Incidentally, Chris' original did mention using the forum's SEARCH function (although it's so badly broken, the best choice is adding a site: redirector to a Google or Yahoo search), so if you have done so and drawn a blank, say so and include the criteria that didn't work for you (and if your message ~~ PLEASE NOTE THIS ~~ IT DOESN't BELONG  IN THIS THREAD ~~ has already covered that, thank you for including it).  .

Hello Mass Effect 1 fans.

This forum is for fans and customers of Mass Effect 1, both for the PC version and the Xbox 360 version, to share help and assist each other with technical issues.

Please remember that official game support for Mass Effect 1 is shared by Electronic Arts and Microsoft.

If you have a Mass Effect 1 PC issue, official support can be found through EA Customer support here: http://support.ea.co...y=0&p_redirect=

If you have a Mass Effect 1 Xbox 360 issue, details on official support from Microsoft can be found here: http://masseffect.bi...ox360.html#int.

{ (Edited:  I'm referring DAO gamers here sometimes, also,  /s/ Gorath.) }

Please try to help one another with problems, but remember the best way to ensure accurate support is to contact the official support provided.  (Edited by G. here: When you want to pose a question for your fellow game players, especially for the PC Game version, these are the basics previously laid down.)

1.  It’s important to identify which product is experiencing the problem.

  a.   Is it the console version or the PC version?  (Edit: Most of this is strictly applicable to the PC version.)

  b. Media: physical disk or digital download (and which vendor)

2.  System Details

  a. Processor / Core count / Core Speed / Main RAM Amount

  b. Display Adapter / VRAM / Driver Version (just saying "latest drivers" doesn't help -- Edited: only ATI / nVIDIA cards are supported)

  c. Sound Adapter / Driver Version

  d. Operating System (& service pack if applicable)

  e. Direct X Version

3.  Problem Details

  a.  When it comes to problem details, think about the five basic questions: Who? What? When? Where?  Why? Okay, so “Who?” doesn’t really apply here, but the others do.

  b.  What?  What is the nature of the problem that you’re seeing?

  c.  When?  When does the problem occur? Every time you engage in a particular action or only after so many hours of play?

  d.  Where? Where does the problem occur? Is the problem localized to a particular planet or does it occur everywhere?

  e.  Why? As much as possible, can you isolate the problem to a specific set of steps?

If you follow these guidelines, and provide the requested information when posting, it will increase the likelihood that someone will be able to help you diagnose the problem and find a solution.

Please report issues, after checking these steps, in new threads.

P. S.  Please use every day business style punctuation and spelling.

Chris' original message (very slightly edited to eliminate ME-2 references), had been posted in the combined ME-1 and Me-2 forum that was all that there was for Tech at first, and was never copied to here, and never pinned on top.  It should have been, and eventually, this version was..

Because the pinned message from Victor describes an impractical way to report about problems running Dragon Age, I'm frequently pointing this thread out to DAO game owners for their guidance also  Since this didn't start out as a pinned advisory at first, bumps from time to time were used to keep it in view.

Also, a practical version of the System Requirements is needed.

Minimum System Requirements for Mass Effect on the PC
(Corrected from dumb, Pie in the Sky lies to the real thing)

Operating System:
Windows XP or Vista

Processor:
2.4+GHZ Intel or 2.0+GHZ AMD

Memory:
1 Gigabyte Ram (XP)
2 Gigabyte Ram (Vista)

Video Card:
NVIDIA GeForce 6 series (6800GT or better: 210, 7100, 7200, 7300, 7400, 7500, 7600 GS, 8200, 8300, 8400 GS, 8500, 9200, & 9300 are below minimum system requirements)
ATI Radeon X1650 XT (X1300, X1300 Pro, X1550, HD 2400, HD 3200, HD 3450, HD 3470, HD 4200, HD 4350, HD 4550, and HD 5450 are below minimum system requirements)

Hard Drive Space:
12 Gigabytes

Sound Card:
DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card and drivers

Victor went around making pinned messages to some forums, but he used a template that worked OK for console tech discussions, but omits a lot of data from what is required for PC version problem reports.  Later, he proposed a collection of unreadable HTML / XML code blocks for Dragon Age, none of which seems to have ever been harvested, making it useless.

You will notice that Intel video chips still fail.

While it's true that the archives here at Social are much less extensive than at the Legacy Forum site, but those older archives can't be searched through.  Your problem is older than NWN2 (four years now), and very well known.  There should be no reason at all to ask why a video card designed back in 2003 doesn't work in a 2009 game.  The game requirements are on the box.

(Admittedly, as is par for the course with Bioware and all of its subcontractors, the official system requirements are screwed up again, but not badly enough to make anyone think that a seven year old POS as bad as that thing is could ever run any game as good as this is.)

Hi! I have a problem. I have bought a few days ago Dragon Age Origins: Ultimate Edition and Mass Effect, both of them in digital version from the EA Store. When I install them and I try to launch them the game crash: when I launch DAO it says there is a configuration error, and when I launch Mass Effect it says there is a Mass Effect Configuration error (Mass Effect Configuration Utility). Can anyone help me please D:?

Firstly, this isnt a help thread, this is a thread telling you what info we need when you do post your problem.

Secondly, if its crashing on the config utility, then more than likely you havent installed the 1.02 patch. Download and install it. If you still have problems, then re-read the very first posting in this thread, and give us the details that are required.

People have problems reporting their hardware specs. For example, they paste the whole dxdiag report (redundant information), or, when posting only the system information part, manage to forget that video card information is also necessary.

That's why I came up with a different way of obtaining system specs:
1. Go to http://www.cpuid.com...ares/cpu-z.html
2. On the right hand side of the webpage, click a link to download the installer.
(direct link)
3. Install the application.
4. Run the application.
5. At the bottom of the window, click 'Validate'. A new window opens.
6. On the top of that window, make sure 'Publish online' is checked, then fill in your nickname, preferably e-mail (not required) and click 'Submit'.
7. Your default web browser will open a page with your hardware specs. Include the address of that page when reporting an issue (example: http://valid.canardp....php?id=1575418).

Now, while that page shows DirectX version, it does not provide video card driver info. That's why we will need another link.
1. Go to http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/
2. Click a link to download GPU-Z.
(direct link)
3. Run the application.
4. On the top of the window, switch to 'Validation' tab.
5. Fill in fields as you wish and click 'Submit.
6. You will see a validation ID at the bottom of the window. Either click the blue one and provide the web address, or simply provide the ID when reporting an issue (example: http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/hmsb9/ OR hmsb9).

It also provides general information about how powerful your video card is, so it's much better than trying to dig information about partially non-existent cards like Geforce GT145M.

System specs example:
http://valid.canardp....php?id=1575418
http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/hmsb9/

Primarliy, the specs we need can be obtained under the "System -> Summary" TAB in the configuration utility.

Yes.

But I've only seen an issue report with information taken from the config utility once (out of tens of reports).
