I played the game on Veteran the first time and have played on Insanity ever since. I can't play on anything lower... it's just too easy and it seems unfair to my enemies. Once you get used to fighting the most powerful enemies all of the time, fighting anything less is boring.

And on my Vanguard, I hate it when my enemies go flying when I charge. On Insanity every enemy has protection so I never have to worry about that happening; I charge in and then my Shotgun and fists take care of the rest.

As for being a badass. Which type of badass is more satisfying to be?

1. A 250 lb muscle bound jock consistently pounding a skinny geek?

Or

2. A skinny geek consistently owning the jock

For me it's #2. That's my I like playing insanity even as an adept (Which is a hell of a lot more powerful than I thought it would be when I first played it on that level)

I know most people enjoy a good challenge, but does it seem like Hardcore difficulty(also the insanity) levels of difficulty are less fun because as a player, you feel less powerful.  I know I enjoyed my first playthrough on Veteran a whole lot more because if felt like my guns and powers actually made a difference.

It all depends on the player. I think my first playthrough was on normal and my second on hardcore. Most of my other playthroughs have been on normal.

Once you've completed it on higher difficulties naturally it would make the lower difficulties seem easier I guess. I'll change the difficulty a few times through a game if I just want to get through certain sections quickly.

With that said, on higher difficulties the game feels a lot more like a squad / tactics shooter and found myself having to manage my team more regularly than lower difficulties. So did find the higher levels more fun from a general gameplay stance.

I have trouble playing the lower difficulties after playing on insanity. I still think they did insanity wrong though. I'd rather be facing more opponents that used more tactical maneuvers to flank you than just slapping shields on them and have them do more damage. Especially when there shields are better than mine and I work for a multibillion credit organization and they are random grunt #5.

I had the opposite reaction AFTER playing on HC and Insanity ... for spammer classes like an Engineer the game is too easy on Veteran -- You just spam drones and mix in some incenerate from time to time --- wash, rinse, repeat .. not much challenge or strategy required.

Too true. However, after playing Grunt's recruit mission, I feel that the Biotics needed to be upped in strength. Full Overload just doesn't damage shields nearly half as much as you'd expect on Insanity.

Basically, I HATE MECHS. :D

Hahahaha. I just played that part on Insanity today, and I swear I thought I was going to lose it in that last room.

Anyway, this is my first Insanity run, and I'm having fun so far. I also can't say I agree it turns the game into a shooter, I'm using the power wheel a lot and bringing Miranda to every mission now because she has Warp and Overload, making her useful against every type of defense. If anything I'm using powers more now than before. And that's with a soldier, I used a vanguard on Hardcore.

Honestly, I think the game's too easy on Normal. It's perfectly fine by me that there's a difficulty setting that doesn't pose a challenge for people who just want to see the story, but it shouldn't be the default setting. But then my favorite game last year was Demon's Souls, so, you know, I guess my perception of difficulty is skewed. I like a challenge. Other people like flow.

My first playthrough was veteran as suggested by the game if you have played part 1. After that, the rest of my playthroughs have been on Insanity. Once you experiance that level of challenge, the type that makes your adrenaline pump and every killshot makes you feel more alive, its a wonder why anybody would do it any other way. Forget hardcore. Grow a beard and go Insanity all the way. Its the new standard. Nuff said :police:

...

P.S. ME2 has a higher difficulty than Insanity. To unlock, simply start a new game on Insanity with a Vanguard. That $%@ is at a whole another level of beardom, but it's also the most fun

To continue my rant on Dominate from another thread, I just replayed Grunt's recruiting mission on a insane NG+ game. That mech was a piece of cake - just dominated the first tank krogan and he kept the mech busy all the time till I stripped its defences. My vanguard is getting lazy...

Seriously, I can't play anything else than insanity now. Charging around at <1/4 health when you know any wrong movie is death is just such a blast.

I'm really enjoying the challenge of insanity. I've only gotten really stuck on a couple parts so far that I can remember. but in the end Iearned so much more about the game from trying new powers, weapons, squad members I hardly used during my first play through on veteran.

Is anyone else still feel unsatisfied after finally beating a particular difficult part of the game after dying several times? (I had the hardest time on the garrus recruitment level) Yeah I finally beat the level but, what about the first 15 times that the computer ripped me a new one? I cant help but feel like I went 1 for 15, which is terrible in any other game or sport, but I get to move on.

Insanity is too easy.

Restarting the game with a level 30 char without all your upgrades is pretty good.

The game needs a harder difficulty level... or two.

Sentinel shielding is too overpowered and makes gameplay on insanity completely boring and devoid of any risk.

I find Hardcore's pretty handy to get you ready for your Insanity run, but Veteran's actually the most balanced and entertaining difficulty. There are some 'unprotected' enemies you can play God on with your powers, and there are protected ones you have to think about how to take down.

That's so true! Playing on insanity really gives you a fresh perspective  of the game, and a more clear understanding of the mechanics, weapons, squadmates and powers. After that, going on the lower difficulty levels you're like "Is this the same game??"
