Is there anyone here who is into running, particularly long distance running?  I'm mostly into weight-lifting, martial arts and sword fighting but I have been putting more of an emphasis on endurance training recently.

I signed up for the Louisville Triple Crown recently which consists of three races.  A 5K run(3.1 miles), a 10 K run(6.2 miles) and a 10 mile run.

I have completed the first two runs and only the 10 mile remains.  Also, I intend to register for the Louisville half-marathon(13.1 miles) which takes place on the 23rd of this month.

My time on the 5K was 22:18(It was a bad day where I only had an hour of sleep.  Last year I ran one in 20:58)

My time on the 10K was 43:13

My question is should I run at the same pace for the 10 miler as I did in the other races?  I felt exhausted by the end of the 10 K so I'm thinking that perhaps I should pace myself a little slower since it's longer distance.  Also, I have heard people say that running while leaning forward a bit makes things a bit easier.  I can't tell one way or the other but perhaps I would notice in a long distance race.

I want to at least be able to finish before an hour and twenty minutes.

Also, I should add that a good portion of this race is uphill.  Is there any kind of running style I should stick with when running uphill?

In the army we were trained to semi-crouch whilst moving uphill and use long strides. This was for two reasons. We moved up faster and we had less chance of being spotted and getting our heads blown off...perhaps you could adapt that?

I never really do long distance running but from the army you had to either be driven, cling onto a vehicle roof or run. Good Luck

Thanks, I've heard others suggest the semi-crouching technique. I have two more days before the race and I will need at least one day to rest completely before the race takes place. Today is my last day of training then, I think I'll practice some incline running on the treadmill.

Perhaps some supplements would help. Try creatine.

I did add to that sentence that we were told to do that in the army right. I think hills are alot more dangerous in warzones than in areas without war but thats just me...
