted to know where the story would take me. Try not to make total generalzations of EVERYBODY EVERYWHERE.
Also saying WarCraft 3 was a rip from StarCraft is like saying DAO is a rip from LOTR. On the surfaces and some of the cliches are the same but when you get down to the meat of it... theres plenty of differences.
Kerrigan from SC was not twisted and deformed to willingly choose to become a Zerg like Arthas was. I could go on but it will just fall on deaf ears.
kerrigan was pratically sylvannas
please tell me you got that similarity, many MANY people did.
and it's true while there are many differences. Difference setting from sci fi to fantasy, new or ommited characters. But the main storyline is basically the same, blizzard writers simply had more time to work on this than starcraft 2
anyway, blizzard writers then started to retcon the story, but the point is that both stories are pratically the same.
Odd because the more common one in my experiance is the Arthas/Kerrigan comparison. Ya know since both are taken in by the "bad guys" and becomes a major antagonist. Where as Sylvannas actually works to bring down the big bad in whatever way possible. Kerrigan was a B list character turned A list antagonist. Where as Sylvannas was a B list charater who stayed a B lister.
"pratically the same" is a worthless arguement. Many things are "pratically the same" but still do it in their own way to be enjoyable. Chocolate Icecream is pratically the same as vanille icecream but they are both good. Oranges are pratically the same as tangerines but offer different flavors. Countless books, movies, games, tv shows, music, etc etc etc... are pratically the but it is the execution that matters.
If all you want to do is focus on the most basic and superfical off things then you might as well start saying all new books, movies, games, videos, music, candbars, gum, cars, etc etc etc... are bad because there were books, movies, games, videos, music, candbars, gum, cars, etc etc etc... that came before them.Masticetobbacco wrote...
well mcdonalds is pretty good man
I love the hashbrowns. They are travel friendly not like what I can make at home.
what I meant was the main ideas of the SC story were modified to create the WC3 story
the tangerine- orange comparison is EXACTLY what SC and WC3 are like, thanks for giving me a good example
and big mac > all

Waffles!!!1!!
I'm trying to be back on topic now. What's everybody's current impression of TOR. Optimistic? Pessimistic? Apathetic? .......just pathetic?
I personally just don't think they're going to deliver what I want in an MMO. That obviously doesn't mean it'll be bad, just that I won't like it.

FYI if you going to get it treat it like EVERY OTHER MMO (and generally video game) new release. Give it a week and try to read up on it.
No MMO startup goes well.

if anything dragon age is bioware's answer to diablo.
and yes there are many diablo clones, but of all of them the only good ones are titan quest and dungeon siege.
WoW set the MMO standards for the entire world. SWTOR would have to have amazing gameplay, top notch graphics (for an MMO), and the financial resources of an international company (probably why they chose to suck EA's coc.k).

Torchlight, fool. Clone that's BETTER than the original. (Which makes sense... it's from the people that made Diablo.)

people don't really play MMOs for a storyline, more for the gameplay, pvp, and social interaction.
many MMO claim that "lolololoololololol players get to shape their world through their actions" but that is really epic bullshi.t. In WoW, some random players killed a boss, WoW writers write" lolz boss is dead, but A CHALLENGER APPEARS"

Even Warcraft started introducing dynamic interactive role-playing with their last Expansion Northrend.
And you can compare any story and find many similarities. Try comparing the Book of Genesis with anything and you might be surprised. Saying SC is a futuristic Warcraft is like saying Dragon Age is a Fantasy version of KOTOR. I believe what matters is if it is fun and enjoyable. I hope to find Diablo 3 and StarCraft II to be fun, and I expect Cataclysm to be fun too... for a couple more months until SW:TOR is released.

We're going to have to seriously rally the internets if we want a shot at taking down Zynga. Who would have thought a bunch of facebookers would even be hanging out at the Escapist, as I can't imagine any real gamer voting for them.Wardog15 wrote...
You guys make sure you vote next round too, we are either going against Valve or Zynga(makers of such classics like Farmville), and it is looking like Zynga is going to win that one since they are getting their drones from Facebook to vote. While I would be fine with Bioware losing to Valve since they are a great developer as well, but to Zynga!??! Hell No!
The fact that they're taking down Valve pretty handily is !@#$ing depressing.
