Legion or Liara T'soni would be the most likely candidates for betrayal, but my bet is on Miranda.

She's loyal to Cerberus, and I always got the feeling that the whole business with Dr. Wilson was just an elaborate frame to make Shepard more trusting of Cerberus.

The betrayer will always have something to gain from Shepards death. Who from his squad has the most to gain with Shepards death?

I'd say either Miranda,EDI, and perhaps Ashley/Kaidan. As for the aliens i doubt anyone would , because humans are far more stupid (and shortsighted/spiteful,etc) than them

Mitanda is an LI - no chance
EDI had too many chances to kill/ditch the crew - highly doubt it and what would you do anyway...walk to the reapers?
Asley/Kaidan is an LI - no chance

Wrex is too volatile.....if you face curing the genophage and don't/can't do it then I'd fully expect a betrayal.....maybe he still carries a secred grudge from Virmire lol.

But nah....he could be dead and for many he is so I doubt it.

The only character who cannot die prior to ME3 is Liara and she was sounding just like her mother when I went to see her but she's also an LI and a fan favorite so I doubt it.

My betrayal bets are on: Mordin(salarian STG), Samara(blindly following the code), Zaeed(he's a merc)

Actually, I see a betrayal as a very cliché trap that I hope that Bioware wont fall into (BG2 or NWN2 anyone?). However, IF there will be a betrayal I doubt it will come from any of the team members, especially if Shepard managed to get everybody out safely from the suicide mission.

So no, I really hope Bioware won't sell out to cheap tricks. But you never know...

Not necessarily death (and now I'm arguing paralel to my previous post) - it might be that a betrayer don't want to kill Shepard, but simply get him out of harm's way - ie, betray him for a greater good, even from Shepard's point of view.

I dont know how you guys treat your team in game but seems like alot of trust issues up in here lol.

Personally I dont think anyone on my team would really betray me on any of my play throughs. I love my squad and my sheps would give his life for his team mates as they would do the same for me.

Has to be non-LI, or else that will just be a gut-punch for alot of people

Also to all the people saying Miranda is loyal to Cerberus, if she is loyal (and possibly LI) and you take her to the final battle she basically tells TIM to **** off if you chose to blow up the base. So depending on your game she isn't as loyal as it seems

Don't forget though, Cerberus is hiding her sister. Wonderful leverage/blackmail material there....

Most Likely:

* Liara - For me something just isn't right with her. From historian to information dealer their seems to be a huge change in her character from ME1 to ME2. Also the fact that she is a "pure blood" leaves the door open for an Ardat - Yakshi storyline

...No it does not.

The Virmire survivor. Reasons:

-The one who survives Virmire automatically survives Mass Effect 2.

-Yes, Liara also survives both games, but she doesn't have her own agenda. She has a clear goal, one which will probably be fulfilled in the upcoming DLC.

-He or she has been with you from the beginning, so more time to become emotionally attached.

-You willingly chose him or her over the other human, making the Virmire survivor that more 'unlikely' to betray you because you not only preferred but also apparently trusted him or her.

-He or she is a possible Love Interest, thus even more emotional attachment for some of us.

-He or she has become the second human Spectre, as subtly indicated in Mass 2, which provides an interesting comparison to Saren once Shepard is considered a rogue Specte (we all know it will happen).

Thats true, I wouldn't want to it to be hard-written in. Only if it makes sense for the character and situation. An open confrontation, like Wrex on Virmire, is more likely for most of them.

If there is a betrayal I think it must be someone from ME1 who cant die in a story.

Anderson: while it wouldnt make any sense now for Anderson to betray Shepard you never know what comes up in ME3

Udina: situation where Udina has a chance to somehow improve humanity by betraying Shepard

Council: It would make most sense for them to imprison Shepard due to his actions in ME2 and sometimes when I hear Shepard talking about the Reapers he sounds abit too obsessed with it so maybe Shepard will do something big in ME3 and the council decides that they have had enough of Shepard ?

NWN2.. for all thats unholy why wouldnt they let you imprison, kill, kick out the betrayer.. i know it was a plot device but they could of used something else, the betrayer was so obvious it iwas painful

* Garrus - I've said it on here before, Shephard and Garrus are very similar, only Shephard is a more successful Garrus. I just think that Garrus could grow to become resentful and jealous of Shephard for enough for him to turn on him

No way. Garrus has nothing but respect (and more if you romanced him =P) for Shepard unless you treat him like utter ****. Honestly I don't see any of the core squadmates turning on Shepard unless they feel he/she isn't working in the best interests of the galaxy. By the end of ME2, it's pretty clear (at least to me) that everyone under Shepard's command has put aside any petty thoughts and are ready to work for the greater good. Even Jack gives Shepard a respectful nod in the end cut scene as he/she walks through the cargo bay.

If anyone turned on Shepard it'd just seem tacked on at this point, in my opinion. Then again, so were the choices Ashley, Kaidan, and Liara made in ME2. So who knows?

I agree. My team is loyal for a reason. Not to mention people mentioning Miranda, in my playthrough she quit Cerberus. She betrayed TIM to stay on your side, why would she be one of the most likely candidates?

i don't really see a party member betraying you. i can see udina doing it again, though.

one of these days, udina. one of these days...

but yeah, betrayal doesn't seem likely. not when you got everyone loyal, etc. plus shepard has CHARISMA!

s/he can talk his/her way out of any tense situation*

*provided you have enough renagon/paragade points

For anyone thinking our krogan, I'm inclined to think of them as potentially the MOST loyal. Wrex (provided he survives ME1) is able to become one of, if not the most, powerful krogan warlord and is working at united the various tribes to build their strength. Shepard's done more for Wrex than anyone else alive, and I have no doubt in my mind Wrex would have dropped everything to go with Shepard in ME2 if he didn't feel what he was doing was so important.

Grunt is loyal to Shepard, going so far as saying, "Shepard is my Battlemaster. He has no equal.". Shepard gave Grunt a purpose for living, and a clan to return to. For all intents and purposes, Shepard gave Grunt a life.
