Hi there.
I'm really liking this game but there's one thing preventing me from fully getting into the whole development of your character; Armours. Specifically which armours can be used by which classes.
That question annoys me because from what i've seen so far, there aren't any real restrictions on armours, basically all classes can wear any armour aslong as their strength is high enough (there are a few exceptions but nothing major).
Is this really true? Is my rogue more or less required to put points into strength inorder to equip better (heavier) armour? :s

Here is the deal with Armor/Defense in this game.

The first thing to remember is this isn't DnD where Armor is the end all be all.

So armor provides straight up defense and at the heavier types damage reduction against piercing and slashing weapons (Swords, daggers, axes) However Blunt weapons just straight up hurt.

Dex provides Defense as well at a different rate then armor.

In my game I just finished I had Alister wearing the Warden Commander's Armor which gave him plenty of defense and meant about the only thing that took him down was an ogre beating him into he ground. Where my rogue had light armor in the form of Dragonscale armor. She also would only get beat into the ground by an ogre.

Essentially there are two paths to defense. Dex or Heavy Armor. Dex allows you to go with cheaper armor (aka lighter) but works best with archers, dual wielders as they get the most out the high dex. Heavy Armor requires such a high strength that the people who benefit from it the most are the Sword and Board or Two handed weilders.

Not to mention that armor type effects aggro. Massive armor draws the most aggro, light armor the least.

There is a third path of defense...but its available to one specialization of one class...Use Magic Stat in place of strength for an Arcane warrior...plus buffs...

So, there really aren't any penalties associated with wearing heavier armour except the aggro management? (is that even verified btw?)

Reason i'm asking is that i've always played rogue characters, a class that is traditionally "limited" to light armor because anything heaver results in penalties to stealth, dodge etc. but these don't exist in DA:O?

Yes there are...Heavy/Massive impose a penalty to attack rate for bows I believe..and the heavier the armor the more skills/spells cost to use.

I am not sure how it works exactly (mathwise) but fatigue plays into wearing heavier armor for rogues and mages. It messes with stamina/mana regen and cost I believe...
