Please don’t just list a name. Tell me *why* you think one villain is better than another.

Personally, I like BioWare stories, but find its villains consistently lacking.

I have to put my vote in for Malak. And that's purely becuase the relationship between him and Revan. That added such a great element to the story. Whether they were besties or lovers, there's history there that made that last fight a very emotional experience for me.

As much as I love Loghain as a character, it would have to be Malak for me. As Mel_Redux said he became something so much more than a 'villain' when the twist is revealed and the connection between Revan and him is brilliantly written.

Edit: Plus he is easily the coolest looking guy of the bunch and his voice is perfection... god i miss KotOR.

Another vote for Malak - a great villain and (for me at least) one of the best ever plots in any computer RPG.  And one I felt emotionally invested in, which is what makes Malak such a brilliant nemesis.

There was a point in KOTOR where you could just completely flip sides too.... play the whole thing as a gooodie-goodie, but then that something happens where you can completely flip and go darkside. I can't remember how, its been years....isn't it after a conversation with Malak? Anyone remember?

I know they are not in the list but :

Jon Irenicus and his sister Bodhi.

Why ?

Because they fight for revenge and survival but also because they are complex individuals.

And also because Irenicus is a truly monstrous ham.

What no sephiroth? lol.

Since iv never played Kotor id say Saren. Loghains a good guy if you read the books and in this game hes.... I dont know what to think, merely caught up in politics and simply refuses to give the Orlesians anything. The Architect I simply dont know enough about, hes working for the common good, but damn, the cost is rather ludicrous.

So Saren for me, he wants to exterminate all organic life and does it with a little bit of style.

I'm surprised to see so many Malak votes. His relationship with Revan was interesting but he was more like a caricature of of a comic book villain himself, evil cackle and all.

Personally, although it's not technically a Bioware villain, I loved Kreia from Kotor2. Flemeth reminded me a lot of her, so she'd probably get my vote out of the DA cast.

I found Malak a bit unoriginal, to be honest. (I love KotOR, btw...but he's not exactly the most complex villain). (Mel - you can flip to darkside after you visit the temple on the last island and confront Bastila. It means siding with her against Jolee and that annoying cat woman. I had no problem killing her but Jolee is one of my two favourite characters in that game and I had to force myself to do it to see the darkside ending. Similarly, you can play darkside all the way through, but if you side with Jolee against Bastila, you get an instant lightside boost. It's all a bit artificial, really).
Sarevok was awesome but again, a bit one dimensional, at least in the original BG.
Irenicus, though, was awesome. Monstrous ham though he was, he was fantastic. He was interesting enough that he almost had me sympathising with him, but still managed to be quite despicable (Bodhi, on the other hand, I just hated. Killing her was satisfying, if only to silence her rambling speeches).
Loghain is a fantastic character but too sympathetic, to me personally, to be a true villain. He's an antagonist, but I don't really see him as the bad guy. That's the archdemon, after all.
Saren is in a similar position. I guess archdemons and reapers are kind of hard to relate to, so a more human(oid) character is needed to fill the antagonist role so that we can relate to him. I find Saren less sympathetic than Loghain but ultimately, he does what he does because he thinks there's no alternative. He's wrong about that, at least in the first game, but you can at least make him see that at the end.

I must jump in and say Irenicus as well. I loved hating his guts. Definitely the villian that pissed me off the most, and really felt like a villian in every way.

As am I! In fact, this is one of the rare times where I've seen people post something positive about Malak.

I thought about including them, but whenever I have then tend to sweep the votes.

Well, the Architect is one of my favorite BW characters, but from the book not Awakening, he sucked in Awakening. However, he is not the best villian.

Out of the four listed, I would also say Malak. Why? Saren isn't sure of himself when you charm/intimidate him, Loghain is just paranoid and doesn't seem inteligent, and the Architect doesn't have that "big antagonist" feel to him in Awakening even though he had so much potential from the Calling.

Malak has a connection to the "hero" and has embraced his villiany nature. However, he was still a pretty weak character and Darth Revan pregame sounded like he was a better villian.

I would actually say from what I've played from KotOR to DA:OA, Master Li may actually be the best villian. Connection to hero, very inteligent, embraced and understands his nature, and great at manipulating. Then again, he wasn't that unique. Haven't played BG 1 or 2.

Also, I'll throw in my vote for Sephiroth as well, good hero of the people becoming the doom of the world and accepting it. I'll also vote for Morgoth.

Well, heck, Malak was an entertaining villain and a good antagonist for Revan, but let's face it, the man oozed archetypal villainy and Star Wars tropes and wasn't particularly dynamic or complex.

I likewise liked Saren and Loghain and the Architect, but both of them are rather sympathetic and, although the primary antagonists, not the true villains of the game.

I know Kreia was from KotOR II and Obsidian, but tbh I'd probably have to say her.

Saren was a good tragic character.

Malak. Turned on Revan when he saw the oppurtunity. Was an idiot, but a brutal and fierce idiot. Looked awesome. Had a cool voice. The man sucked the force out of jedi to strengthen him. Good, noble, jedi. You can't get more evil than that man.

I'm back. My opinion...

1) Malak -- because of personal history with Revan

2) Saren -- cool turian, but couldn't think for himself

3) Loghain -- a hero, even though paranoid, power-hungry

4) Architect -- his intentions sound good but he was sort of unclear as far as whether he was "evil" or not

Again, just an opinion :)

Of those 4, Loghain hands down.

The epitomy of the anti-hero. Although I feel that we really don't get a chance to meet the Architect outside of 2-3 cut scenes. He isn't really a "villain" either.

Hehe my bad ;)

Loghain then, because he is a villain that is not a villain : a good man with a cold heart, alot of psychological issues, a tenacious hate for Orlais in particular and all those with power in general and is ready to sell his soul for what he thinks is the greater good.
