Please follow the instructions in this thread.

At first brush it sounds like you might have a problem with your power supply. However, it could also be just a system (Windows) crash if Windows is set to restart, which could mean something much less bad, like your drivers are handling failure poorly. Hard to say when you haven't posted any specs.

(Under XP, you could test whether it's a system crash or something by going to Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> Startup and Recovery Settings -> uncheck Automatically Restart. Once the new setting is applied, running the game would give you a Blue Screen of Death instead of just a restart if only Windows is being brought down.)

No, sorry, but there never was any "X1700" Radeon video card for any desktop PC.  There were X1600, X1650, X1800, X1900, and X1950 cards from the X1n00 generation.  Neither the X1600, nor most of the X1650s were strong enough for the game (and the X1300 is still weaker than those, along with the mobile version, X1400, which because it's a laptop part, is unsupported).

There was an "X700" for desktop PCs in the previous generation, but none of those Radeons could handle all of pixel shader SM-3, so they cannot be used.  You need to provide better information, and also include the DATES of the audio and video drivers, as well as the name of it, per Chris' instructions.  Ancient drivers add complications of all sorts.  Let's follow up with the missing information, right?

It very likely amounts to the very selfsame thing.

Sorry, your negative attitude would seem to indicate otherwise.

(Edit: just in case that initial response was somehow unclear, failure to follow through is a negative attitude about PC Requirements.  It's not a console game, it's a PC game we were discussing.  Chris' instructions are simple enough for anyone to follow, if the respondents are actually interested in obtaining useful answers.)

The "Serious Problem" just evaporated!  (Wasn't important enough to expend any effort following through on.)

In spite of reminders about what is needed, the OP had to send a PM and be a boor, but is seemingly too lazy to do what is required to complete his question.

Are we sure this wasn't just a bad joke? He did post this on April 1st.

It's the day after, and I have seen no retraction of the foolish PM I received.

Get another gig of RAM, when I first bought ME 1, I had the same problem, then when the game would finally start, I would get the infamous general protection fault error. I was running a Nvidia 6800GT and 1 GIG of RAM. I got another GIG of RAM, tried ME1 again for sh*ts and giggles and it ran with no problems. (All drivers were up to date as well)

I've been reading this for as long as it's gone, so I felt encouraged to write something.

kikan, you're seriously trying to play the game on a mobility graphics/laptop with 1 GB RAM in total? Well, you weren't mentioning these little facts. (Mobility and laptop actually are important words.) My guess: you're notebook is re-starting as many others do because of heat protection/information overflow.

And next time, please mention such things from the start.

There's a huge difference between a Radeon and a Mobility Radeon. Gorath was right. The info you gave us was wrong.
