I've liked what I have heard and seen of the game so far. It seems to avoid many JRPG stereotypes.
For instance I have heard the main protagonist is 26 years old. It is an extreme rarity for a main protagonist in a JRPG to be past his teens. Secondly, it looks like the characters actually use guns. It always confused me how these futuristic looking JRPGs still always had characters using swords. It would make sense if they had a sword as a secondary weapon if they ran out of bullets or something, but if guns exist there is not reason not to use them.
Also, I heard the plot is humorous and dramatic without taking itself too seriously. That is a good thing as I hate the anime-esque melodrama prevalent in so many JRPGs.
I haven't played the game yet but I was thinking of giving it a chance. Has anyone who isn't a JRPG fanboy played it? If so, what were your impressions?
So apparently Resonance of Fate is pretty good.

The combat system looks pretty cool. Reminds me of the Matrix.

I played the demo, it isn't all that great. Mediocre at best, and that's being generous.

It is actually crazy good. The battle system is deep and entertaining, something FF13 didn't quite get right. The story so far (for me, only played a few hours) hasn't really taken shape, but it has had some funny moments. The characters are Vashyron age 26, Zephyr age 17, and Leanne age 21. So far the characters are pretty basic, but no real revelations have happened yet so, we will see.
Any arguments against the game are negated by the depth of the combat system. While initially difficult once you do the optional (yes that's right, optional) tutorials at the Arena and get some real fights under your belt, the game opens up. From where I'm standing, there's still things to figure out in the system and yet I'm having a lot of fun with it. Resonance Of Fate is a great choice for a JRPG fix.

Oh, sorry. I got it from the Japanese Marketplace several weeks (perhaps even a month or two) ago. It isn't up in Europe yet, dunno if it is in America or Canada.tony2077 wrote...

I didn't really like End of Eternity's (what the game is known as in Japan) gameplay. I can imagine some people might like it, but I found it to be rather gimmicky and boring. I can't tell you anything about the story, but since Tri-ace was also responsible for the horror that was Star Ocean IV I won't give them the benefit of the doubt.

however, demos almost never succeed in portraying how good(or bad) a game really is. I'm not disagreeing, just sayin'.

I'm waiting to finish some of the games I have piled up over the past few months and then I'll move on to RoF. Hopefully by then it'll have a nice price drop, my wallet doesn't like dropping 60+ on games.

Out of all the jrpg's released on the 360 this is the only one I like. It's fair to say that the game earns a 8ish rating. Be warned: The game can have a bit of grinding depending on how you play it. If you take your time with the game then you will enjoy Resonance of Fate very much.
*If you are one of those players that rushes through games then you won't like the game or find it too hard. Take your time and you can appreciate the little subtleties of the game.

I'll be picking it up once I can get it for >30 but I'm interested in this game, really only downside is lots of grinding.

The combat is very good (once you understood). But the tutorials are annoying (made me fall asleep) and the in-game graphics (outside battle) is like some PS2 game. I was disappointed. And you can't shift voice-over language inside the game. What a waste of a solid combat system.
