Is overpowered... I thought it'd be fun to try it and started a new game with dominate as bonus, I thought it'd make taking out heavies and such which are hard to reach easier. Turns out my vanguard barely needs to charge now... just enter a room, concentrate fire on the hardest enemy to strip its defences, then dominate it and then just sit and watch the game play itself and occasionally re-dominate. Insane NG+ feels extremely easy now.
I'll most probably switch to another power since it's just not fun for a vanguard. Maybe with an adept it's more appropriate.

There are many "overpowered" abilities in the game.

I don't use it on Shep, but I always take Morinth with me, on the playthroughs I have her, to the Collector base. It makes the whole Suicide Mission a joke, half the time the Collector Drone kills off most the enemies and you just have to take out the General controlled Collector.

It's a good ability to take for an Evil Adept. AKA Ardat Yakshi.

I always thought that move had it's uses. Never thought it would be overpowered though. I do know that Reave is definitely overpowered. In overpoweredness which is worse Reave or Dominate.

Most overpowered ability in the game.

It works very well for an engineer, even better on a sentinel since a sentinel has an ability for stripping every defense type in the game.

I think it's amazing, but I wouldn't go as far as to call it overpowered. It's similar to AI Hacking, that's all. Is AI Hacking overpowered when facing mechs? No.

Dominate is a fun skill...but it's hardly overpowered. Even the ability to one-shot husks is rather limited, since it seems that it's not possible to take down a group of husks with group dominance. No matter how close they were together, I only managed to take down one husk....which doesn't really change much.
Still, it's quite useful to take out a hostile defensive position....

I should note that I've only played on Nightmare, or whatever the highest difficulty is called in ME2 (I haven't played for a few weeks). That makes dominate useless for things like, for example, mass-killing husks.

It is a good idea.
I' m using it on my insanity engineer to great effect. Dominate, hacking and drone really sow chaos on the battlefield
That been said, I find that after the disabled collector ship I'm using it far less. With my regular tech and squad abilites more or less maxed out, I don't need it that much, except in a very sticky situation.

On a slightly unrelated note, everyone says that dominate insta-kills husks, but whenever I use my 'heavy' dominate which is maxed out, it just dominates them like any other enemy (they get a barrier, time limit, enemies attack them, etc). Does dominate work like that for anyone else?

It doesn't help at all against husks

If you feel like your cheating, and dont like it, switch powers. If you do like it, no problem.

I still prefer Reave to Dominate, but then I was never a fan of AI Hacking either, and it's really just AI Hacking for organics.

Don't forget you only fight three main missions against Geth and the other mechs aren't worth hacking (by the time you've stripped a heavy mech it's usually the last thing left alive). So saying "just AI Hacking for organics" is misleading, considering that easily over 90% of your enemies are organics. Try dominating pyros or heavies or krogan or collector assassins and see the game turn from insane to insanely easy. I'm thinking that's why some of the hardest enemies have no health but just lots of armour - so you can't dominate them.
